ddg is pro privacy about as much a google is not evil

obvious-throwaway- ago

Let me fix that for you,

Jewish owned Pro-privacy search engine DuckDuckGo hits 30M daily searches, up 50% in a year

Interesting for people who say DDG only uses Google for their engine:

DuckDuckGo gets its results from over four hundred sources. These include hundreds of vertical sources delivering niche Instant Answers, DuckDuckBot (our crawler) and crowd-sourced sites (like Wikipedia, stored in our answer indexes). We also of course have more traditional links in the search results, which we also source from a variety of partners, including Oath (formerly Yahoo) and Bing.

Also remember to use: https://myactivity.google.com/

...then delete what you find there for all time.

DDG is shit. Startpage is shit. SearX is where I'm at now.

Speakfree ago

Doesn't ddg use the same seo as google?

Gandi ago

I default to DDG.

hang_em_high ago

My problem with all the alternative searches they don’t include a date with each search result like Google.

mrfetus ago

To put voat's popularity in perspective we have 1.2M views per day. We're getting bigger.

We're all in this Voat together.

https://archive.fo/wdqM5 :

Pro-privacy search engine DuckDuckGo hits 30M daily searches, up 50% in a year – TechCrunch

'Some nice momentum for privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo which has just announced it’s hit 30 million daily searches a year after reaching 20M — a year-on-year increase of 50%. '

'DDG’s search engine offers a pro-privacy alternative to Google search that does not track and profile users in order to target them with ads. '

'Hitting the first 10M daily searches took the search engine a full seven years, and then it was another two to get to 20M. So as growth curves go it must have required patience and a little faith in the run up. '

'Not tracking people in the first place positions DDG’s business to be able to keep on flying regardless of tighter rules incoming. '

'DDG says it has been profitable using its non-tracking business model since 2014, also making money from affiliate revenue. '

Feel free to toss insults at me but...

How do they afford to keep an active internet connection, develop their search algorithm, and run the hardware for their crawlers without something for income? While I like the idea I just don't see how to keep it lasting long term without something for an income plan.

mrfetus ago

The Jews. Are you new here? 😆

Thrus2 ago

So you are saying the jews are supporting a site that doesn't track you or record your data or sell the data to others but encourages you to use the net in a more anonymous way? that seems counter to every other thing they have been accused of here.

mrfetus ago

The question I'd pose is why would a Jew buy such a site?

Why do we see a similar post promoting DDG every day or two?

Thrus2 ago

Why buy it that is easy, either to close it or to change the way they treat personal data later to sell it. Other unlikely option would be to operate as a loss for tax reasons. But that would bring the question of how long ago did they buy it if the were not the creators.

mrfetus ago

Or to manipulate the search results, I've seen that change.

Or market as a privacy option while conjoining it to the deep state apparatus.

In none of these cases is it good for us. We shouldn't use it.

UnknownAlias365 ago

This is the first I've seen of duckduckgo being promoted in a long time.

mrfetus ago

There are several today. Why would I lie about this?

https://voat.co/v/technology/2784773/

Saufsoldat ago

Today, yes, because the media is report on it today. When was the last time before that?

Why would you lie about this?

Saufsoldat ago

In other words, nothing.

OH LOOK, THERE IS A CONCENTRATED EFFORT TO SHILL FOR GOOGLE! POSTS EVERY HOUR!

Go back to reddit, shill.

mrfetus ago

DDG is owned by the JEWS now.

buggermeevenharder ago

Was looking for this post. Voat never disappoints.

mrfetus ago

Brother, we are all we have.

buggermeevenharder ago

I'm grateful for the fraternal affection, but not sure what you mean. I don't have any hope for persuading Democrats, progressives, socialists, or other moral authoritarians. Maybe there are still some old fashioned liberals who haven't fully realized the rapidly encroaching swarms who can yet be saved. I see a few of them among the #walkaway movement.

mrfetus ago

The normies are slowly but surely seeing the light.

They have to break our spirits to win, don't let them.

WitnesstheSalt ago

...though I've switched to searx.me as of late.

CheeseburgerMan00 ago

I hadn't heard of this search engine before. I gave it and go and I like it. Thanks man.

Hayashimo ago

I've been using it too as of late. I really don't like the whole rate limit thing though. Makes it really tempting to go back to DDG at times.

buggermeevenharder ago

What do you like about searx.me?

WitnesstheSalt ago

The simple answer for me: when I do a search for a website, searx.me doesn't automatically slap the wikipedia entry as the top link. I'm looking for the website, not the opinion of a bunch of SJW shut-ins about it.

mrfetus ago

Same.
