There are lots of ways to monitor voat. Have you checked out uptimerobot.com? You will receive an email when the site doesn't load for them. I use this to monitor our exchange servers and a few other things. It's never been a false alarm and any time it goes off its been accurate. Shits not loading. Lol.

You can also use tools like automate control by connect wise (I'm sure there are better tools) for monitoring. When the disk space gets to a threshold, you will be notified. It also has an agent for Linux. That kind of thing. Lots of things that can be done, but I hear you loud and clear when you have got no time to improve upon it...

Dear @puttitout and @Atko i am a refugee from reddit. As a right wing conservative who has seen the intolerance of political opponents i fear this same issue is occuring with voat. The site's CCP system is flawed in that I am constantly punished by other users who simply disagree with my opinion, who most of the time will simply downvoat me and move on without any rational reason. This severely hurts my ability to participate in voat as i can no longer create posts that i feel generate good discussion. I am not being inflammatory in my language, because i oppose racism and i dont think jewish people are evil; my opinion gets crushed under the majority. I have no ability to combat this because i cant downvoat until i have 100 ccp and even then i must maintain that, making it so my opinion can never be heard. The minority opinion is essientially extinguished from the site and voat's community is just as intolerate as that of reddit's, just in the other direction. I feel that it is the best intrests of people like me and voats credibility as a website if there is some sort of reform to voat's comment system. Some sort of protection for people that find themselves being overwhelmed and suppressed by a radical majority would be much appreciated as i wish to continue to use this site. At this point, it would be better if just created a new account in order to participate than to try and earn back my lost points (I just created this one to put this out there and not get further downvoated) and that isn't right. The CCP system needs to be changed or removed.

@puttitout - not sure if you will see this but will put it out there. It is obvious that the admin / business / management of Voat takes a heavy toll on you. I see it clearly since I have very similar issues in my life. You are a coder and do great things when left alone enough to focus on it. Same for me (other areas, not coding).

The real key man is you have to really figure out how to offload those things that wear you out and distract from what you are good at.

The problem is that figuring out that part is similar to admin / management etc. And it sucks and is not fun and takes its toll. Speaking again from personal experience.

I have had some success with offloading. But it does cost me to get it setup. But if it works, it frees me to go back to what I love and am good at.

I know you have made efforts in those areas specifically with the subverse rules update and janitor level mods which is good, but obviously not enough.

What I would do if I were you is make a spreadsheet of every "task" that you hate doing or is hard for you to do. Just list out every single thing you wish you didn't have to do. Then work in the 2nd column which is how you could possibly offload it. If you haven't done this already, you may be surprised that some things could actually easily be offloaded once you take the time to really think about it and come up with an offload plan.

Taking it a step further, the solution to offloading could be seemingly impossible. Find a person to do X. Or raise X funds. Those become part of a secondary list. How to find people or raise funds?

Just pick a problem at a time and find a way to offload it. Based on my observation you are in firefighter mode and when you get some time, you try to upgrade / tweak / revamp the site. But those daily fires (SGIS, DDOS etc) just take such a heavy toll you end up with not even enough time for the good stuff, leaving Voat an unwelcome burden.

Putts Please indulge me, Q suggested that voat was shut down because we were "over the target". Is it possible for (((someone))) to fill disk space? Possibly by forcing voat to create log files or something similar? Qs been saying a lot of crazy things and you're in a unique position to add (or subtract) authenticity from one of them.

Because of you considerable efforts, goats had become accustomed to a high level of reliability for the website. That is quite an achievement. It shakes trust though, when that isn't sustained. However, we have been able to see how resilient Voat is and the community helped pull itself back together again.

Every AM and PM I check the site manually, I’ve done this every day for nearly 4 years (where is my cookie?), but I didn’t do this for an entire week (perhaps a week and a half).

I have been fairly burnt out lately (code related) and a bit down about Voat in general (I will perhaps write a post about this later), which is why I am not very visible lately. I've recently started pursuing further education and have dedicated myself to reading more.

It's perfectly understandable you can't be on the ball 24/7/365. And Murphy's Law takes care of the rest.

But the real lesson here should be that Voat has grown into something that is getting too big to be a one-admin operation. Too many people are affected by a failure like this. People to whom Voat has great value and is nearly irreplaceable.

It's difficult to trust others with something you've built, much less strangers on the internet... and especially with the nature of this website. Still, you should really make an effort to build a small team you can ease into incrementally trusting with access to things. So that they can be there to deal with these issues when you cannot. And just share the workload of maintenance and development. Especially if you think you might be even busier with other things in the future, which it does sound like.

There's the Putt we know. Thanks for everything, and sorry we get a little crazy without you. I'm glad you got a break to be with your mom. Family's important.

I think it was much worse than the downtime was when you came back and still left us in the dark. It makes one question why.

I'm more saddened that Voat can lead to your significant psychological depletion and a necessary vocational retreat.

Voat is great and you have an opportunity to build something novel, but don;t neglect your own values. Our modern western world strives work working constantly to produce, and that can be a result. If you prefer a reasonable work-life balance, don't let those social pressure weigh you down. They are not the lifestyle you wish, therefore they are wrong - regardless of what users of investors say. You should live for you. The user base will accept this bumps long the ride. Your genuineness is drastically more important than the server result.

I trust Voat more know that the servers fell apart knowing you were human, rather than some isolated PR statement. You took a small vacation, I full respect that. Fuck any negative rebukes you receive - they are selfish. You cannot be expected to burn yourself out and not allow a personal recharge. The people who chastise you otherwise have no concept of burning themselves out and are ignorant. Do not value their opinion as much as you feel obligated to.

You found a new problem and now you dealt with it. That is it. Anything beyond that has no concept of a job like yours.

I hope your break could be as relaxing as you hoped and if not I encourage you to take more time off. If you reject your sense of personal recovery you are accepting living a life of social slavery. Since then we've acted out because first off we truly care about you guys and this site.
