You guys know the Voat drill when Reddit bans something:
Single file lines!
Voat is too broke to get real servers so we must take turns. We must act civilized and share in an orderly fashion or else it just ends up looking like a Black Friday nightmare around here and no one wants that.
So pick your time slot and stick to it, no cheating. Everyone has a 30 second window to Voat. Go.
Sorry about the downtime and slow responses, it's the best we have in Free Speechland at the moment.
Edit:
I hate receiving donations for a few reasons but here is Voat's BTC address if you feel called to donate: 3NZvuAk3Csf1UP1KCmzN9dhiXTwvhTgr9k. Please only donate if you have the means.

I noticed recently that voat was one of the sites that will be censored or hidden from Google search results.
So here are some thoughts about voat's format
1) I don't like the fact that voat's format is identical to Reddit, primarily because I despise everything about Reddit. Reddit is a site for sharing cat pics, sexually repressed women who decide to upload their naked pics for everyone to judge, men who use reddit to look at porn, for people with severe psychological problems to share their unending tales of woes for meaningless upvotes, and for PR agencies to keep spreading their propaganda and censor anyone who questions them as "conspiracy theorists" and for the US govt to keep track of everyone's personal information. Reddit is a clear propaganda site funded by special interest groups, and by copying reddit's format, voat looks as if it is a site that caters to bitter Red Pill men who only like to curse and use profanity and make offensive statements about race relations instead of being a "free speech" alternative to Reddit.
2) I think Voat could upgrade its design and look. I also think there should be some standard major forums where there is automatic moderation only, and people can choose to create their own forums, but that moderation should only be left to VOAT employees only and not the public at large, as that creates an atmosphere for PR agencies to send their paid forum posters to take over all the moderation positions.
3) I also think that each user should only be allowed to upvote or downvote using a unique IP address that doesn't allow VPN bypassing of IP addresses and that anyone using a VPN isn't allowed to vote.
4) To be able to follow information and threads seamlessly, I think there should be a title to the thread by username and a preview of comments by username
5) voat's business model: should be a subscription model that charges people $2/ month and via subscription includes exclusive content (similar to Netflix) and deals from ecommerce and retail companies so veers away from the Reddit model that caters to corporations advertising and censoring content through PR agencies, but instead is more similar to a media network that creates programmes and original content and allows users to have access to special deals that are geolocation specific (restaurants etc) or from major ecommerce sites that everyone uses.
6) Civility: users who are rude and uses profanity should automatically be banned for a set period 2 weeks etc, so that it voat doesn't become a wasteland of bitter, angry men. lol
voat could become a haven for intellectuals, but the current atmosphere of voat is that it is a reddit clone.
So voat, what are you? Who is your demographic?

See, you're getting how to speak to people around here already! Try less civility next time!
Ever spent time on the chans? In all seriousness, most people here are civil, we just hide behind offensive words and memes. It's a defense mechanism. Weak minded people are easily offended by words; this is to weed them out. They can't handle the truth of reality. Most people here at some point have tried civility with the average joe; it ends with immature meanderings, circular arguments, and people sticking their fingers in their ears refusing to hear the truth. Why bother with civility when you can easily and instantly filter out those type of people?
I've spent way too much of my time on the internet, dawning back to the early days. The places that are truly free of regulation are all like this. Truly free speech is challenging. It's engaging. It tugs at your emotions. It elicits responses that aren't usually positive. The hostility and language separates the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.
When we're speaking to a child, do we sugarcoat things a little so it's easier to swallow? It's the same principle. With truly extreme freedom, you get truly extreme views. Take the time to distill what is really being said and understand. Purposefully expose yourself to things that offend your senses. You might find some people who are the scum of the earth. What's even scarier to most though, is that you might find some people who hold "wrongthink" views could actually be right, and might be onto something. That's what (((they're))) afraid of; that's why the censorship is getting more and more extreme across the internet. The last bastions of truly free speech on the planet will be the most offensive to the senses. Embrace it, or go back to "free speech lite" anywhere else on the internet.
If you can handle it, welcome.

This site would attract more people if civility were part of the culture. Most women are going to look at this site and dismiss it due to the promotion of incels and race baiting. Women make up 50% of the population, so this site will be losing nearly half or over half of the population due to a lack of civility.
Voat could either be a dive bar full of cheap rhetoric catering to incels and men only.
or Voat could be a club like the Oxford Union that caters to all the innovative thinkers in our generation which is a mix of male and female.
When you cut out the fat, you get the meat. So far, I only see incels here spreading their hostility and insecurity about seeming "gay" and using race baiting "nigger" to offend without engaging in any substantive dialogue.

This site doesn't want to attract a general audience.
So, bury your head in the sand when the going gets tough? Equal rights deserve equal treatment across the board. Want to be spoonfed the truth? Then you'll get spoonfed by people who want to give you their version of the truth, which always has an agenda.
That's nice and cozy. What about the ones who have to hunt, kill, and trim the animal? What about the ones who have to breed the animals, house the animals, clean up their piss and shit? It's stinky, messy, and undignified job. Welcome to Voat.
This is why the "STEM is a boys club" feminist mentality is complete and utter bullshit. Plenty of men tried to get women interested in those things. Plenty of women went, "eww, dorky" and did other things. Men and women have fundamentally different priorities and interests in life. Understanding that and acknowledging that is important. Does that mean they can't be involved in typically men's careers and interests. No, but when you've shunned that sort of thing for 30-50 years (whether it was cultural or not), expect some hazing, resistance, and a harder barrier of entry. Now, we see so many people trying to "fight this injustice" that grossly unqualified people are put in positions simply for a gender or diversity hire. When groups call this shit out and say, "told ya so", we're just lumped into racists/incels/nazis/you name it. Whatever label is easier to dismiss instead of actually realizing that diversity isn't the answer to all of your problems.
Does this place behave like a big 'ol boys club? You're goddamn right it does. Why? How many females have you met that like to discuss the shit that gets discussed on Voat? Not many. Do you want to add civility and depth to the conversation? Stick around and BE part of that change. You might finally understand why people behave like they do here. You've used the word 'incel' here a couple times. That's another one of those words like 'nazi' or 'racist' or 'alt-right' that's really just a label that attempts to group together people who don't think like the rest of the world. You might be surprised how many people here, underneath it all, have families and are decent working human beings like the rest of the world.
You will see lots of shitposting. You will see plenty of acting out. You will see plenty of name calling. Why? Most of us here have already been all over the normal, regulated parts of the internet. We've tried civility. We've tried tact. We've tried respect. All that ever gets us is blacklisting for wrongthink and attacks from people who claim to be superior who think they've already got everything figured out. Then new folks come here and try to "fix it up".....so it can eventually become a corporate owned shithole where you can only say certain things or else the sponsors will have to pull their money, so censorship becomes the only option.
Ever eaten at a really amazing hole in the wall restaurant? Did it ever eventually shut down due to not enough people knowing about it? Did you ever wish that "if only more people supported it", that it might still be around today and you'd still be able to eat there? Ever had one of those places actually make it and move into a newer, bigger, better building? Was the food as good as it once was when it was a hole in the wall? It's the same principle, and the slippery slope we get when anything special and unique grows in popularity.

more like, how many women have something intelligent to bring to a conversation? sadly, not many at all.
