The Federal Reserve is a government agency. The Federal Reserve BANKS are quasi-private.

Sure it's a federal agency. That's the trick. You create an agency via an act of Congress to give control of the monetary supply to PRIVATE bankers.

It is legit. There are some valid criticisms of centralized banking but the reality is they have a long history of hundreds of years of successfully dealing with issues that were a problem before they existed. There's a reason pretty much every successful state does it - because it works. Is it possible that we could do better? Of course, but people who think it's all a giant scam are idiots.
