Single file lines!

Voat is too broke to get real servers so we must take turns. We must act civilized and share in an orderly fashion or else it just ends up looking like a Black Friday nightmare around here and no one wants that.

So pick your time slot and stick to it, no cheating. Everyone has a 30 second window to Voat. Go.

Adding the option to open links in a new window would reduce your server load.

On my phone, from the homepage, I click a link, then I click back to go back to voat, voat homepage will not load b/c the server is over loaded. But why am I loading the page again??

Ironically, this is already implemented. Logging into my OLD voat account, where there WAS an option in settings to open links in a new window (and of course I selected that), I click a link and it opens in a new tab, then I click back and it just closes the tab and takes me to the previous one, voat's homepage, without reloading it and putting load on your servers.

We're all sick and tired of the big California (mostly San Fran) based tech companies exerting their heavy hand of anti-American, radical-leftist facism censorship over social media platforms. Facebook, YouTube/Google, Twitter, Reddit, Apple AppStore/iTunes - it's now completely obvious that any mega corporate entity cannot be trusted.

If We The People want platforms that uphold the American ideals of Liberty then is looking like the platform will need to be democratized in some manner in respect to support, etc. As again, the core of nearly all of the modern tech companies that dominate the Internet have not shown themselves to be evil to their cores.

Facebook and Google specifically were probably originated as "special projects" with nefarious social control as the long term intentions from the get go.

The largest problem for a site like Voat will be handling scale - if it attracts the base of users that were just banned from Reddit.

May I suggest an approach of transparency? Post the monthly operating cost, get setup with donate buttons and show monthly income from donations. That way we the users can be aware of the reality of what is involved in keeping a site as a going concern.

It's one thing to operate a hobbyist site for a small audience, but quite another to be able to scale and operate for the size of user base that Reddit itself is capable of handling.

Another matter worth public discussion would be a forum for architecture discussion of the site itself for us tech heads that want to participate in that side of things. In one thing per architecture, it's clear that it will need to be portable to deploy at any of the commercial hosting sites (and not joined at the hip in using APIs that bind it to one hosting provider). For instance, who in this day and age would trust Amazon? Digital Ocean may be the better (freedom) choice of the top 4 hosting providers right now, but even that could change. So needs to be possible to move a site at the drop of a hat.

Obviously it shouldn't happen on every page but if you put a link in the top left corner of every page to donate cpu time the option would always be visible and I think you'll find that giving literally everyone the ability to donate without jumping through all the hoops to get their hands on some cyrptocurrency will have a hell of a lot of us leaving the mining page open in a new tab while we browse voat and probably the rest of the internet too.

Thanks for everything you've done for us too. This site is one of the last bastions of free speech in the entire world and it's genuinely made me a better person because of it and I know I'm not the only one that's been improved by voat either. It's much easier to just track users search history, purchase history, and physical presence. That's why Google, Amazon, Facebook, Reddit, and all the similar major companies have a freeflow of government/corporate money and assistance. It's also why anytime they're questioned, there's a blind eye turned to any of their transgressions or a slap on the wrist at best. That money is pretty easy to track if you've been following anyone with a conspiratorial mind over the last few years. Hell, I remember being MUCH younger and always wondered why I kept seeing the founders of Google hanging out with the leaders of world governments; even when Google was much more in its infancy. It always struck me as strange.

Meanwhile, we have a site here that crashes hard every time there's an influx of traffic, where many people lurk and rarely contribute, and a handful of people keeping it running. Blackops money is rather endless. The real people who hold the truth on the internet have sites that look like they haven't been updated since 1998. Why? There's no money in it. Most of us don't have the time to contribute properly; we all have real careers and jobs and families to tend to. We just come here to vent and search for truth in a sea of controlled lies. I'm not saying for certain that Voat isn't controlled, but it sure as hell doesn't behave like the rest of the clearly controlled information distribution sites.

You make some good points, but I think civility isn't antithetical to censorship. When people act civil, they tend to discuss ideas, and not racebait, stereotype women and excessively use expletives.

I enjoy a good dive bar here and there, but it depends on who hang out there. If a bunch of misogynistic men are there to be rude to me, I won't be sure to be back. I noticed recently that voat was one of the sites that will be censored or hidden from Google search results.

So here are some thoughts about voat's format

1) I don't like the fact that voat's format is identical to Reddit, primarily because I despise everything about Reddit. Reddit is a site for sharing cat pics, sexually repressed women who decide to upload their naked pics for everyone to judge, men who use reddit to look at porn, for people with severe psychological problems to share their unending tales of woes for meaningless upvotes, and for PR agencies to keep spreading their propaganda and censor anyone who questions them as "conspiracy theorists" and for the US govt to keep track of everyone's personal information. Reddit is a clear propaganda site funded by special interest groups, and by copying reddit's format, voat looks as if it is a site that caters to bitter Red Pill men who only like to curse and use profanity and make offensive statements about race relations instead of being a "free speech" alternative to Reddit.

2) I think Voat could upgrade its design and look. I also think there should be some standard major forums where there is automatic moderation only, and people can choose to create their own forums, but that moderation should only be left to VOAT employees only and not the public at large, as that creates an atmosphere for PR agencies to send their paid forum posters to take over all the moderation positions.

3) I also think that each user should only be allowed to upvote or downvote using a unique IP address that doesn't allow VPN bypassing of IP addresses and that anyone using a VPN isn't allowed to vote.

4) To be able to follow information and threads seamlessly, I think there should be a title to the thread by username and a preview of comments by username

5) voat's business model: should be a subscription model that charges people $2/ month and via subscription includes exclusive content (similar to Netflix) and deals from ecommerce and retail companies so veers away from the Reddit model that caters to corporations advertising and censoring content through PR agencies, but instead is more similar to a media network that creates programmes and original content and allows users to have access to special deals that are geolocation specific (restaurants etc) or from major ecommerce sites that everyone uses.

6) Civility: users who are rude and uses profanity should automatically be banned for a set period 2 weeks etc, so that it voat doesn't become a wasteland of bitter, angry men. lol

voat could become a haven for intellectuals, but the current atmosphere of voat is that it is a reddit clone.

Ever spent time on the chans? In all seriousness, most people here are civil, we just hide behind offensive words and memes. It's a defense mechanism. Weak minded people are easily offended by words; this is to weed them out. They can't handle the truth of reality. Most people here at some point have tried civility with the average joe; it ends with immature meanderings, circular arguments, and people sticking their fingers in their ears refusing to hear the truth. Why bother with civility when you can easily and instantly filter out those type of people?

I've spent way too much of my time on the internet, dawning back to the early days. The places that are truly free of regulation are all like this. Truly free speech is challenging. It's engaging. It tugs at your emotions. It elicits responses that aren't usually positive. The hostility and language separates the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.

When we're speaking to a child, do we sugarcoat things a little so it's easier to swallow? It's the same principle. With truly extreme freedom, you get truly extreme views. Take the time to distill what is really being said and understand. Purposefully expose yourself to things that offend your senses. You might find some people who are the scum of the earth. What's even scarier to most though, is that you might find some people who hold "wrongthink" views could actually be right, and might be onto something. That's what (((they're))) afraid of; that's why the censorship is getting more and more extreme across the internet. The last bastions of truly free speech on the planet will be the most offensive to the senses. Embrace it, or go back to "free speech lite" anywhere else on the internet.

Whatever label is easier to dismiss instead of actually realizing that diversity isn't the answer to all of your problems.

Do you want to add civility and depth to the conversation? Stick around and BE part of that change. You might finally understand why people behave like they do here. It probably also drives them insane that the Donald Trump sub is still the one of the most active large subs on the site. We are at the exact same crossroad. We are at the point were more and more people are learning about what's happening. Steemit is a good platform, I think until we find a system that is decentralized this is just a game of whack-a-mole really though in the long run. Voats defences are good better than most others but where there is a will to cause disruption there is a way.

My only advice to you is to think for yourself around here many accounts have been bought and sold over the years so try to take users on face value sometimes and dont look at acount age or points. The $hills here are different than what you are used to. I have noticed two groups 1. Advanced higly effecient merchants of subversion and consensus cracking 2. JDIF & shariablue newhires who have not got a hope in achieving anything but get sent here for practice

A standard post office box, or really any mailing address, and a US dollar money order sent in the mail - old tech that works, cashable by almost any bank. Certified checks drawn on major banks work almost as well.

Setting up a bank account can offer direct wire transfer as a third method, but the money order is almost impossible to interrupt.

Good old bullion (silver or gold) is also acceptable for tax free mailing in many locations - but you have to confirm the local rules first. Again, while the price fluctuates, it has the advantage of being convertible to cash nearly everywhere.

The powers that be have no idea how dangerous it is to force sites like Voat to operate in the cash economy. Once the technique is learned it becomes very apparent that banks are no longer needed for free commerce.

ceddit/snew is the only project of this sort I’m involved in.

I’m frequently mistaken as the creator of unreddit unedditreddit (this is what I think you’re talking about) and others.

My project is focused entirely on mod removals and is a registered Reddit client that follows all their requirements.

Others restore user deleted content as well in violation of Reddit policy and imo a slightly aggressive act against those who delete their own content.

Unedditreddit took some clear inspiration from snew and sprung up at a time when I was neglecting snew (ssl errors).
