Not at Voat apparently.
The theories are all over the place, like a blind man throwing darts, and upon some reflection I can see why. I have not been very visible lately and Voat has had some down time recently that raised the Voat Uncertainty Index (VUI) past 52 week highs. With the recent Facebook F8 conference and their announced plans to fully control and rate publishers while limiting content visibility in the name of making news more “trustworthy” (via AI based technology), places like Voat are increasingly more sought after. I often forget how much Voat means to you all and how much trust you've put into @Atko and I over the years.
About the recent downtime
I finally have a few minutes to explain what happened. This will not be an exciting tale but here is how this all went down. Since the port we’ve lost a few management tools that have monitored Voat and notified us if it was being bad, so take this into consideration.
Every AM and PM I check the site manually, I’ve done this every day for nearly 4 years (where is my cookie?), but I didn’t do this for an entire week (perhaps a week and a half). I went completely dark, turned off all notifications on my phone and didn’t even touch a computer and it was everything that I thought it could be. I did this because my mother was in town and I haven’t spent much time with her over the last few years. I decided to 100% disconnect from the virtual world in order that I could be fully present with her. She is an incredible person and life is short.
But then… like a perfect storm, the voat webserver ran out of disk space on the primary drive. This is what caused the downtime. It’s almost laughable (because it’s not the first time something this junior (can I say noob) has happened here at the High-Tech Capital of Free Speech).
Thank God superman @Atko was in between fixing catastrophic world events to fly over and fix Voat. He used his x-ray vision and nerves of steel to lift away the huge weight of unneeded log files in order to allow the webserver to breathe again (I'll never be a writer). I’m so glad Europe has a superman too.
TL;DR: Problem happened and @Atko fixed it. Send him praise.
While the decision to go dark was a huge plus for my family life, it was a choice that has caused a lot of distrust, uncertainty, and concern within the Voat community.
About me
I have been fairly burnt out lately (code related) and a bit down about Voat in general (I will perhaps write a post about this later), which is why I am not very visible lately. I've recently started pursuing further education and have dedicated myself to reading more.
I have been lurking though (and watching everyone like Big Brother /s).
I’m sorry about how things appeared, about not communicating earlier, and about the concern it caused. I'll also apologize for being short with a few people that were good to Voat over the years - that isn't the kind of person I want to be.

How was my comment a pretention to control something ?
You sure your IQ is high enough to understand simple things that are written in plain english ?

This is Voat. So, probably not.

Voat, where simpletons and tradesmen are smarter than the average basement dwelling geek.

On Saturday, I was informed that gravity didn't exist and that it was actually magnetism - and Einstein was stupid.
I tried to explain to them that if such were true, someone sure as fuck would have emailed me or called me on the phone. I'm kinda well known in a few academic circles - someone is going to let me know if gravity is fake.
They watched a YouTube video. They're now experts!

Of course magnetism is behind it, everything on earth contains traces of iron, the more there is, the heavier it feels.
But it's not about weight, weight is a social construct that punishes dense people. What you perceive as "weight" is the magnetic pull force that earths has on a given object/body in relation to its iron content.
Why do you think penguins don't fly ? The pull force at the south pole is too much for anything to fly over it.
Trust me, I'm an internet metallurgist !

I'm not going to even entertain that with rebuke. I know damned well that you know better.
On the other hand, the other poster was pretty earnest in their belief. All because they watched a YouTube video and became convinced.
I'm not saying this to stroke my ego. My ego is already too big. I'm 100% certain that if gravity were proven to actually be magnetism, someone (probably quite a few people) are going to tell me by email, text, and telephone. On the list of people to hear about it first, I'll be in the top 1,000,000, guaranteed. Somebody is going to let me know. If you could even remotely discredit GR, you're getting a Nobel Prize.

Sometimes I just entertain myself by trying to think stupid thoughts like that, it requires some effort honestly.

I'm fond of reading and citing scholarly works about people who believe in kooky theories, like conspiracy theories and things like that. There's a whole lot to type about it, but it works out that the vast majority of them are mentally ill, marginalized, impoverished, poorly educated, have low intelligence, and lie at the extremes for their political views. There are some intelligent people who believe them, but they believe things that are outside of their domain of expertise and suffer from the various other mentioned traits.
Believing things without substantive evidence is not smart. If someone says something like 'connect the dots' then they can be safely ignored or mocked. Things also need to be falsifiable for them to be believed. The vast conspiracy of the deep state shadow government that is can't be proven to exist because they control the message is a fucking stupid thing to believe in. No, they aren't seeing indicators that everyone else is too stupid to see, they're mentally ill and delusional.
This, of course, pisses them off when I tell them. Pointing out that I have a pretty prolific history of being right, sane, and intelligent doesn't help. Pointing out that people know each other through the complex web of society and that one instance of a behavior doesn't implicate the group is also decried. Basically, their beliefs are their security blanket and the only thing in their miserable lives that gives them meaning.
I mostly feel sorry for them, but not enough to stop mocking them.
There, you have a novella for the day!

I love how he claimed he never made an ultimatum less than 3 comments down from where he made his ultimatum

Look at the downvotes, really makes you think.

It's really too bad the site creator didn't meet his deadline too, now we no longer get to talk to a liar who starts drama.
