Treatment of mental diseases at the hospital before the 1920s consisted mainly of keeping patients occupied with work and recreation, and restraining violent patients. Many patients worked on the hospital’s 500-acre farm... In the late 1940s insulin and electroshock treatments were common, and in the 1950s lobotomies were used on some patients. Throughout the hospital’s history the use of drugs became more extensive. The hospital served as a surgical center for many of the other state institutions, as well as for Rochester State Hospital. The Mayo Clinic provided doctors free of charge, and the hospital absorbed the cost of supplies.

A major reconstruction program, begun in 1948, included the construction of two geriatric buildings, a powerhouse, and eleven staff houses.[2] The hospital’s campus continued to change as well. After World War II, there was an influx of geriatric patients. From 100 patients in 1879 the hospital grew to over 1,000 patients by 1900, and there were over 1,700 patients in 1955. With the old Kirkbride building unable to accommodate them, a major construction program began in 1948. By 1964, newer buildings served most of the patients and the Kirkbride structures were torn down. In 1965, the City of Rochester purchased 212 acres of the hospital’s farm land and turned it into Quarry Hill Park...

..Just north of the former State Hospital, 2,019 residents of the State Hospital were laid to rest between 1886 and 1965 in unmarked graves or graves only indicated by numbers stamped into concrete markers molded from coffee cans. After the hospital closure in 1982 a portion of the state hospital land was acquired by the city of Rochester and is now Quarry Hill Nature Center. When the city became responsible for mowing the old cemetery grounds, the cement grave markers wreaked havoc on their mowers and many of the markers were thrown into the nearby woods. The cemetery is now part of the Quarry Hills Nature Center.

Discontent exploded in the 1964 Rochester race riot. Triggered by the attempted arrest of a 19-year-old intoxicated black male at a street block party, order was restored after three days, and only after Governor Nelson Rockefeller called out the New York National Guard.... In the wake of the riots the Rochester Area Churches, together with black civil rights leaders, invited Saul Alinsky of the Industrial Areas Foundation to help the community organize. With the Reverend Franklin Florence, who had been close to Malcolm X, they established FIGHT (Freedom, Integration, God, Honor, Today), which successfully brought pressure to bear on Eastman Kodak to help open up employment and city governance.

Samuel Selden and Dr. Levi Ward, Sr., become the primary landowners and build homes and raise their families in Grove Place. (The Ward family was represented in Grove Place for nearly 150 years.)

George B. Selden invents the gasoline automobile in his uncle’s barn directly behind the townhouses. His patent, never put into production, ultimately produces rich royalties. The Selden car is introduced in 1908. Selden retires in 1911 when the U.S. Circuit Court relieves Henry Ford and other producers from obligations to the Selden patent

Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church was built as First German Lutheran Church in 1845. It became the Jewish War Veterans Post, then Emmanuel Church in 1993. Symphony Terrace townhouses were built in 1996-98 on the site of Siba Ward Smith's home which Temple B'rith Kodesh replaced in 1893. The Temple was destroyed in 1909 by a fire that damaged 70 houses and 3 churches. The Temple was rebuilt, but destroyed by fire again in 1963. The land became a parking lot.

Concern with social issues has been a recurring theme in the church's history. In the late 1800s the church provided evening classes and other activities for children in the church's low-income neighborhood... In the 1930s the church provided office space for Planned Parenthood when other accommodations were difficult to find.

..The ministry of Newton Mann, who served from 1870 to 1888, was a period of stability and growth.. In 1870 Mann was invited to give an evening lecture at Temple B'rith Kodesh, Rochester's oldest and largest synagogue. This interfaith event, the first of its type in Rochester, contributed to a formal split between reformers and traditionalists within B'rith Kodesh and, according to The Jewish Community in Rochester by Stuart Rosenberg, "shook the Jewish community in America and even had reverberations abroad."

Gannett ministry

William Channing Gannett served as minister from 1889 to 1908.[17] He came from a prominent Unitarian family, his father, Ezra Stiles Gannett, having written the constitution for the American Unitarian Association and served as its first secretary... While pastor of a Unitarian church in Wisconsin before coming to Rochester, William had served as vice president of that state's women's suffrage association.

David Rhys Williams was minister from 1928 to 1958. He was an advocate of family planning and served on the executive committee of the local Birth Control League.. When Margaret Sanger, a national leader of the family planning movement, spoke at Temple B'rith Kodesh in 1932, she was arrested for answering a question from the audience about where birth control devices could be obtained..

In 1953, during the McCarthy period, Williams' brother, Albert Rhys Williams, was accused by the House Un-American Activities Committee of having supported the Communist Party from 1919 to 1929. Rev. Williams supported his brother and criticized his attackers. Thirteen members of the congregation accused Williams of being soft on Communism and attempted to have him dismissed from the pulpit. When the issue was put to a congregational vote, the only votes against Williams were the thirteen who had made the accusation, all of whom subsequently left the church. A prominent member of First Unitarian who supported Williams during this controversy was Frank Gannett, founder of the Gannett newspaper chain, who had campaigned for the Republican nomination to run against Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1940 presidential elections.

This is exactly why Q was bringing up the fake polls from earlier. There's the obvious manipulation of the public... but yes. If they are CIA employees they are very much violating the Hatch Act.
