it's not that bad for basic metadata, it's likely that not -everything- is stored like with google. generally not good opsec to use "compromised" search engines, it really depends on if you're using a proxy, the type of computer you're on, what you're searching for / doing etc
if it's just daily bouncing around then no real harm. if you're looking up racial history, anarchist websites, forums like 8ch dot net, etc, then you should definitely be more secure
