Child Protective Services here doesn't do much in my experience (as a child whose home hosted them frequently). They look around, see the Texas Chainsaw-style neglect and abuse, and say, Yup! Everything looks good! Sorry we bothered you!

No. I've heard that story before. Child abuse is a serious crime. Anyone who is engaging in porn needs to take that seriously. If they don't question and research the age, then they are responsible cause nobody else is forcing them to click on the buttons. The problem is that it's so addictive that the little head clicks without the big head engaging any brains or common sense. No point in shifting the responsibility. If a guy wants to engage then they need to take whatever consequences and results come. Don't do the crime if you don't want to do the time, but don't blame somebody else for something they need to take adult responsibility for. Anybody who doesn't have enough self control or brains to notice that their viewing someone who looks like a teen should put a porn block on their computer. aaaah, but that would cause problems for the addiction.

That said, unpopular opinion time. Possession and viewing of child porn shouldn't be a crime that will land you in jail for the following reasons.

1. Child porn is a weapon. With the capabilities of our intelligence agencies child porn can be planted and then "found" on your computing devices to put you away for a very long time.

2. I'd rather have a pedo jerking it to child porn than inviting kids into his van. The damage is already done, what is the point in punishing someone that is mitigating their degenerate desires through this?

Don't get me wrong, the people that view this type of content are fucking degenerates and have a special place in hell. At most I think they should be chemically castrated. On the other hand, production of the content should be punishable by death.
