Staff Anon works in DC. This person isn't a big wig, but is easily a fly on the wall telling us about strange things that has happened the last few day that we don't normally know about. This person talked about the parking lot being blocked off on Friday and not socializing and abnormal meetings. If you get a chance, it's not big news, but it gives us the feeling that things are happening.

First off, thanks for all the death threats, it really makes me enjoy sharing information with a group I truly considered my community.

Second, senior staffers were passing out sealed boxes of printed memos for the 8am meetings. Part of my illustrious career here on the Hill is opening mail! That's why I get paid the big bucks and get to hold on to the letter opener.

It appears that they are tightening the rules on social media sharing on staffers. We didn't really have any before, it was just common sense - but people have been fired for oversharing stuff before (someone on my team was fired for sharing a photo of a work calendar on her instagram), and it's surprisingly easy to track because all of these idiots use the House wifi which is basically just recording everything done on it from every phone and laptop (she was busted by IT an hour after posting, so they totally watch the wifi) - that's well known, hence why I only use my work laptop and keep my phone wifi turned off - still probably getting recorded though using 4G in DC.

Anyways, no more unauthorized devices on the wifi, so work laptops and work phones only, if you get that perk. And, they're going to start blocking some websites and limiting access to things like twitter and facebook - I noticed on my work laptop that several sites are already down, mostly forums and social stuff. It's all worded like an attempt to make people more productive, but it really seems like it's all about stopping leaks or something. We're also going to have to sign some social media agreement that says we can lose our jobs if we fuck around on social media - probably includes what I'm telling all of you right now ... oops.

As I was writing this on my phone, my coworker got out of the quick 7:30 meeting and seemed all bummed, she told me they are limiting vacation time for the next two weeks (the real 10 Days of Darkness/Sadness I think) unless pre-approved and they told her to read the memo about internet use because they'll be very serious about enforcing it. They're actually threatening to fire people, which doesn't happen often.

One big perk of being a staffer is getting to leave your car in secure Hill parking for free over the weekend if you fly home to see your family. Since pretty much all of us live in the horrible neighborhoods around Capitol Hill, it's nice to leave your car in a safe place other than the side of a street where it will get destroyed or vandalized.

This morning I went to drop my car off so I could metro to Reagan and Secret Service had the entrance blocked off and told me the lot was closed, which is VERY unusual because it's open 24/7 and I haven't seen it shut, even on Christmas day, the whole time I've been here.

No idea what it means, but the SS was telling people to get lost and not the Hill police which would be standard. The staffer text chain was FILLED with lots of WTF is going on. I didn't see anything outside of the SS stopping people though, at least nothing unusual.

This is on top of a notice on Friday that our email will be down from Saturday night at 8pm to Sunday morning at 8am for some sort of update, but I've never seen anything like that before.

I work in the House for a Republican member and typically everyone gets along in the house on a staff level no matter what side you're on. We all eat together, hang out after work, play nice and do our work because most of us are just young staffers getting experience. But, since Tuesday it has been VERY different. We were told in whispers to stay around the office and not socialize as much for the next week by an older staffer from the Senate. And it's not just my team, it's everybody. I popped into the cafeteria to get food and the place was all tourists.

I don't know if there is any connection or people know something is coming that will be decisive. We all know about Q, but never openly discuss them because it's labeled kooky or whatever and we have to be "official."

Last night I went to the normal hangout place we go to and it was dead, last Thursday it was standing room only. Something is definitely coming down the pipeline that has people freaked out.
