Aether is more like a better place for a discussion forum than HTTP. It is purpose built for anonymity and to avoid hostile control and censorship. It is sure worth a try.
If you are born in Turkey and a brilliant young programmer, do you not think your head might be turned when Google offer you a job in The Bay? Come on, man! :) Also, his nature is filled with peace and I think it is his way of removing violence and conflict from the world. He is amazing. Definitely try Aether, you will understand why I recommend it so.
Well you were doing a good job to begin with by auditing the people involved in the project, which is a beginning. Burak is a very humble, calm, reasoned person. I think you would like him if you met.
The Bay Area is the World capital of Silicon Valley. Where do you think most of the best software engineers are going to be? Why do you think Burak actually left those companies?! You should take a look at what Goats are saying on Aether right now. I think you would be rather surprised. Burak is brilliant.

If people are desperate to cling onto the old ways of trying and failing to build a community on a house of http sand then the best option is: https://notabug.io
That is built by a Goat, @go1dfish and is familiar in appearance and usage to Voat. It works well, but anything on http like that is centralized and that is precarious. Another option would be https://searchvoat.co
I hope that goats discuss the fundamental issue of trying to build on the wrong (i.e. http) platform and say enough of it and do the sensible thing.
Great question! It works on GNU+Linux, Windows or Mac. A main focus of recent development has been packaging Aether, so if that continues, hopefully it will be available on phones soon.
Aether is best for Linux users. Consider moving to Linux (UBUNTU or or Ubuntu Studio if you have a nice/high-end PC), which you can install with a dual-boot with an already installed Windows OS. It's not for tech noobs, however. If you're not comfortable with tweaking and fixing Windows then Linux can be very challenging. But give it a try. Can't hurt.
Aether isn't widely known. Maybe you have anti virus software which doesn't know Aether and tries to block its installation. Aether connects to the internet, a bit like your browser or a teleconference application, so that might be being blocked by a firewall, though it does well most of the time. When you launch Aether, it takes a while to sync with the consensus, but after a minute or a few minutes, it is up to date. Check the lghts on it, do they turn green? Did you download a recent version? Keep trying, its worth it! :)
Haha! Yes, that is the first impression most people have. One reason is that it is very siloed. People really nerd out putting content into their own subverse, so you need to sub to a lot of subverses to find the new content. Also, content posted onto Aether, at the moment anyway, is less traffic and higher quality. Also the actively posting community there is smaller, more lurkers, though it has been going a good while.
Try posting some content and introduce yoursefl in the /b/Sandbox.
If you have any questions, I will be happy to try and answer. Please post them here.
Why should you use Aether?
Aether is distributed. It isn't a single point of failure choice like another http site and it doesn't have a single owner as the software and protocol is released under a Free licence.
Why haven't we heard of Aether before?
A policy decision was made to let Aether grow organically rather than by advertising, as that would likely lead to a great community. This policy has worked well.
Where is Aether?
Aether is reached by a client which you download and install. The client is released under the GPL and you can audit and change the code as you see fit. Client based communities are the way forward, as they are decentralized and can't readily be blocked by Big Tech or censored. The Aether client lets you browse posts on its blockchain. I have used the client about a couple of years and haven't had any problem with it.
How is it different from Voat?
It is active. You can create any sub you like, for example there is one called /b/Voat. You could create one called /b/tickle if you liked. If somebody had already created /b/tickle, you could create another community with the same name. People could choose one or both subs to join. You can impeach and boot out moderators of subs through community voting. There are no dominating power mods. Posts are ephemeral. They disappear from view after 6 months, though remain on the blockchain.
Protips?
Check out the /b/lookatmynewsub to keep up to date with new subs. Also, when you search for subs, remember to scroll to the bottom and click the "search NSFW subs " too. Sub to /b/Voat, post something. Say hello.
It is a high priority goal for Aether. This year we had several new packages made available for different platforms. By the way things are going, I would say 2021 3rd quarter, maybe sooner.
You don't know how much fun it is for me to see Goats over on Aether. It is a joy to behold.

Mod problem potential. A client separate from web browser and it looks like discord. I have no idea its resource usage. Block chains are not private information, they're a publicly verifiable ledger.
Aether has a great solution for moderation. If you and sufficient numbers of other users in the subverse object to the moderator, you can impeach them/vote them out of their position as a moderator. Also, there is no point trying to become a "power mod" of a popular subverse, like /b/Politics for example, as somebody else can create a subverse with the exact same name, /b/Politics, and then other users will tend to post to the sub with the best content there.
Aether runs in a client, yes. It is a well made client.
In Aether preferences, you can set the resources you wish to allow, like storage. It uses about half a Gig of RAM and occasionally 1% of CPU something like that.
Your concerns are valid, and by the sound of it you would greatly appreciate the knowledgeable nerd community already there in Aether so take a look. Also, if you run GNU+Linux, you can install Aether sandboxed in an AppImage, for greater protection.
I am not sure what that test is but I think it would pass that test. I think it would depend on which sub you tried. There are a lot of kind of nerds there and they aren't redpilled.
Aether just had a big new release. It looks much the same but there have been a lot of quality of life improvements and images are visible if you like too. The community there is quite focused in their own subs so if you aren't subscribed to most or all of them, you might miss a lot of content. I can't think of a better place for Voat's community right now. An enduring home.
