Right, becuase looking for one thing automatically always means I'm some other thing.

nobody cares. insect.

Instead of getting angry, why don't you just archive some of your posts, so it doesn't look like you are pushing traffic for those sites? Is that so hard? Use archive.is.

Calling card of the shills.

le asshole

As if somehow that's an argumentative statement, especially when it's not followed by anything to substantiate it.

Again, see above.

At no point did they attempt to address anything you wrote. I've long stopped caring if I wrangle up normal users anymore. They need to learn to acting like the enemy is not okay.

@kneo24, you were the one who made me all aware of this. I remember a few months ago, you made a post like: "why are there always the same people on the front page?" My name was one of the ones you pinged (i.e. one of the guilty). I started looking at who consistently hits the front page and started reading the posts about it on protectvoat. I started watching these accounts more carefully. None of these people are archiving anything. None of these people make discussion posts. You'll find they post direct tracking links/referral links.

My pointing out @kobold's submission history has zero to do with whether I support big pharma (which I personally don't but that's irrelevant). Notice he doesn't respond to my suggestion to archive.

But since the q invasion (perhaps ealier?), there have been a lot of changes on voat, and it's not for the better. I still have a general idea of who the real users are here, but you'll notice the system subs are starting to get more and more of a plebbit feel to them as time passes.

eat shit and die fuckface

I remember. I have no problems admitting to snagging a few innocent people along the way, but like I said, I've long stopped caring about whether or not I do. It's good to see that at least you're being aware and looking into to it. I just don't have the energy to dig deeply like the rest of you are doing. You're doing good work.

shadow332 ago

I wasn't offended at all. You're going to get false positives and I think it's good because at the same time you are making people aware of what's going on. But here's the thing: people like @offender and @Splooge and the others are doing the legwork, so they find these sketchy accounts networked here just made to push traffic on websites... what is anyone going to do about it? I'm not trying to be demotivating, but what can we do about it? It's shit, it's cluttering up the smaller subverses, anything OC or discussion based gets buried by these mass posters. I don't feel like making the effort anymore to do discussion posts. I know no one cares but it's a shame.

Splooge ago

Just throwing my two cents in here: there's nothing to be done, at least not on an administrative (or generally mass) level.

Posting these accounts and calling out "bad" content/users, to me, serves only one purpose effectively -- getting readers to be responsible and skeptical.

Since Voat is a platform where virtually anything goes, you can't maintain such a platform without a certain amount of clutter and crap users/bots. If you start instituting bans and stuff, that leads to a slippery slope.

So the only thing that can be done effectively is educating as many goats as possible that these things exist, so when they see the attractive headlines or whatever they don't just blindly upvoat and accept whatever's spoon fed to them.

Knowing these practices exist is supposed to make you more skeptical, to prompt you to do your own verifying. At least that's what it is for me.

shadow332 ago

Those are greats points. This is an anything goes place, as you said, so you're going to get the good with the bad. My only worry is the danger that it will become overrun or flooded with the bad leaving hardly any real users anymore, like plebbit. But I guess that means, we'll just migrate elsewhere!
