In contrast to arguments that SBBH is magically held to a different standard than other subverses, I posit: The primary purpose of SBBH is for amusement.

SBBH is primarily and ultimately a send-up of the greater Voat community, and a place to:

“Post whatever is on your mind. WDGAF” or “Take a break from the serious side of Voat.”

It’s part of the intrinsic fabric of v/SoapboxBanhammer to flagrantly abuse the moderator position, and has been from its inception. @Mick didn’t title it v/freepoliticaldisc, after all.

The mods of SBBH typically temper this farcical abuse of power by lifting bans quickly and frequently inviting members of all walks of Voat to become mods if they express enough interest.

So let me see if I get your logic: You deleting comments in a public facing subverse, not authoritarian. Us asking you to stop, authoritarian.

The logic I see is a bunch of people who don't have any control over how Voat works, but who obviously think they should, are only asking me to stop and doing a boring and monotonous public service of trying to guide people to the right place when they appear lost. Like I said, win/win.

I think so. I don't really see any problem.

I don't think voat has enough traffic for there to be a good reason to have people reposting content to different subs, but there's a handful of users who have been doing it for a long time.

Like I said, if you have some authoritarian need to control what other people do and it just means less effort for me I don't see the issue.

Ignoring comments sounds like a win/win because I don't need to exert any effort, fine by me if that's all it takes for you overly-sensitive types.

So imagine if you had a notebook and were writing notes and every person on the street walked up, took your notebook, and scribbled whatever they wanted before handing it back to you.

Then go into subverse settings and raise the minimum ccp to downvote. Points won't accrue and you can delete whatever the fuck you want because the conversation no longer shows up in v/all so it is out of the public domain.

This is not tenable because there are people subscribed who wish to consume the content. It's nothing more than a continuation of my "what you missed on Voat today" threads in a significantly easier way. People who browse /v/all can block the subverse if it offends them, I see no further action necessary on my part at this time and am beholden to no one as to what I do and do not remove in the pursuit of my own documentation.

Good! That's literally the entire point of me linking directly to the comments section of the post in the first place. I'm trying to get them to put their feedback there, to bring further dialogue to the now fully necro'd submission. This is why I will continue to remove the comments from people who talk to me in an area none of those people already having a discussion will never see.

I'm not going to engage them there because I don't generally hold a strong opinion about the subject I'm linking to. If I do, it's already in that thread where it belongs and they can reply to me there for engaging me.

Keeping comments in the sub unrelated to the conversation I am trying to highlight is counter-intuitive and you're suggesting I shouldn't bother at all which is the goddamn point because I created it as a private archive and thus don't want people to engage me in it in the first place but sure won't limit them from insulting me as long as their content isn't clearly meant for the discussion in the original thread.

I am only deleting it when someone is saying something to the OP.. of the thread I'm linking. As in, commenting on the content thinking I wrote it instead of someone else. Maybe you're not understanding this properly. If I linked to a thread you wrote, and someone came into my submission and commented to me instead of you, what purpose would that hold? Wouldn't YOU want them to post in yours, where they were have a higher odd of you actually seeing it, if they were talking to you?

No, it's that I can't either make the subverse private or turn comments off, and it exists for a specific purpose so the only recourse I have when people don't use it for that purpose is to remove the comment. This is a case where reality trumps your optics argument, and that's in a world where I care about optics in the first place.

Your submissions show up in v/all which makes them visible to Voat at large. Therefore the discussion is public domain. If you wish to censor comments take your subverse out of the public domain by raising the minimum CCP needed to downvote.

So? They're linking to posts hours old with usually less than 10 total views. The entire reason I am doing this is to revitalize conversation in those threads, and I hold no authority there so there is nothing stopping someone from clicking the blue text and then commenting in the public area. My subverse is my own private archive. If someone wants to comment in there they are more than welcome to do so, as is evident by the comments that exist already. It's only when someone posts something "on-topic" in the wrong place that I will remove it. Period.

Why? The subverse was created as a private research archive. It specifically says in the side bar that comments about the linked threads belong in the linked threads. I do not care what the person says in the research subverse, but if they post it in the research subverse when it was a comment of the linked submission then it's going to be removed. I see no reason why this isn't acceptable behavior, if someone is offended by this they can just block the subverse and move on I won't adjust my archive for the preferences of a bunch of children on the Internet - so why are you demanding I do so?

Nothing is stopping anyone from commenting in the thread itself, and that is the entire point of what I am doing in the first place for whoever is similarly curious in the threads I am linking and wishes to subscribe.
