And I'm honestly not sure what to think of it. To me, it feels like the messages being portrayed there aren't organic. Maybe I'm too cynical about these types of things, but I constantly see the same few names day after day, - the second page isn't any better, mostly the same names again. I know some of these names are staples here on Voat as people believe to be "trusted users", but I honestly don't give a shit. We reject the mainstream media for the same reason, being fed inorganic messages, having narratives pushed upon us to be led around like sheep. I don't care if I'm wrong about some of these users or any of these users, as any time an honest discussion is ever had about it, it becomes largely ignored.
Really, I understand where the "there's only maybe 100 real users on Voat" comments come from. It's because of things like this. We keep telling ourselves and each other that we're somehow better than "the others" while seemingly falling for the same things they fall for, just with different narratives.
Is this website Voat? or is it the @tendiesonfloor, @dietcokehead1, @fluxusp, @shadow332, @tobyfox_undertale show? (I'd ping more, but you know, only 5 pings work at a time.) I know other Voat users exist who are rarely on the front page of Voat, who have SCP in the 30k to 50k range, and almost never show up on the front page. They seem like legitimate users because they tend to stick to their subverses which tend to be niche and much smaller, but post often in there trying to grow their communities. The one user I pinged, 9 days, over 1k SCP. Looking through the second page, I see other users with a low time frame here - less than 6 months, but tons of SCP. That doesn't seem organic to me. Not enough of us are questioning this.
(And yes, I realize I could block every single one of those users and the one subverse, but that only helps me, not the rest of the community where my larger concern is at.)
Let's have that discussion. Let's clear the air. Voaters, do you actually mind this? Does this concern you? Do you trust those users? Is there something fishy going on? Am I and others who call these things out being overly paranoid? If we're not being overly paranoid, how is this any different from any other discussion forum and link congregator? If we believe ourselves to be better as a whole, how is this any different?

Yeah, I have a similar opinion.
One time u/goathole suggested we up the SCP minimum from 100 to 200. Then I made u/goathole200racer and got that in like 24 hrs.
Here's the thing: if you're having to post content voat likes, you've helped voat. If you go afterwards and use that for ill, that's a shame, but that's how life goes.
Posting content voat likes that isn't real is at least as damaging as posting truthful content voat likes so you can eventually undermine us.

I think it's a good sign that a relatively new account like mine can get onto the front page, so long as the content is popular with other users. Some of us delete our accounts every so often as part of opsec, so we lose whatever points we "earn" anyway. Points don't matter, spreading information does.

I’m thinking maybe those are just really active users, and so over time they become a “favorite” among users. It may become more of a popularity thing, where people start upvoting the person, over the content.
I think I need to get better about using my downvotes. I usually only use downvotes for shills, assholes, or really bad posts.

It's possible and not entirely unheard of. If I wanted to push narratives, I'd work the long game first, gain the trust of the community, fit in, and do my thing and make it look organic. Anything I found important I'd have some sort of upvote brigade happening to give it traction. It's still not uncommon for posts with little comments and some SCP coming in to hit the front page. You all would largely be none the wiser. It's easier to do it here since Putt is largely nowhere to be seen and there's no real administrative oversight going on here. A consensus would be manufactured towards issues I wanted you all to take note of.
That's also possible with users who have been here a while and I'm "over the target" so to speak.

People upvote anything if it fits their worldview - the truth is irrelevant. If you're lucky, you might find discussion about whether or not something is accurate within the comments, and by then it's too late as something has well over 100 upvotes for any downvoting and to matter. You combine this with the mentality that we don't downvote things here on Voat, and it's less likely that things will get downvoted.
It's quite easy to game the community here and that is where my concern lies. Are we being gamed? If so, for what benefit? Voat shouldn't be afraid to be introspective. If some of the targets along the way are the wrong targets by trying to discuss these things, then so be it.

I'll be a little bit more clear. I see users with unusually high SCP (and sometimes CCP) posting things that the greater Voat community would agree with, often ending up on the front page. I personally think it's a good idea to question whether or not we're being gamed, and if so, for what purpose.
I really should stop responding to myself though, as people might already think I'm more crazy than I really am.
