I didn't start a new thread for this because the mods would probably delete it, but John Dubois, the Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay, Florida, allowed a pedophile who sexually abused at least three children to stay in his house for two months, because the man (Stanley "Junior" Kowlessar) was a family friend of his. He also held a fund-raising barbecue to help pay for Kowlessar's defense. Despite the scandal, he was re-elected in November.
