I used to, but now I’ve evolved to not even starting to type the comment. My favorite places to comment are in abstract discussions where I can talk to other smart people about challenging topics that people I talk to irl find too boring. 9 out of 10 times, I learn something huge while typing the comment. I’ll either answer my own question or realize that my answer to someone else’s question isn’t based on evidence, and find myself looking stuff up. Some posts or comments can take me over an hour to write. It’s really surprising just how much you can learn from writing, even to yourself in a plain text document.

I suppose the socratic method would work, getting people to ask questions themselves. From an ego perspective they're satisfied, because they aren't in a position of inferiority when you confront them. But I find it hard to actually kick start that process to get people to start questioning things.

That’s actually a really good habit to get into. Especially if your musician or somebody that is very passionate and or drinks or smokes etc. Write something that you really think is great, then sit on it for a day or two to make sure it holds up. When I was a music producer are used to tell every artist that. Because I could make them sound fantastic with reverb and delay and compression that sort of thing. But I always encourage them to wait a day or two and listen back because they’re caught up in the moment.
