Pretty cool I can't figure out my password and a very valid email address I use for everything. voat thinks is not valid.. So I can't get an email allowing me to change my password.. Love it. Does voat make you use caps and a number and a symbol when making a password? That info can help me figure mine out.
You're on voat. You're on hundreds of government lists. And depending on how you classify lists, the private lists you're on probably number more than the grains of sand on [random beach name].
I could point to several things. Discord is one example, are you aware of the stink kevdude made about discord? @mightyyetgentle1488 started the server (during a time that other SBBH folks were destroying voat chat!) so that people like myself, who used voat chat almost daily, could still chat with voaters.
Well for some reason, kevdude really didn't like that. He started a campaign with ExpertShitposter and a few other SBBH people in ProtectVoat, Whatever, and other subs claiming that Mighty was one of the OWNERS of discord. As in owned the entire company, or has some extreme access to IP logs and underlying network information.
Not only did he make this claim, he claimed that mighty would use this discord server as a weapon to unmask and destroy the reputations of voat users.
Which is fucking hilarious, because he himself (kevdude) has joined the discord server to talk shit.
That's just one example, but it's one I remember best. He lied to so many voaters and he fucking knew he was lying to them. He knew why discord got made, he knew it was because @SaneGoatsiSwear basically rendered regular voat chat unusable. And yet he goes on that astroturfing campaign, and he goes so far that Putt notices, and even Putt was fooled by kev and blocked the discord domain.
Check for yourself, even to this day, discord is a blocked domain on Voat because of his empty claims.
The retards need to learn to remember their passwords, Putt. Besides, anyone with a big boy job should know they have to memorize passwords. Most IT departments will set up password resets at least monthly.
SBBH has changed, some people moved on, nothing to hide really.
We'll see if this remains true
I don't hold you responsible for their interactions, and I hope that goes both ways.
I don't hold you responsible for anything you don't do personally. I give kevdude a hard time because he attempts to hide his association with them. I think he is exceedingly dishonest on an individual basis, and I think he lacks ethics.
Again, it's a smear.
Maybe so. It was hearsay, to be fair. I recall someone accusing one of you of using CP as a weapon at one point... but alas, I can't recall. It's been some time now. For all I know, it may have been hecho they were accusing.
I don't know anything about your interactions with them and I hope you'll not hold me responsible for their interactions with you.
I personally don't know you well at all. I'm more familiar with other SBBH kiddos. I'm aware 'net allegations are difficult to refute, beatle and others use that to their advantage with frequence...
It was a temporary home for SBBH
Like I said, it was a relocation. And kevdude is making it obvious to me he's trying to distance himself from SBBH, as if he weren't one of them in the past. It's laughable to me, and I don't see how you can't call that dishonesty.
Other people have speculated that hecho was among you guys long before he was modded to SBBH btw...
The difference between discord and SBBH/RotR/CoS is that we don't try to be an authority here. We don't try to tell others how to behave, like kevdude and gabara do.
We don't run a sub called "Protect voat" that attempts to tell voaters what is and isn't trustworthy, or what to think or believe.
Why should I believe you, Triggly? You guys have a long history of being dishonest and pretending it's "shitposting", you use that as a guise for all manner of unsavory activity and then play dumb.
The difference between discord and SBBH/RotR/CoS is that we don't try to be an authority here. We don't try to tell others how to behave, like kevdude and gabara do.
I just popped in, so maybe you've addressed this, but: The behavior you're describing sounds a lot like myg. And you're lumping all the users of multiple subs into a single category, conflating it with PV, and then contending that you shouldn't be judged by the company you keep.
Kevdude judges me by the company I keep all the time, are you not following along? Most of the time, he claims that I literally AM myg, sane, grifter, sar, saverem, you fuckin' name it. He's called me all sorts of people.
And you're upset when I judge him for the way he behaves on an individual basis? Lord have mercy. I'm dissatisfied with a lot of personalities that belonged to SBBH, but I'm particularly dissatisfied by him.
MYG does not run a subverse on voat telling voaters what to think or do. You're off your rocker if you're going to make such a comparison.
I'm not upset about what you think of kevdude. What bothers me is the bullshit: You don't like him & PV, yet you continually drag SBBH into it like it's some conspiracy theory. And then you say the personalities "belong" to SBBH, like its some centrally controlled thing. Lol
myg may not run a sub, but he certainly makes posts full of lies to sew a sense of distrust among Voaters.
Wrong. I don't like PV because kevdude runs it, while also maintaining what often feels like an army. You guys coordinate fucking downvoats, you coordinate smear campaigns on individual users. You lump dissenters into "one" person and continually accuse them all of being this one person, to make their argument weak. It's pathetic to me, it really is.
Myg can be an asshole. He really can. The difference is we don't all gang up and help him do whatever the fuck he feels like doing, unlike SBBH people. SBBH folks seem to really group up and bully other people. If you don't see that, you're not looking whatsoever.
I don't coordinate shit. Here's what happens: You make baseless attacks, and then are baselessly attacked back. Again here you are, calling me "you guys" as we are talking one on one, and meanwhile complaining that you're being lumped together with myg. Are you gaslighting or just blind to this?
When I say 'you guys' I'm referring to the most caustic people in SBBH, not you, george. I'm referring to beatle, expert, gabara. The bad seeds.
Kevdude, mick, and yourself keep your noses clean for the most part. I seem to be one of the few users that can trigger kevdude into dragging himself through the mud to attack someone.
I'm not gaslighting. I'm pointing out that you guys operate in a significantly different manner than anyone in discord does, and if you deny that, then you're the blind one here.
Yes, I did. But I did so privately. You accuse me of being them, knowing very well that I am not. You don't do it to bother me. You do it to try to convince other voaters I'm not who I say I am.
Ah, but you're not saying I hang out with them, you're saying I am them. Why do you so often change your accusation?
Why is using Discord inherently malevolent in your eyes? We literally let anyone in voat join it. You, however, ban people from your subs regularly and prevent them from defending themselves from your attacks on their character. Poor form.
I don't remember offering you a "membership". :D I simply gave you the opportunity to address your desire to learn about what goes on "behind the scenes". And it's ok for you to remain willfully ignorant if that's your desire.
SBBH isn't the SBBH it once was. The [most] caustic users have left it and gone elsewhere, or chosen other names. Gabara and Shroomcloud are about to make fresh alts, you guys started several other shitpost subs (/v/councilofshitposters, /v/ridersofthereich, some others)
kevdude had left. I see him as the biggest threat, because he establishes himself as an authority on /v/protectvoat, yet he doesn't mind downvoating users on site and I've caught him lying more than once.
I'm more worried about him than any of the rest of you, honestly.
Almost double your activity than in any other sub, short by maybe 25 posts. Over 400 submissions. And you're going to try to tell me you're not associated with them? Really, kev?
This method is the tops. My password, on a paranoia-level virtual machine, used to be an entire paragraph (punctuation and all) excerpt from a book that I liked. Let's just say that password character limits piss me off.
I've used the same password my whole life and never had issues. It's similar to what you describe. Take something easy to remember and then change it up a little.
really? so if I type in my ******** it will only come up in asterisks? Seems like a really great ******** security mechanism! Really helps people like me who struggle to pick a ********
Don't care, I would just make a new account. I wish everyone here was anon. Celebrity gets attached to names, then people like or dislike based on celebrity as opposed to content. Celebrity is some reddit shit.
I've secretly inserted code into the codebase. Everytime you post something after this weekend, a "General Alert" midi announcement will play and Voat will go into lockdown mode for a while 'til we get bored with the inactivity and go and tea-bag yer mum.
My browser remembers my password for me, so I'll be able to log in easily there. If my phone has difficulty remembering the password, then I'll change it on my browser to something I can easily put onto my phone.
Okay, that's what I thought. I guess my assumption was that most people logged in without knowing their password just used their browser's "remember password feature", though that is not necessarily the case. But adding a recovery email is the option if no remember password" feature was used.
Can you confirm for me whether or not the "current password" field is automatically filled in at the bottom of the account manage page? I've mentioned to people the email recovery option, but primarily I've been suggesting just changing the password if the "current password" field is already filled in. Not sure if for some it is not, but it is for me.
How people get by without remembering their passwords or using a password manager is beyond me. Listen up goats, set up Keepass and then generate secure passwords for everything. You then just need to remember your keepass password.
As a working class sysadmin, I approve this message. No, I can't see what your password is/was. Yes I can change it, but I'm busy putting out larger fires with the (pick anything in the datacenter) at the moment. /u/PuttItOut has given you plenty of early warning and good advice, today being Tuesday. If you're logged in already, just go change your password to something you can remember, like 1488l33t or 420yolo!. If you never log out of stuff, you should know that we talk about people like you over beers.
And hey, thanks Putt. This place is all I have left to believe in.
Hey everyone, may I suggest all you bastards start using a password manager? They're awesome. But don't use some online only service like a retard would. Use KeePassXC or something similar. It encrypts all your passwords for safe keeping, all you need to do is memorize ONE password which opens your "container" of passwords. You can make very long complex passwords for all your shit and never have to memorize any of them so you can finally move away from using the same damn password for everything you use online like a retard does and you retards know who you are.... (just remember the one that opens your encrypted container)
It IS superior. Sorry you're so butt-hurt about it. It's mobile, take it wherever you go, it's secure, it stores passwords OFFLINE, instead of online where a simple keylogger can compromise your entirety of existence...
...it was created by the hackaday community, a community that's regularly steeped in computer security.
Also, you don't need to include a picture of yourself when posting on the internet.
That's because your response was pretty pathetically, obviously, based on emotion rather than actual argument. 3 tenets of security. Something you know, something you have, and something you are. The tool I presented covers 2 of those things and does a better job of it than the software that you need to install on each and every machine you go to. You are not using logic here, you're just angry that someone presented a more secure alternative. My JOB was to break into systems for at least 8-10 years, and SSO apps like KeePass are like leaving everything on the kitchen table and your front door unlocked. Your social security card, drivers license, all laying in a single spot.
Can't fucking hack shit that isn't online. Airgaps are one of the most secure methods of storage. You don't store your bitcoin in fucking Google Drive, you print that shit and store it in a safe...unless you WANT it compromised.
Yes, it's "clunky"...so are TOTP tokens. But they exist for good reason. The mention of that tool was merely presenting other people with alternatives - if they want to be less secure, they can use KeePassX (still more secure than writing your passwords down), and if they want to be a little more secure, they can use my proposed tool. Just presenting people with options, calm down...yeesh.
your response was pretty pathetically, obviously, based on emotion
You are not using logic here, you're just angry that someone presented a more secure alternative.
Gotta say, you may need a filter adjustment. These claims you're making don't match that guys comments...
Your social security card, drivers license, all laying in a single spot.
Yes... but I'm not seeing the connection with the internet here. How is someone going to hack my left drawer through my computer? SS card is actually in the bedroom. So I'm curious to know how a hacker could come through my computer to get to my SS card in the bedroom, and the dl in the kitchen drawer.
And yes, any qualified person can buy the full set of all my info, but you specifically claimed they could come through my computer to find and copy my physical cards. Seems 'unlikely', but maybe I'm just clueless. Fill me in.
You're taking a metaphor as literal interpretation.
You use one master password with KeePassX in order to fill in all your other passwords. Typing that password on a computer keyboard can be easily sniffed by the simplest of keyloggers. That single password, gives attackers ALL OF YOUR OTHER passwords.
Having an offline device, means that master password is never typed into a keyboard that is attached to an OS which might be compromised. It's this separation of input which grants you greater security.
Unfortunately /u/deejf thinks he knows his shit (he even has cryptocurrency listed in his voat sig), but he's showing he obviously knows nothing about computer security.
Okay, I'm thinking they could get my amazon account, but they'd need to supply their own gift card to make a purchase. There's obviously no bank information on my computer, and my Paypal account balance typically stays under $10. I view any information on an electronic device as potentially compromised. More so when it's connected to the internet.
They could take over my banned reddit account. lol Would have to make a new voat account, and maybe a couple others. I do have some steam games, and that might be a pain in the ass, but over all, no huge loss.
Just looked through my saved password list. Steam, Mojang, and google are the only accounts that would be problematic, afaik. There's no cash value in the others, although I suppose they could try to obtain credit with some of them?
Dunno how much this helps with hacking attempts, but on most sites I visit, I only enable the minimum number of scripts and such to get what I want.
I'm saying that KeePassX is platform agnostic as far as having windows, linux, or osx. And Mooltipass is platform agnostic as far as ANYTHING that implements USB. ANYTHING that can accept a USB-HID device. This means single-board computers, this means weird GNU operating systems, this means consoles, xbox, ps4...there's no KeePassX for PS4...is there...
It's also compatible with KeePass and both are open source under GPL2 license. You can use it on linux, mac, windows, android, and other iCrap devices as well!
I wish most people would use the password manager with very strong master passwords. We are not mentally equipped to remember a set of random passwords that are 32 to 128 chars long.
Then all you have to do is remember one password (and keep track of your two factor device). Then all your passwords look like: #x$esYdM8OsI!@$vuEjrnh0X.
Just click on the gear icon up top to go to your settings, scroll down to Change Password, your old password will already be entered, type in a new password where it says new password.
You were on the brink, @PuttItOut, you were worn out, crispy around the edges, your golf swing sucked and you were ready to say, "Fuck it all!" but, in your darkest hours you put out the call (put.. it.. out?) and we slobs all rallied behind you to help make our little world a better place. I'm so proud!
Do you have someone (you know, one of your many spare employees...) making a list of wealthy potential donors and contacting them with a compelling offer to let them support voat? There are a number of billionaires, and even more millionaires who are on the right. Show them why it's in their interest, and some will say yes. Can it become a tax write-off? Are there other ways it could be positioned to be more attractive to them?
On the positive side: "I’ve given up golf"
Whatever it takes, man. Dunno if you're over the addiction yet, but you're going to be a better man for it. :^)
In all seriousness, you guys have done a wonderful job keeping this community alive. This is the best community of bastards I have ever been a part of.
Good one. He formed a team of SJW's and trannies (you especially). Good luck on your next "help goats muh server costs" moneybomb before the next exodus.
If you're logged in now I think you should be able to change your password. Putt saying "Voat will not assist in password recovery" just means Putt won't be able to respond to thousands of emails requesting access to accounts whose passwords were forgotten.
Try changing your password to something you know, now.
Oh shit i don't think i remember my password so i guess it's time for a new user name . Any good suggestions Voat here's what i got so far >EscapefromJewyork , Hitler_is_a_Regestred_Democrat , MohammedLovesFaggots
@100011 I'm pretty sure that if you're logged in right now you can also just change your password; your current password should be automatically filled in. At least this is the case on some browsers.
That's not strictly true. It may protect you from people using your machine to access your accounts, but potentially makes you more vulnerable to external exploitation.
When you authenticate to a website, you are usually going to do one of three things:
send your password (normal login)
send a hash of your password (normal login from the user's perspective, but more secure)
send an authentication token that proves you have previously logged in (happens if you don't log out of the site)
In all three cases, this is secured by HTTPS (unless the website owners are retarded, but we won't get into that). So, what happens in each of these cases if the encryption is broken?
the password is revealed in plaintext (attacker can log in, and also use your password on other websites)
the hash is revealed (attacker can log in, but doesn't know what the original password was)
the token is revealed (attacker can log in until the token expires)
Case 3 is certainly the safest, if you had to pick one. This simple explanation glosses over some of the finer details (ex: how is the encryption broken? is all HTTPS broken, or just a certain set of ciphers? how much of your traffic was recorded? etc.)
Of course the website itself is a huge element in safeguarding your passwords and data.
1) If it was on http without encryption and the password was in plaintext(who the fuck would do such thing X-D), you can have 256 chars of randomly generated password and it would still mean nothing to the malicious nodes that are sniffing on the wire.
2) If it was hashed, then, like you said, the original password remains safe. Usually the website will require the user to enter original unhashed password in order to change password, or optionally use the recovery email/phone. To this we could still argue that if the traffic wasn't encrypted, the password or the recovery link can still be sniffed to steal the account credential.
3) If it was a token, we could also argue the security of the token, such as how the token was generated. If the token was generated through some bogus procedure, then it may as well be easily stolen or forged.
4) If the website itself wasn't secure enough, we probably have to worry more about their website been hacked or their databases been stolen.
And with the options given, the strength of the ssl cipher is also very important. That's our baseline of defense. :-) Luckily Voat uses the tokens. I remember there were multiple Antiforgery tokens, database tokens, and authentication cookie.
Edit: you seem to know a lot about security, it would be an honor to have you around! We could learn different subjects from you!
Absolutely. If the traffic was over HTTP, none of this would matter because everything would be compromised.
Yep. And just to be clear, I'm not talking about just using an insecure connection like HTTP. I'm talking about an entity (like the government) recording encrypted internet traffic, and decrypting it at a later date (if a flaw in the encryption is found, or processing power increases enough to brute force it).
any sane token scheme is going to be backed by a database that verifies the creation of the token. However, it is certainly possible for someone to create a token scheme that encodes the expiration time inside the token itself, which would be incredibly exploitable.
Agreed. It's much easier to hit a specific target (like a website), since you will have many different attack surfaces to exploit.
Edit: you seem to know a lot about security, it would be an honor to have you around! We could learn different subjects from you!
I've been around for a couple of years, but I don't post that often. I'll try to join in more!
That's easy for me. I use the same password for Voat, my e-mail, my Steam, my Amazon, my Ebay, all other online shops, my PayPal, my Butcoin wallet and everything else, and as it is "password" it is is easy to remember.
I've changed it now, but I found out it was 'VoatGoatSoapOnARope,' which I would never have guessed in a million years. I wonder wtf I was smoking when I thought that one up.
If someone were to log off and try to log in again will they get some box to tick about recovering my their forgotten pw (I added an email to my account)?
You don't need your password to link an e-mail while you are logged in. Just link a temporary trash mail account, request password recovery by mail and use that one while discarding the trash mail account.
That and learn to never use password services on any system. Want me to remember it and keep you logged in? Fuck no, what do I look like a faggot? Or a feminist? If I cannot remember simple passwords for a few dozen systems what good am I to anyone other than a fucking consumer. No fucking thank you Apple/Microsoft/Globalists.
ts worth making a new account every few months anyways.
Avoids someone doxing you from divulging too much info. Once your account gets too big, it becomes easier to piece together info. Not saying its a voat problem, more of a information stream issue
It is one of the easiest exploits, this and saved forms are a gold mine for black hats on the dark web. If you are enjoying the benefits of auto fill forms when you order things online, so is Sasha in Russia. "Da, Americans are so lazy... here is the number comrade, nice it has a 10K USD limit and hardly any balance. Thank you Chase Bank N.A. for underpaying your security team. They are cheaper than vodka. Speaking of which... Nostrovia!"
Thanks to Putt and all these great goats that helped in this effort. Not being a coder or really into what this entailed, I tried my best to stay out of the way and just keep up the good fight against spammers, while you guys did the work, so don't hate me ... I contributed in a different way ... one I'm more comfortable with. I'm certain all your hard efforts will be worth it! Thanks a bunch!
New code has functionality in it that will allow us to respond to spam in a timely fashion. These things are a direct result from the work being done at v/reportspammers and you are instrumental in this effort.
You play a part in spreading hate sites? I see that you're concerned about a big move, but it would be a problem if some groups took down the new site for spreading hate speech. Just something to keep in mind.
Glad to hear that something very good was able to come from that subverse and that Voat has been able to survive through countless waves of spam to this point in time. Here's to several more years of Voat and true freedom of speech!
I think the list is for people who helped with coding or testing the server builds and submitting bug reports. I doubt the value of anyone's posts outside of that context was considered.
You're out of your element Donnie. No one is saying they didn't help, we find it interesting that so many willing to help are banhammer faggots.
Okay then, I'll put it bluntly. The opportunity was open to anyone, and announced to the public several times. If others weren't a part of that group, then clearly others didn't give a fuck about Voat's future migration. That's it. Telling about the other groups, but not so much about SBBH.
And who the fuck is Donnie? Clearly I'm missing a reference.
Yeah I'm aware that a public service call went out. Just because a snake does something nice, doesn't make him less of a snake.
Its worth being pointed out. Not sure why you're taking offense to this, other than being confused on our understanding of how they were recruited by putt.
I guess I just find it of particular intrigue that they're worthy of thanks, considering some of these names I've seen blatantly lying to voaters, and knowingly so...
Yeah, what are you going to do? My favorite was kevdude saying he "has interacted with them" as if he weren't a part of (or perhaps leader of) their crew...
I think they just do whatever they can to win approval from Putt, so that they can terrorize voaters without his interference.
Everyone on that list are those who received badges for successfully reporting actual bugs on the preview environments. Their posts are public and you can see them in /v/voatdev.
Sounds like military level security. You change it every 30 days and you don't write it down anywhere. Even civilians have to follow the protocol when on DoD systems. Hillary would have never survived as a normal citizen soldier, she would have ended up doing push ups until she puked to use secure systems properly. That or sent off to federal prison. Following the rules is just not her style, she's a thug after all.
You change it every 30 days and you don't write it down anywhere.
Thankfully, NIST no longer recommends mandatory password changes as best practice, because time isn't the enemy of passwords and people fall back to using crap stub passwords that they iterate on.
There were some depositions of IT from her tenure as secretary of state that described how they tried to get her a computer in her office, but they couldn't make it meet her needs because she couldn't remember passwords or use her email through the secure system. They ended up giving her an entire area on the floor so that she could use her coveted blackberries to access her emails in the non-secure area. Just completely bananas.
However, to reset your password for a US military system (at least in my day) all you needed was your birthdate, maybe your SSN, and your name. I never bothered to remember any passwords because resetting them was just as easy.
Hah I remember doing exactly that pretty much every time I had to log in for anything AKO related. I was an infantry medic though so luckily didn't have to do much on computers.
This is a complete and utter bollocks security policy. What's more secure, a series of Password1!, Password2! derivatives or a tough fucker like Chek2frecAl+ that you choose ONCE? At least NIST agrees with me now
BTW, the password above was generated by apg on Linux, probably there are Windows apps for pronouncable-password generation too. Can't be arsed to look for them at the moment though.
"For quick background, The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce."
I think I will change it once a month with apg and then put it in a text file encrypted with GPG, thank you. ;-)
This is a complete and utter bollocks security policy
Not only that, but one system I had to use, remembered the last five passwords and wouldn't let you reuse one. The password also had to be a min of 16 chars with at least 2 lowercase, 2 uppercase, 2 special chars, and 2 numbers. But it wasn't a 30 day change, I think it was 60 or 90 days. I used keyboard patterns, and then reversed them, then started using my name with extra padding, then reversed that.
The embassy that I used to work at has this same policy but you don't get to choose your password though. When it comes time to change it you get a choice of 9 unpronounceable passwords to choose from.
Man, my sessions tend to last for several months until my 30-40 tabs crash my system. Installed session buddy after the last time, so we'll see how this goes.
Me too, theres about four dozen or more about:config changes I've done to Pale Moon that harden the fuck outta the browser, a bunch of privacy/security extensions too, which are the only ones I use like self destructing cookes, disabled java, https everywhere, no referer, agent spoofer, disabled requests, uBlock Origin, VPN, disable LSO cookies etc etc. Combine that good stuff with a security focused change in ones browsing habits like randomized user names and changing user accounts on sites like voat every few months and it all adds up to I can't be tracked outside of some targeted attack by three letter agency.

I don't care. I use the same password for everything: Voat, my luggage. the planetary air shield. 12345. Easiest password to remember.
Womb_Raider ago
Liar. You explicitly said he had access to IP logs and would dox users. You are scum.
libby ago
So cool that I split a sub!
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
You're on voat. You're on hundreds of government lists. And depending on how you classify lists, the private lists you're on probably number more than the grains of sand on [random beach name].
malloryquinn ago
I for one am dying to see the cost difference between azure.net +mssql vs Linux/postgres
Womb_Raider ago
I don't ping him because he brags about downvoating me on sight. He also tells me not to ping him.
Anyway,
Please. Prove to me that our discord server is in any way a greater security risk than any other discord server. I will wait.
Womb_Raider ago
I'm waiting, @13osiris13. I see you're making new comments.
squataclops ago
Actually just remembered it!
Womb_Raider ago
Womb_Raider ago
I think some of the names above deserve to be there more so than others.
I assume you meant "shouldn't"... but where is the line drawn between shitposting and generally trying to mislead people?
Failure ago
we need full-unicode passwords, where we need a character from each block, then hashed over md5, sha1, bcrypt, sha512, md5 again, then through rot13
Failure ago
Dont forget that Fuzzy and I are Jewish slavemasters that have Putt chained in out basement
ExpertShitposter ago
Implying we all don't know that you and @fuzzywords are the same person!
Failure ago
well yeah, but my personalities try to pretend to be different people
ExpertShitposter ago
A trick you learened from sanegoat alts such as myg amalek ec, pretending to be different people agreaing with each other.
Womb_Raider ago
I mean, you're one of them, so why talk about them in the third person?
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
You know, I noticed that Tsilent_Tsunami is on the list too. Guy said in his post he wanted to contribute. Go figure.
Arotaes_Forgehammer ago
whomst've be fixin' the voat
NotHereForPizza ago
The retards need to learn to remember their passwords, Putt. Besides, anyone with a big boy job should know they have to memorize passwords. Most IT departments will set up password resets at least monthly.
Womb_Raider ago
We'll see if this remains true
I don't hold you responsible for anything you don't do personally. I give kevdude a hard time because he attempts to hide his association with them. I think he is exceedingly dishonest on an individual basis, and I think he lacks ethics.
Maybe so. It was hearsay, to be fair. I recall someone accusing one of you of using CP as a weapon at one point... but alas, I can't recall. It's been some time now. For all I know, it may have been hecho they were accusing.
knightwarrior41 ago
i have my password saved on my browser.so when the changes takes effect will i be ok?
Mick ago
Yep, you'll be fine.
knightwarrior41 ago
okie dokie thanks for replying :)
Womb_Raider ago
I don't know anything about your interactions with them and I hope you'll not hold me responsible for their interactions with you.
I personally don't know you well at all. I'm more familiar with other SBBH kiddos. I'm aware 'net allegations are difficult to refute, beatle and others use that to their advantage with frequence...
Browngaijin ago
I'm all good. Thanks for the heads up. See you on the other side.
squataclops ago
Well it was fun while it lasted ;)
Mick ago
Holy shit, you made 408 submissions to SBBH. That's outstanding!
Womb seems a bit jelly the last couple of days.
Womb_Raider ago
The difference between discord and SBBH/RotR/CoS is that we don't try to be an authority here. We don't try to tell others how to behave, like kevdude and gabara do.
We don't run a sub called "Protect voat" that attempts to tell voaters what is and isn't trustworthy, or what to think or believe.
Why should I believe you, Triggly? You guys have a long history of being dishonest and pretending it's "shitposting", you use that as a guise for all manner of unsavory activity and then play dumb.
heygeorge ago
I just popped in, so maybe you've addressed this, but: The behavior you're describing sounds a lot like myg. And you're lumping all the users of multiple subs into a single category, conflating it with PV, and then contending that you shouldn't be judged by the company you keep.
Womb_Raider ago
Kevdude judges me by the company I keep all the time, are you not following along? Most of the time, he claims that I literally AM myg, sane, grifter, sar, saverem, you fuckin' name it. He's called me all sorts of people.
And you're upset when I judge him for the way he behaves on an individual basis? Lord have mercy. I'm dissatisfied with a lot of personalities that belonged to SBBH, but I'm particularly dissatisfied by him.
MYG does not run a subverse on voat telling voaters what to think or do. You're off your rocker if you're going to make such a comparison.
heygeorge ago
I'm not upset about what you think of kevdude. What bothers me is the bullshit: You don't like him & PV, yet you continually drag SBBH into it like it's some conspiracy theory. And then you say the personalities "belong" to SBBH, like its some centrally controlled thing. Lol
myg may not run a sub, but he certainly makes posts full of lies to sew a sense of distrust among Voaters.
Womb_Raider ago
If you don't see that, you're not looking whatsoever.
heygeorge ago
I don't coordinate shit. Here's what happens: You make baseless attacks, and then are baselessly attacked back. Again here you are, calling me "you guys" as we are talking one on one, and meanwhile complaining that you're being lumped together with myg. Are you gaslighting or just blind to this?
Womb_Raider ago
When I say 'you guys' I'm referring to the most caustic people in SBBH, not you, george. I'm referring to beatle, expert, gabara. The bad seeds.
Kevdude, mick, and yourself keep your noses clean for the most part. I seem to be one of the few users that can trigger kevdude into dragging himself through the mud to attack someone.
I'm not gaslighting. I'm pointing out that you guys operate in a significantly different manner than anyone in discord does, and if you deny that, then you're the blind one here.
heygeorge ago
Once again, in the same comment: "you guys" and "I'm not referring to you." Lol. This is why I suggested gaslighting.
Womb_Raider ago
You're being ridiculous. You know very well what I mean.
heygeorge ago
Maybe I do, but that is only speculation based on our mutual experience.
I am referring to what you say, not your inferred meaning.
Womb_Raider ago
Play coy if you will, george. I don't have patience for your games.

Sueshia101 ago
So my question is how does one get voat to send a link to your email to change your email. I've been trying for days...
Mick ago
@FuzzyWords do you know the answer to the above?
Do you just enter a new mail address in your profile settings and hit submit? No sending of links occurs is that right?
Womb_Raider ago
Voat sees through you, mate.
Edit: I guess he didn't like that comment.
You've been banned from v/ridersofthereich :(
@kevdude has banned you from v/RidersoftheReich for the following reason: jew
Umrtvovacz ago
WTF. What kind of rabbit hole I went down? And why is this box so small?
Womb_Raider ago
You're looking at the underbelly of voat... shitposters. (not me, them)
Umrtvovacz ago
Yeah haha, you are so innocent. Just incessantly arguing about what? What subs who partakes in? Who are you to think that's your business?
But that was not the point of this screen, the point is the infinite borders and tiny text window.
Womb_Raider ago
If I'm not innocent, of what am I guilty?
The second part of your comment makes no sense. I assume you're asking about the way voat threads look when they get really long?
Umrtvovacz ago
Yep. I don't really care for your drama one way or another. But the tiny box and endless borders just look hilarious.
Womb_Raider ago
I don't really care for your opining.
Womb_Raider ago
So you concede defeat. Cheers!
Womb_Raider ago
I quite honestly think you do, kev. I really do.
internet_ronin ago
Womb_Raider ago
Yes, I did. But I did so privately. You accuse me of being them, knowing very well that I am not. You don't do it to bother me. You do it to try to convince other voaters I'm not who I say I am.
Again, poor form.
Womb_Raider ago
Ah, but you're not saying I hang out with them, you're saying I am them. Why do you so often change your accusation?
Why is using Discord inherently malevolent in your eyes? We literally let anyone in voat join it. You, however, ban people from your subs regularly and prevent them from defending themselves from your attacks on their character. Poor form.
Womb_Raider ago
The point remains the same.
It's obvious to me that you try to actively deceive voaters, and it pisses me off. Why shouldn't I be bothered by that?
Why should my standard of integrity have anything to do with those fools? It shouldn't.
Womb_Raider ago
He offered me one, I declined the offer.
Kind of you though, @heygeorge. Thanks anyway.
Mick ago
You should be an O, bud.
Womb_Raider ago
No incentive
heygeorge ago
I don't remember offering you a "membership". :D I simply gave you the opportunity to address your desire to learn about what goes on "behind the scenes". And it's ok for you to remain willfully ignorant if that's your desire.
Womb_Raider ago
SBBH isn't the SBBH it once was. The [most] caustic users have left it and gone elsewhere, or chosen other names. Gabara and Shroomcloud are about to make fresh alts, you guys started several other shitpost subs (/v/councilofshitposters, /v/ridersofthereich, some others)
heygeorge ago
Not that it particularly matters, but when I invited you, they were both active.
Womb_Raider ago
kevdude had left. I see him as the biggest threat, because he establishes himself as an authority on /v/protectvoat, yet he doesn't mind downvoating users on site and I've caught him lying more than once.
I'm more worried about him than any of the rest of you, honestly.
Womb_Raider ago
Doesn't matter who made it. SBBH people made it, SBBH people moved there, SBBH people left SBBH to pretend they're not in it anymore.
It's not slick.
Womb_Raider ago
If you say so. You made /v/RidersoftheReich, which has all the same fucking members. It's SBBH 2.0.
Long-time members of SBBH (some recently left, but they're SBBH people regardless) that are in RotR:

Womb_Raider ago
Almost double your activity than in any other sub, short by maybe 25 posts. Over 400 submissions. And you're going to try to tell me you're not associated with them? Really, kev?
Womb_Raider ago
I concede I made a mistake, but you tried to imply you were not among their group. Plain and simple. You've done this many times before.
implies you are not them. Period.
Womb_Raider ago
Yeah, after you edited the comment to add that bit in... dishonest to the end, huh?

Step 4: When you can't log back in, click "login" anyway, then click "forgot password?" at the bottom of the pop-up.

10621539? ago
Okay, that's what I thought. I guess my assumption was that most people logged in without knowing their password just used their browser's "remember password feature", though that is not necessarily the case. But adding a recovery email is the option if no remember password" feature was used.
10621470? ago

In chrome and firefox you can view saved passwords from the settings advanced security. Search for details and post a link if you have time.
thebassdude ago
As a working class sysadmin, I approve this message. No, I can't see what your password is/was. Yes I can change it, but I'm busy putting out larger fires with the (pick anything in the datacenter) at the moment. /u/PuttItOut has given you plenty of early warning and good advice, today being Tuesday. If you're logged in already, just go change your password to something you can remember, like 1488l33t or 420yolo!. If you never log out of stuff, you should know that we talk about people like you over beers.
And hey, thanks Putt. This place is all I have left to believe in.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Wait, people log out? At that point, you might as well close all your tabs, shut down your computer, and go outside.

You are such a faggot.
ZX4jBXu ago
Hey everyone, may I suggest all you bastards start using a password manager? They're awesome. But don't use some online only service like a retard would. Use KeePassXC or something similar. It encrypts all your passwords for safe keeping, all you need to do is memorize ONE password which opens your "container" of passwords. You can make very long complex passwords for all your shit and never have to memorize any of them so you can finally move away from using the same damn password for everything you use online like a retard does and you retards know who you are.... (just remember the one that opens your encrypted container)
Apathy ago
You can still change your password if you're logged in. Just go to settings, type in your old password, and then type in the new one and press submit.
weezkitty ago

No specific time though.
dontforgetaboutevil ago
That's dumb. There should be a definite cut off time or some people are gonna get caught with their pants down. There's no reason to do that.
Mick ago
That's Putts call.
I would say that 'this weekend' means people need to get their shit sorted by Friday evening.
Spread the word if you have Voat mates you think might need a heads-up.
deejf ago
KeePassX. Open source. Platform agnostic. Secure and flexible.
I've been using it for twelve years. :)
kitnaht ago
https://www.themooltipass.com/ -- actually platform agnostic, secure, offline password keeper. If it implements USB, you can use it.
deejf ago
Oh, I see, you're promoting a $79 boondoggle and pretending its superior.
I get it now.
kitnaht ago
It IS superior. Sorry you're so butt-hurt about it. It's mobile, take it wherever you go, it's secure, it stores passwords OFFLINE, instead of online where a simple keylogger can compromise your entirety of existence...
...it was created by the hackaday community, a community that's regularly steeped in computer security.
Also, you don't need to include a picture of yourself when posting on the internet.
deejf ago
Ah, yes, tell me that I'm butt-hurt so that any answer I give can be dismissed as emotion rather than an argument.
It looks clunky and inconvenient as hell. YOU might think it's superior, but, well, if your judgement is anything like your skill at persuasion...
kitnaht ago
That's because your response was pretty pathetically, obviously, based on emotion rather than actual argument. 3 tenets of security. Something you know, something you have, and something you are. The tool I presented covers 2 of those things and does a better job of it than the software that you need to install on each and every machine you go to. You are not using logic here, you're just angry that someone presented a more secure alternative. My JOB was to break into systems for at least 8-10 years, and SSO apps like KeePass are like leaving everything on the kitchen table and your front door unlocked. Your social security card, drivers license, all laying in a single spot.
https://www.theverge.com/2017/3/22/15023062/lastpass-security-flaw-passwords -- That's just in March of this year. There have been many more.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Gotta say, you may need a filter adjustment. These claims you're making don't match that guys comments...
Yes... but I'm not seeing the connection with the internet here.
Fill me in.
kitnaht ago
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Dunno how much this helps with hacking attempts, but on most sites I visit, I only enable the minimum number of scripts and such to get what I want.
kitnaht ago
Yes, but that's you. The suggestion was being made to a wide audience of people. Others may use this for banking, etc.
deejf ago
Excuse me, are you calling me a liar, or just being an asshole?
kitnaht ago
I'm saying that KeePassX is platform agnostic as far as having windows, linux, or osx. And Mooltipass is platform agnostic as far as ANYTHING that implements USB. ANYTHING that can accept a USB-HID device. This means single-board computers, this means weird GNU operating systems, this means consoles, xbox, ps4...there's no KeePassX for PS4...is there...
So I'm being an asshole.
MadWorld ago
It's also compatible with KeePass and both are open source under GPL2 license. You can use it on linux, mac, windows, android, and other iCrap devices as well!
deejf ago
Kind of what I meant by open source and platform agnostic, but I guess I wasn't clear enough. :)
MadWorld ago
I wish most people would use the password manager with very strong master passwords. We are not mentally equipped to remember a set of random passwords that are 32 to 128 chars long.
10619689? ago
I just sent my computers directly to the FBI whenever they ask.
kcamstar ago
With you, there isn't such a thing as a nice conversation... it's more like having hot pokers stuck in your eyes.
RoBatten ago
It's kind of like havin' a wank . . .
Chiefpacman ago
Andddd now theyre pinging me in their sub.
Shit is pathetic. Don't generally see that on phuks, I frequent. Granted, all communities have their undesirables.
The_Duke_of_Dabs ago
Changed and remembered! Thanks Putts!
digitalentity1497 ago
Here's to the smooth transition!
Slayfire122 ago
Or they put a bunch of shit in the code so they can pull some fuckery later. They probably care about Voat though.
lifeisabear ago
Does email recovery not work?
Mick ago
It does work, yes.
M3ta ago
Yeah, doesn't Voat automatically make passwords asterisks if you type them?
Mine is ****************************.
bloodguard ago
Get a password manager you filthy animals.
Then all you have to do is remember one password (and keep track of your two factor device). Then all your passwords look like: #x$esYdM8OsI!@$vuEjrnh0X.
I recommend Keeper Security.
SirDigbyChikenCaesar ago
Just click on the gear icon up top to go to your settings, scroll down to Change Password, your old password will already be entered, type in a new password where it says new password.
Voopin__Voopin ago
Sup Sane!
I actually LOL'd at this one :)

Context for new goats: https://voat.co/v/announcements/1866053
PuttItOut ago
Hurts to read that, brings up some hard times.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Do you have someone (you know, one of your many spare employees...) making a list of wealthy potential donors and contacting them with a compelling offer to let them support voat? There are a number of billionaires, and even more millionaires who are on the right. Show them why it's in their interest, and some will say yes. Can it become a tax write-off? Are there other ways it could be positioned to be more attractive to them?
On the positive side: "I’ve given up golf"
Whatever it takes, man. Dunno if you're over the addiction yet, but you're going to be a better man for it. :^)
wuzizname ago
We got you. Never underestimate our commitment to you.
redpilldessert ago
Instead of $6,600 per month as before, how much is Voat eating up now thanks to the new system, or don't you know yet?
kitnaht ago
This should give us some options to shop around.
Chiefpacman ago
That doesn't make like the remnants any more though.
Phuks > sbbh. Libtards/Europeans yes, but they can generally hold a conversation better. They post more worthwhile shit.
Ding_dong ago
you sound paranoid. I wonder why putt trusts you. Or maybe that's why he trusts you, since you guys have so much to hide.
heygeorge ago
lol
flope_de ago
Good luck with the switch. I wish I could have done more to help.
Chiefpacman ago
Sorry I'm not nice to you queers?
:(
DillHoleBagHands ago
WHEN IS THE NEXT MERCH SALE /s
In all seriousness, you guys have done a wonderful job keeping this community alive. This is the best community of bastards I have ever been a part of.
Ding_dong ago
Good one. He formed a team of SJW's and trannies (you especially). Good luck on your next "help goats muh server costs" moneybomb before the next exodus.
Chiefpacman ago
I know that he's worshipped by fags on voat.
Dont care otherwise. But I appreciate you guys confirming that none of you can have an argument by yourself.
You have to drag 10 guys into it, then make an inflammatory post or two pinging me. Fun times.
totes_magotes ago
So you'll be able to help us recover our passwords, right?
Owlchemy ago
Hey, maybe she'll see it and update it - LOL.
TheDude2 ago
We can't change our passwords now, and then they get migrated? What kind of fuckery is this?
10620128? ago
If you're logged in now I think you should be able to change your password. Putt saying "Voat will not assist in password recovery" just means Putt won't be able to respond to thousands of emails requesting access to accounts whose passwords were forgotten.
Try changing your password to something you know, now.
Le_Squish ago
It's going to be a goat Holocaust. I expect much hilarity to ensue.
100011 ago
Oh shit i don't think i remember my password so i guess it's time for a new user name . Any good suggestions Voat here's what i got so far >EscapefromJewyork , Hitler_is_a_Regestred_Democrat , MohammedLovesFaggots
heygeorge ago
You can get a throwaway email account, add it to your Voat account, and do a password recovery if you need.
10620306? ago
@100011 I'm pretty sure that if you're logged in right now you can also just change your password; your current password should be automatically filled in. At least this is the case on some browsers.
MadWorld ago
Everyone can easily get a free temporary protonmail.
Goathole ago
and the book said, "Imma tell all you lil' bitches right now, Voat will not assist in a password recovery." and it was so.
Word came down from the mountain boys, take heed.
MadWorld ago
X-D Then you might want to wipe your browser history and keep your bookmarks clean.
derram ago
noob
MadWorld ago
That's a good habit to keep your accounts and data safe.
NiklausTheNaked ago
That's not strictly true. It may protect you from people using your machine to access your accounts, but potentially makes you more vulnerable to external exploitation.
When you authenticate to a website, you are usually going to do one of three things:
In all three cases, this is secured by HTTPS (unless the website owners are retarded, but we won't get into that). So, what happens in each of these cases if the encryption is broken?
Case 3 is certainly the safest, if you had to pick one. This simple explanation glosses over some of the finer details (ex: how is the encryption broken? is all HTTPS broken, or just a certain set of ciphers? how much of your traffic was recorded? etc.)
MadWorld ago
NiklausTheNaked ago
I've been around for a couple of years, but I don't post that often. I'll try to join in more!
Ding_dong ago
Thank you for naming all the shills in one easy to read post.
10618939? ago
I'm in your hard drive, stealing your ram.
10618929? ago
I'll need your IP address and social security number.
MadWorld ago
:-) I am going to take a wild guess, all your passwords are related.
10618916? ago
Could you repeat that?
Conspirologist ago
Is it possible to recover the password if the email is registered on voat?
heygeorge ago
Yes, that is correct.
Password Recovery Will Work
MadWorld ago
X-D I use a password manager, it can automatically log me in.
10618879? ago
That's easy for me. I use the same password for Voat, my e-mail, my Steam, my Amazon, my Ebay, all other online shops, my PayPal, my Butcoin wallet and everything else, and as it is "password" it is is easy to remember.
THEx1138 ago
That's my password too!
Old-Misogynist ago
Oh no, you use mine, too.
LionElTrump ago
Thank you for the heads up!

Holy crap, thanks!
heygeorge ago
Good for you, I know you have an issue with remembering passwords.
Mick ago
I've changed it now, but I found out it was 'VoatGoatSoapOnARope,' which I would never have guessed in a million years. I wonder wtf I was smoking when I thought that one up.
heygeorge ago
Oh damn, why change it? Lol, new password is *****************.
Also, I bet it was marijuana. You were smoking marijuana.
Mick ago
My new one is 'GeorgeAndMickAreUselessFuckingModeratorsButLikeItThatWay'
heygeorge ago
Thx bro. No worries, I'll take it to my grave.

E: never mind, this comment saved me: https://voat.co/v/announcements/2154006/10618850.
10618803? ago
You don't need your password to link an e-mail while you are logged in. Just link a temporary trash mail account, request password recovery by mail and use that one while discarding the trash mail account.
22jam22 ago
I tried that with two valid emails voat says na that email u been using since 1994 is not valid!
10649340? ago
Just grab a temporary mail account at https://www.trash-mail.com/ or a similar site and feed the password to that.
Orangishlemon ago
I know where I was in 1990. Where were you?
Tipman79 ago
It makes me proud that this is still a thing after so long.
Orangishlemon ago
How do you keep up with all your alts if you aren’t saving the passwords?
SaneGoatiSwear ago
you mean like this openly SJW tranny self-diagnosed autistic named fuzzywords?

the fuck why you didn't thank me
PuttItOut ago
You're welcome.
10618837? ago
aww thanks for the reply buddy <3
UlyssesEMcGill ago
@smallpond perhaps as a token of gratitude for the help you've provided you could ask Putt to reset your karma
smallpond ago
I wouldn't wish to deprive people of their downvotes - if one day the censorship is removed, they won't affect my speaking rights.
Besides, I don't deserve my stage 3 badge and only logged one bug for stage 4. My contribution was very minor.
kneo24 ago
Have an upvoat for being honest and not an autistic asshole for once.
Orangishlemon ago
You learn password management.

@SaneGoatiSwear isn't the sharpest tool in the shed... but he is a tool.
ginx2666 ago
Well, they do say a cunt is a tool for world domination...
lord_nougat ago
Or commit suicide.
GoogleHatesVoat ago
That and learn to never use password services on any system. Want me to remember it and keep you logged in? Fuck no, what do I look like a faggot? Or a feminist? If I cannot remember simple passwords for a few dozen systems what good am I to anyone other than a fucking consumer. No fucking thank you Apple/Microsoft/Globalists.
MadWorld ago
Oh glorious, this is fucking awesome!!! Let's cross the portal together!!!
l_voated_today ago
Its worth making a new account every few months anyways.
v ago
But I like my name :/
0110001111 ago
Avoids someone doxing you from divulging too much info. Once your account gets too big, it becomes easier to piece together info. Not saying its a voat problem, more of a information stream issue
VillaLopez ago
That's my rule of thumb on Reddit. I get tired of the left banning me from commenting common sense.
Le_Squish ago
This is awesome.
I hope golf is back on the menu.

there's an unlimited number of great usernames, so no need to conserve them. burn away I say!
MrPim ago
I always liked the NiggaWatt name.
Subtenko ago
Make it plural and it sounds like cereal

it's a nice name, but 3 months is a long time to stick with one, isn't it? gotta bask in the new account nigger faggotry every so often.
MrPim ago
Im one of us who stick w my name. But I understand why some of us change up every so often.
NeedleStack ago
Papa Putt,
In three words, how have the last few months been during this coding transition? :-D
PuttItOut ago
Three words? You know I'm long-winded when it comes to typing... perhaps a haiku would be more appropriate.
Three-word phrases that I have felt during this process:
10619001? ago
Just a joke, just a joke, just a joke
The worst is behind us!
Probably.
TomTheGeek ago
It's too late, I've already hacked his router using a gui I wrote in VB. You can run, but you can't hide 127.0.0.1!!
TomTheGeek ago
If your browser has the password remembered it's very easy to view it.
GoogleHatesVoat ago
It is one of the easiest exploits, this and saved forms are a gold mine for black hats on the dark web. If you are enjoying the benefits of auto fill forms when you order things online, so is Sasha in Russia. "Da, Americans are so lazy... here is the number comrade, nice it has a 10K USD limit and hardly any balance. Thank you Chase Bank N.A. for underpaying your security team. They are cheaper than vodka. Speaking of which... Nostrovia!"
corpusant ago
Cool beans.
Thanks for the heads up.
Congratulations on the accomplishment. How much in overhead does this transition save?

Super excited to see where Voat goes!
WarTracker1776 ago
See you on the other side bro. Good shit! 👊
Owlchemy ago
Thanks to Putt and all these great goats that helped in this effort. Not being a coder or really into what this entailed, I tried my best to stay out of the way and just keep up the good fight against spammers, while you guys did the work, so don't hate me ... I contributed in a different way ... one I'm more comfortable with. I'm certain all your hard efforts will be worth it! Thanks a bunch!
Mick ago
You dun did good, Owl :)
TheDude2 ago
As a total leech, I appreciate your work.
Owlchemy ago
Ahh. come on, everyone here helps in some way! That's what makes Voat great!
PuttItOut ago
New code has functionality in it that will allow us to respond to spam in a timely fashion. These things are a direct result from the work being done at v/reportspammers and you are instrumental in this effort.
We all play a part.
Techman ago
I've reported stuff to /v/reportspammers before and as far as I am concerned, they were all seemingly ignored...
JohnCStevenson ago
You play a part in spreading hate sites? I see that you're concerned about a big move, but it would be a problem if some groups took down the new site for spreading hate speech. Just something to keep in mind.
10622096? ago
Glad to hear that something very good was able to come from that subverse and that Voat has been able to survive through countless waves of spam to this point in time. Here's to several more years of Voat and true freedom of speech!
Owlchemy ago
Thanks, I enjoy helping since I scan v/all a lot anyway ... but @Cynabuns is the real heroine ... the rest of us key off of her! What an asset.

Notice how many SBBH names are in this list
(PS, ChillyHellion is the bees knees)
Chiefpacman ago
Its true.
Whats the significance? Other than them having too much time on thier hands.
brandon816 ago
Open the accounts listed above. Notice how many of them have at least one of the port tester awards.
Chiefpacman ago
You're out of your element Donnie. No one is saying they didn't help, we find it interesting that so many willing to help are banhammer faggots.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
^
Not sure if I was recruited. There was a post calling for bug reports. Is that recruitment?
Chiefpacman ago
Not sure who you're quoting or what your point is but I wasnt talking about you.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
You obviously were and did, but maybe you have no idea what you say.
brandon816 ago
Okay then, I'll put it bluntly. The opportunity was open to anyone, and announced to the public several times. If others weren't a part of that group, then clearly others didn't give a fuck about Voat's future migration. That's it. Telling about the other groups, but not so much about SBBH.
And who the fuck is Donnie? Clearly I'm missing a reference.
Chiefpacman ago
You know nothing of the Dude?
Yeah I'm aware that a public service call went out. Just because a snake does something nice, doesn't make him less of a snake.
Its worth being pointed out. Not sure why you're taking offense to this, other than being confused on our understanding of how they were recruited by putt.
Mick ago
Well fucking said.
Chiefpacman ago
You mean way to divert the argument.
Mick ago
I'm stopping at 420, faggot.
heygeorge ago
Betch, erma premaben you at 419
10620402? ago
Do it.
heygeorge ago
Lel! Maybe.
Mick ago
Hahaha, bastard :D
Womb_Raider ago
I guess I just find it of particular intrigue that they're worthy of thanks, considering some of these names I've seen blatantly lying to voaters, and knowingly so...
Chiefpacman ago
Funny how so many missed the point there.
No one was questioning the recruitment process, just commenting on how so many 'helpers' belong to a particularly toxic community here on voat.
The responses are mostly irrelevant/ misdirecting the convo
Womb_Raider ago
Yeah, what are you going to do? My favorite was kevdude saying he "has interacted with them" as if he weren't a part of (or perhaps leader of) their crew...
I think they just do whatever they can to win approval from Putt, so that they can terrorize voaters without his interference.
10618984? ago
Everyone on that list are those who received badges for successfully reporting actual bugs on the preview environments. Their posts are public and you can see them in /v/voatdev.
Chiefpacman ago
Yeah I generally distrust them. They rely on eachother for some kind of relevance here, its off putting.
It doesn't help that they're constantly trying to recruit more faggots by blocking/unblocking people to get attention.
Plus I know in the beginning everyone hated them because they were apparently a bunch of reddit power users trying to set up a base here.
Can't trust em.
onikage ago
My personal security policy is that no one can know my password, not even ME!
1ArmedTRex ago
I did that with my first bank account pin when i was young and slighty dumber. Oh what fun.

If it's saved in the browser, this utility (WebBrowserPassView) by NirSoft will show it. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/web_browser_password.html
bonedrone ago
Or one could simply go to browser settings and look it from there...
GoogleHatesVoat ago
Sounds like military level security. You change it every 30 days and you don't write it down anywhere. Even civilians have to follow the protocol when on DoD systems. Hillary would have never survived as a normal citizen soldier, she would have ended up doing push ups until she puked to use secure systems properly. That or sent off to federal prison. Following the rules is just not her style, she's a thug after all.
AnechoicMedia ago
Thankfully, NIST no longer recommends mandatory password changes as best practice, because time isn't the enemy of passwords and people fall back to using crap stub passwords that they iterate on.
variable ago
There were some depositions of IT from her tenure as secretary of state that described how they tried to get her a computer in her office, but they couldn't make it meet her needs because she couldn't remember passwords or use her email through the secure system. They ended up giving her an entire area on the floor so that she could use her coveted blackberries to access her emails in the non-secure area. Just completely bananas.
AssaultMonkey ago
However, to reset your password for a US military system (at least in my day) all you needed was your birthdate, maybe your SSN, and your name. I never bothered to remember any passwords because resetting them was just as easy.
squataclops ago
Hah I remember doing exactly that pretty much every time I had to log in for anything AKO related. I was an infantry medic though so luckily didn't have to do much on computers.
count_fagula ago
This is a complete and utter bollocks security policy. What's more secure, a series of Password1!, Password2! derivatives or a tough fucker like Chek2frecAl+ that you choose ONCE? At least NIST agrees with me now
BTW, the password above was generated by apg on Linux, probably there are Windows apps for pronouncable-password generation too. Can't be arsed to look for them at the moment though.
jakedp ago
"For quick background, The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce."
I think I will change it once a month with apg and then put it in a text file encrypted with GPG, thank you. ;-)
BobBelcher ago
Not only that, but one system I had to use, remembered the last five passwords and wouldn't let you reuse one. The password also had to be a min of 16 chars with at least 2 lowercase, 2 uppercase, 2 special chars, and 2 numbers. But it wasn't a 30 day change, I think it was 60 or 90 days. I used keyboard patterns, and then reversed them, then started using my name with extra padding, then reversed that.
Rontog ago
The embassy that I used to work at has this same policy but you don't get to choose your password though. When it comes time to change it you get a choice of 9 unpronounceable passwords to choose from.
L_Etranger ago
Until the plain text DB gets compromised. But that's more a reason to not reuse passwords.
ThatsThat ago
That's why it is best practice to not store the passwords, but salted hashes of them.
L_Etranger ago
No shit. The salt is good to protect you from rainbow tables. But you don't control other sites' security practices and many don't do it well.
MadWorld ago

How long do people go without clearing their cookies? God damn.
sbt2160p ago
Why would I clear my cookies? That sounds very inconvenient. What benefits would I realise by doing this?
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Not being tracked across the internet by anyone interested? *not a technical description

I'm a filthy phone poster, so never.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
You got that right.

Every time I close a Tab, self destruct cookies.
Edit: also my history is cleared after every session... no pun intended.
Tsilent_Tsunami ago
Man, my sessions tend to last for several months until my 30-40 tabs crash my system. Installed session buddy after the last time, so we'll see how this goes.
ZX4jBXu ago
Anther ago
I used to run my browser like that too. But in the end it drove me crazy. Now I’m slightly less extreme, but still VPN when it matters.
ZX4jBXu ago
Once you get used to "roughin' it" online it's not that bad but you're right, it's certainly not for everybody.
10618426? ago
More importantly, why don't the SID cookies for Voat expire within a reasonable timeframe? In my browser it looks like it's valid for a month.
