So Chris and his friends left here just a little while ago. And here I am all drunk and my girlfriend doesn't drink, and its late and she's in bed so I really dont want to bother her so I decide to go in back and make some noise, and crank up the guitar and just play it. So I went and cranked it up and was jamming away when my son came home and he stopped on his way through and listened to what I was playing here. I thought maybe it was cause he liked what he heard, but when I stopped playing and asked him he told me that it was fucking loud as fuck and he could hear me playing before he even got out of his car when he got home. So I went in to the house and asked my woman if she could hear it, and she said she didn't hear a thing. How sweet is that? I get to play as loud as I want to while she's in bed and she doesn't hear a thing. Thats so fucking cool, to me. I love to play some loud fucking guitar. I dont even play songs. I just play notes that sound good to my ears at the time. Like this, this is what I do when I'm drunk and my friends have gone home
LoL Went to sleep actually. I wasn't that drunk, just drunk enough to where I felt great, for some reason I had a lot to say. Man that whiskey made me talk, after Chris and his friend left I went upstairs and talked my sons ear off a few times between playing guitar loud as hell. But man, I tell you what, I am a lucky man, I woke up and theres this super gorgeous sweet woman here greeting me with the warmest smile, god she's so sexy that my mind just automatically goes to damn, I want her.
You know how I said I was a lucky man, well right after I wrote that last paragraph to you, she came in here with nothing on but a t-shirt, then she announced that she had nothing on but that t-shirt and headed for the bedroom. LoL That's an invitation I could not refuse
I even remembered a few basic chords but boy were my fingers slow to find them. Anyway, I noticed the string height differs from head to the body end. Not a huge amount but noticeable. I see no adjustments, either on the bridge or tension rod. Is this something that can be easily adjusted or is it fine the way it is? I mean, it's not like it's going to make a lot of difference at my basic level. Also the strings may need to be replaced as I have no idea how old these are. Not even sure it's need.
I've set a goal to learn From he Beginning to at least a passable degree. Fairly simple and approachable. We'll see how long my interests hold out.
There's an adjustable truss rod in the neck. Don't actually adjust it, but it is there if you want to risk it.
With that, you can adjust the bend in the neck and adjust the action. This is, of course, not something I would recommend unless you know what you are doing.
So, you can learn to adjust it, or you can just play it as it is.
Unstring it all see if the bow straightens after a few days. Then, string it with light strings, spending no less than $10 and no more than $20 on new strings.
I am now on mobile. I have a baby. She's going to sleep soon. I can tell.
I may cheat and stay awake - and then just wake the baby up for food, amusement, and a changing. Then, she'll hopefully resume sleeping fairly quickly and sleep for a while.
She sleeps better than her mother did at this age.
We are staying in tonight. I'm gonna babysit while my daughter goes to see a movie and, presumably, shags her husband.
We were going to do dinner, but I don't really feel like going out and I've had just enough wine that driving is not a responsible thing to do - and definitely isn't a responsible thing to do with EH and the baby in the car.
Probably none of them, but I am not sure. I have only ever been deported from Canada (many years ago, and now they have to let me in 'cause I'm a citizen).
I am an American, but I was able to use my heritage to secure citizenship in Canada. My tribe is from Canada, so I secured enough points and passed the test to become a naturalized citizen of Canada. I don't reside there, but I do own property there - as it was an easy, available option to get enough points to apply for citizenship.
Yeah, that's what I meant, geographically. There's no highway heading straight to canada from you, didnt you and some drunken Opie get a truck stuck on the border?
This FNGT is going strong here for a Saturday night, here I am talking with you and trasheconomy and cof all in the FNGT 24 hours after you opened it! Thats a first
LOL The baby already woke up, ate, got changed, and went back to sleep.
I'm on a bad movie kick. I pick a pirate streaming site and watch whatever looks even remotely interesting - usually with the goal being mindless plots and a bunch of wanton slaughter and destruction. So, I am watching a Van Damme movie next.
I just watched Replicant, which was actually not as terrible as I was expecting. I think I am gonna watch it in the bedroom. I can just hook the laptop to the TV.
That was a recording from many years ago. I practiced that 100's of times, and that recording was the only one I hit close. Work and life cut my cord from music, and I miss it. I guess now I crave it, and that's why I shared it.
This is a cool version of a classic! Sounds like you've got a drum machine and some effects going... Care to sum up? I'd love to hear about what you've got going on here.
Lets see, Chris is playing an acoustic six string that has no jack so theres just a mic in front of him at the guitar level and he is singing into a different mic. I'm playing electric guitar, and I doubled my electric guitar track and the second track I did a pitch shift an octave down. We had a drum track running from a casio keyboard. Now since we were playing this live in my music room here the sound from the drums and my guitar and Chris singing naturally bled into the mic that was in front of Chris acoustic guitar. So my guitar sound is effected by that as you get my guitar straight into the recorder, plus the sound of it coming out of the speakers, plus the pitch effect i threw in there to fill out the sound
The one thing I didn't mention is that song took us probably twenty takes to play as we would fuck up before we got to the end so many times. I played bass sometimes, acoustic guitar some times, I was only playing the electric guitar cause my fingers were getting worn out playing all those notes on the bass or the super high action acoustic guitar. If we hadn't screwed up so many times on this one it would have sounded different
Haha! I've played that song SO many times.. I actually screwed it up a few weeks ago at a Ceilidh and completely shocked myself. I can usually play this one forwards and backward drunk or sober.
Thank you sir! I need to check and see if we have any decent footage from the cruise. The stage, lighting, and sound crew there were fantastic right up until the last night when I think they were all hungover. I think overall it was the most lucrative gig I've ever played considering that we really only played 13 songs over the course of 5 nights, and they provided our fiddle player!

Yep! It's an outdoor stage at a resort shopping center. They've been very good to us over the years. This time around, they said, 'You've put together a great St. Patrick's program, and now a great Pirate program.. What else have you got??'
Well I got nothing this week, I made the mistake of changing the strings on my guitar and now I don't even want to touch it, it sounds and feels disgusting. Hopefully by next week its back to sounding and feeling good again.
On an electric they don't bother me, but on an acoustic they always sound really tinny and it just doesn't feel right until you get some finger oils all over it and stretch them out real good.
I think they are good strings too just not ready to use yet, they are some some ernie ball earthwood 80/20's, the only strings I've ever used that don't require a long break in on an acoustic are DR's coated strings like the black beauties.(I should have just got black beauties)
I absolutely hate them, the 2nd week or so they usually fade into what I like. Too me too bright doesn't sound like how an acoustic is supposed to sound so I get a feeling of disassociation. To me really bright strings sound like an acoustic played through an amp(which I hate more then anything)
I'd rather hear a mic'd up acoustic any day then an acoustic with a pickup and preamp in it.
Restringing and tuning did remind me of a little hack I use that I rarely mention but a perfectionist like you might find useful sometimes, I always detune my B string just a bit, I tune it accurate but then I drop it about 1/8th or so. The reason I do it is every guitar in the world is flawed, if you play a double stop chord on the B and G strings (like both strings at one fret 9-9 or 7-7 or whatever) there's always a warble like it's out of tune[try it you'll see], dropping the B string just a bit corrects that and isn't noticable when chording or doing other things(maybe I do a slight bend to compensate) but it makes your guitar sound way better on the high end.
LOL Pretty much nothing I own has strings with two weeks of playing on them. I can change strings in an insanely quick manner. I love me my string winder.
I don't mind the work of changing strings I just hate new strings, on the good side though I think I'm buying a new acoustic in the near future, I have it narrowed down to a couple different ones, I'm either thinking of a Dean with a quilt ash top or a Seagull with a cedar top https://imgtc.ws/a/exfA58D
The Dean I want for price point and looks mostly. I like Deans electric guitars a lot though and if my electric guitar ever broke I'd replace it with a dean. But that quilt ash burly top of gorgeous and I like the headstock a lot.
The seagull on the otherhand is all about nostalgia, it was my first guitar when I was 12 years old, it's got a magical tone and plays as comfortable as a strat.
Canadian made is a bonus too, but I'm afraid if I bought one now it won't live up to the one I had 25 years ago and that would disappoint me.
The acoustic I currently play is a really nice Martin clone made by Cortez(now Cort) in the 70's in Japan. It's a damn fine guitar but it's got issues so I think I'm due for a new one, I'll always have and use this one too,.but one of the machineheads is bent a bit, and the bridge is cracked and glued back together right in the center where the string holes are.
Mines a clone of a D-28 and I think it's a pretty good clone I know it's not the original but it's a damn nice guitar. but the exact specs of the D-28 like exact everything except the martin name. Even the headstock is the same size and shape
I got this guitar like I got paul only many years earlier, it was a yard sale find and it's hard to find info on them, apparently they were a japanese company that made clones of popular american guitars in the 60's and 70's and everywhere I've seen gives them great reviews and then over the years they moved to korea and changed their name to Cort[sounds gross Cortez was cool] and now I guess they sell entry level mass produced guitars.
Ya but someone was rough with it, the tuners all bent up, I could easily buy new tuners but these ones are really really good, they hold tune forever, I never tune my guitar, I might tune a string every couple weeks if something bugs me and maybe tune the whole thing every 3 months. With the new strings I've been tuning daily and abusing the hell out of them, but normally I'm big on tuning.
I wrote a song a while back. Its called 'Nigger Doorbell" and plays on the fact niggers wont get out of the car to ring a doirbell, choosing to just honk instead.
Wondering if someone would be interested in putting it to music.
Hey everybody! Last Saturday my friend Chris came over and we jammed a sea shanty. MrHarryReems should enjoy this, as well as the rest of you. Way Hey Up She Rises
Man alive I was trying to find the chords while you guys played so I could play along and these lyrics popped into my head: "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip. That started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship. The mate was a mighty sailor's man, the skipper brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day on a fateful island tour."
Oh damn, that's great! I love me a good sea shanty. I couldn't help but think, as I listened along, that Verle would have made a terrible sailor. Or, quite possibly, the best sailor of all time. I couldn't quite decide either way, lol.
Lol, yeah, I know. I just couldn't help thinking of Verle upon hearing that based on the Verle I have constructed in my mind based on what I know of him. Plus, I'm pretty stoned. Chris sung that really fucking well.
The song shares its tune with the traditional Irish folk song "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile" (Irish pronunciation: [ˈoːɾˠoː ʃeː d̪ˠə ˈvʲahə walʲə], English: "Oh-ro welcome home"), possibly a Jacobite song, as the traditional version mentions Séarlas Óg ("Young Charles" in Irish), referring to Bonnie Prince Charlie and dating the song to the third Jacobite rising of 1745-6.[1][2] The tune appears as number 1425 in George Petrie's The Complete Collection of Irish Music (1855) under the title Ó ro! ’sé do ḃeaṫa a ḃaile (modern script: Ó ro! ’sé do bheatha a bhaile) and is marked “Ancient clan march.” It can also be found at number 983 (also marked “Ancient Clan March”) and as a fragment at number 1056, titled Welcome home Prince Charley.[3] "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile" was often sung by the Irish Volunteers during the Easter Rising, but with different, non-sectarian lyrics composed by Pádraig Pearse.
It is amazing to think of it that way, those feelings can be transported far into the future and be felt by people who were not even alive when they were originally felt by the artist who shared their feelings, it's amazing to me
I have a page of sheet music for piano that I have tried to have somebody play. It is from my great, great, great grandfather. He was a composer in Austria and reportedly could play every instrument in the orchestra. Several people said they would try it but so far no one has done so. I had people say it is rather difficult to play. I just would like to hear what it sounds like for that same connection with blood through the centuries.
Never heard that one before but it sounded real good. It's not punk if there isn't at least a little slop, anyway. It's pretty much a requirement, I think. Nice job!
Hello, peoples. Here's a little ditty I wrote and recorded back in the 90's. The song isn't degenerate or filthy but...It is about masturbation. Just me having fun. I do not wish to have this one archived. and yes, it has a bitchin' guitar solo included. Lyrics are below: https://clyp.it/1mv5kutn?token=bb40fb6b4cc9fbfe871eaf9eff290909 (thanks to @TheBuddha for the info on this upload site)
Hey baby do ya got fries with that shake? Hey baby got a soul I can shake? Hey baby can ya feel me lookin'? Hey baby I can't take no more
Won'cha let me: Give me what I want, Give me what I need, Let me do what I want, Hey baby you look good on paper
Silky hair and a golden tan, sure look good on Caribbean sand, flip the page, there ya lay in a little black negligee, I've done passed the point of no return
Won'cha let me, Gimme what I want, Gimme what I need, Let me do what I want, Hey baby you look good on paper
BRIDGE: Hey baby, how come it's taking so long? He sugar, how come it feels so wrong, Hey baby how can ya look so fine, You're on the cover of all the pages in my mind
BITCHIN' GUITAR SOLO: neer neer neer whaaaaaaw neeer biddl waddl wa wa wang
Sounded good. Not sure what I expected to hear when I clicked on it but it got me to thinking. Do people actually have masturbation songs? I mean, everyone has go-to songs for when they are getting busy with a lady but...is the same true for a sub-section of poor, lonely fuckers who have resigned themselves to the fact that they will always be poor, lonely fuckers?
I never understood the whole "trying to look like a woman" thing of the 80's. I had some long damn hair and all that but never tried to go full tranny. I was more about the music. Now on the other hand, singers that I've had...and my main drummer went all out, too lol I miss that fucker
I didn't really mind playing those. We used to do Extreme's 'Mutha don't wanna go to school' and 'Am I ever gonna change'. We did NOT do that gay ass 'More Than Words' song. I liked playing Poison. People loved that shit.
I haven't really covered much Christian Rock, but I have covered My Own Prison, from Creed.
Also, I'm pretty sure I once shared More Than Words, in a guitar thread. I want to say it was me showing off EH's new guitar and I played it while the thread was ongoing.
I suspect I was drinking. I'm certain I was not sober.
If you can't pop off a NOFX tune in 30 mins you gotta be drunk or something, I'm sure it'll be good though, I'm anxious to see which tune, don't tell me beforehand though.
Fuck man you do it so accurate and so damn good, When do a song I have to simplify it and maybe change it up a bit to fit my playing or my voice, but fuck you just nail it, even fat mikes nasaly snarly tone.
Maybe next week I'll do Bob, I never tried to learn it yet but it's always seemed like a fun song.
Thanks mustard. You’ve come leaps and bounds in the last year or so dude. For real. I’ve been doing this stuff for a long time, and I know you’ll continue to get better and better if you keep at it.
Man your stuff is so tight to the original though, even threw in the backing vocals, my goal is to be able to show up anytime anywhere and see a guitar and be able to pick it up and sing and play a handfull of song. That's all I want to do.
Hi everyone. Here's a song I've had kicking around in my head for a few years now but finally got around to recording. Its a breakup song and it's kinda like my ode to Green Day. Just busted it out in an afternoon but I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks for the listen!
Thanks, I have a phone recording app that lets me do multiple tracks and play them back while I’m recording. It’s really cool and it lets me do some really nice harmonies!
I didnt get a chance to comment last night as I had company over here, but i did play your song for everybody as well as all the other songs shared here last night, and I must say, great song. I love the energy of it.
Wow man, that kinda actually really makes me happy to hear! Thank you! That’s really cool you shared everyone’s songs. It’s why I like posting here, everyone here’s really creative and it’s super motivating.
Yeah this FNGT thing is an awesome thing. And you're welcome! but the thanks go to you too, for sharing your music with us. I enjoy listening to everybodys music just as much as I enjoy making the music that I do
I tell ya what, I’ll make a soundcloud and upload all the songs I’ve put in FNGT. I’ve been kicking around the idea of making them all an album of some kind anyway, this sub just gives me motivation to actually record them.
That would be great. Could you somehow include a date of the thread you posted them in the title so I can link them back? I'm having to go back to the beginning (2 years worth) and relink all the vocaroo and instaudio links. It's a big job to say the least. Thanks for doing this.
Oh, we've had the archives active for a long time and go back to the beginning of the FNGT. They have a link to every track shared, but many were on instaudio which recently ceased operations so I'm having to recreate all those links. Vocaroo has always been a problem as they auto-delete after a few days.
You can view the archives at https://fngt.gq in the Forums. If you wish to join the site and be able to interact you will need an invitation code, which you can get from myself, thebuddha, or crazy_eyes, just ask.
I can mimic 'em fairly well. The secret is to try to sound a little bit like Bob Dylan, by singing a bit through your nose - but not so far that I sound like Dylan.
Have some boring chores I need to get to. I do have an alma mater football game to watch. Just a thought, take a couple acoustics over to the park and entertain the masses.
I kinda like my current plan of doing as little as possible today. The entertainment plan is a good idea, but I am pretty sore today. Yesterday was a lot of walking. After dinner, I'll probably keep the baby for the night.
Oh yeah, you have the weekend gym rats today. Seems like despite all you have and can do you may have pain from now on, that sucks. I guess it's no consolation that you are a ghost. I showed K the pic of the car the other day and still can't believe you survived. At least you get to see "a" but she needs a lot more years to get to know you.
By all means, keep it up. If you hadn't been doing so you may well have spent the rest of your life immobile to a large extent. And it has more health benefits than just your leg and you can use that 'cause you'll always live a 'rockstar' life. Oh, a lyric you say
Well I fell asleep, then I woke feelin' kinda' queer
Lola looked at me and said ooh you look so weird
She said man, there's really something wrong with you
One day you're gonna' self-destruct
You're up, get down, I'll come work you out
You get a good thing goin' then you blow yourself out
Lol. I actually used a lyric quote from I used To Love Her earlier. What have you done to me? They're running local tv commercials for a GnR concert here in a couple weeks. Now I wish I could do the whole concert thing and bought some. Meh, I'll wait till they do the casinos, those are much easier to deal with.
Yeah, I won't give up. I don't really do that very well, the giving up bit. I was already pretty fit, but I'm much more fit than I was.
It turns out that a spectacular automobile wreck can't kill me. I'm pretty sure that means I'm immortal!
Holy balls. Immortality would suck. Man, I'd live forever with my smashed femur constantly bothering me. I couldn't even commit suicide to get away from it. That would piss me right the fuck off.
I'm not sure GnR is gonna play a casino. Oh, man... I looked and they're gonna play Caesar's Palace. Well, at least it's a large venue.
Ain't no way I would want to live past my time. For most of life the good times and bad pretty much even out but the older you get it seems the balance seems to shift to more sorrow than joy. Maybe it's just my perception though.
I doubt they would be playing my feather casinos, but you never can tell. Usually those bands are the 2nd bass player using the name.
I just watched a vid of the Kinks doing their Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame performance. Very nice. The Davies bro's still have it and Ray is a great entertainer. They do a nice version of All Day and... and a great version of Lola. Wonder if EH would be interested in that one? not a request. I know your business is replication but I've told you before how much you really shine the few times I've heard you just do your own interpretation of songs, adding your own frills.
Also saw a studio segments of the Hollies doing Carousel. I've always enjoyed Graham Nash a lot, what a great voice. He and Crosby did the On An Island tour with Gilmour and that is pretty sweet. There's clips of "Remember That Night" of the concerts and has the last concerts of Richard Wright playing with him. Also has Bowie doing a couple songs. Worth some time if you're so inclined.
Originally written by Bob Dylan, it was made famous by Jimi Hendrix and later covered by everyone from U2 to Elton John and the Grateful Dead.
“All I’ve got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth”.
I remember the Ramones saying they only knew 3 chords when they started and look what they influenced. But then BB said he doesn't even play chords, just notes. It's all part of the RocknRoll stew.
But all that doesn't deny that complexity and intensive skill having it's place. Where would we be without the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Beach Boys,et al and the studio environment? Different strokes for different folks. Music is the language of emotion and that gets pretty complex to express.
Oh, that was just a statement of fact that I thought you might find interesting. Music needn't be complex to be good. Sometimes, it's seemingly just complex for the purpose of being complex.
Oh, I agree. I know I've heard some acoustic covers of some songs that are so much more 'approachable' that the original versions. I suspect the record companies often change the results because it sounds more profitable to the marketing depts.
I'm not so sure it's the studio, so much as it is the artist. They make things needlessly complex, like it's some sort of magnum opus.
Quite a few are guilty of this.
This is, of course, just my interpretation/observation.
Slash? Guilty. Guilty so many times.
Clapton? Also guilty as charged.
Here, I'll give you an example. Clapton's Wonderful Tonight - needlessly complicated. That doesn't make it not an awesome song, but the studio version is not what tends to get faithfully replicated by him. While in the studio, he made it needlessly complicated. Showing off, is my assumption.
The Black Crowes. They're so guilty that they sound like shit live. If they wanted to replicate their studio work, they'd need like four extra band members - and would probably still spend more time tuning than playing.
I play "She Talks to Angels" better than they can. It's needlessly complex.
Don't get me wrong. I love needlessly complex, to a point.
Rush? Their entire library is pretty much needlessly complex - and those crazy bastards replicated it live. That's kinda impressive, but Nirvana had the same number of musicians (three) and distinctly did not task themselves with playing complex music. Nirvana almost certainly has more fans than Rush. I play far more Nirvana than I play Rush, when performing. I sure as shit don't play it with just three musicians. It's needlessly complex.
I totally agree. I said that before in my 'assesment' of people like Yngwie, Bonamassa, and somebody else I don't remember. As technicians they are well skilled but I just don't feel as much emotional investment from them as much as trying to impress. They have their place and definitely contribute to the art, but leave me personally cold. But that's just me and my tastes.
I'm glad you mentioned Rush. Peart is obviously mesmerizing, as well as Geddy and Lief, but I don't listen to much outside their popular hits. I'm sure being a drummer influences that.
Rush produced a lot of music that was a lot worse than a band like that should have made. For that much skill, they sure made some shitty music.
They have not, so far as I know, produced an album that I can listen to entirely.
That is just opinion, of course. I don't deny they are masters of their craft, they just usually kinda suck - except for their hits. They do have a lot of hits, but far fewer than a band like that could have had.
As I recall, they're all fairly mentally stable and never even trashed a hotel room or went to rehab.
Pussies.
If they had, they'd have made better music. They didn't sell their souls for rock, though they did go pretty damned commercial, which is kinda like selling your soul.
Also, I have been thinking...
If you sold your house, you could probably use that money to live in a hotel room. Maids and room service are pretty awesome.
Thanks for that laugh. Pussies, indeed. They aren't true rock stars. I'm sure you know the story of Peart losing his daughter and then his wife. How someone can bounce back from that and continue to be functional and contributing is inspiring.
I could never sell this house. Way too much sentimental attachment and filled with the stories and items of my entire life. I'm at the point of being a ship sailing in smooth water slowly into the sunset. I want for nothing and have finally silenced most of the voices that plague me as I try to sleep. My expectations, and hence joys, are easily met now and I'm enjoying that.
You seem to have missed the maid and room service bit.
They even bring me wine. I just tell 'em what type of wine I'm in the mood for, and they bring me the perfect wine. So far, they've not done a single thing I don't like.
The weekend people kinda suck, but the staff manages it well. I have no idea how they afford it, but there's some sort of student sport event in town - and at least one team is entirely holed up here. They're down on a lower floor, but they were in and out of the gym this morning. They're also all over the pool area. It's not that I was going to swim, but they're in there making noise.
Other than that, it's not bad.
Room service and maids. They make up for quite a bit.
I could almost get used to this, except I can't really go piss off the porch here. I mean, I can. I'll just get in a lot of trouble.
I would kinda like a cook to prepare a weeks worth of food at a time I could heat when desired. My sister would do a little of that but I don't like to ask much. Still, I do some so she has something to do and keep connected and feel useful. She is even more of an introvert than me and spends the vast majority at home with little social contact as possible. But it's not up to me to judge her happiness.
So how old are these students? Is EH suddenly wanting to go swimming, or maybe just a stroll through the pool area in her suit? What a wicked game they play.
Do a Randy Quad and wander down to the pool in your bathrobe with a beer in your hand and pee in the pool while they're in there. Well, you could but probably shouldn't.
Hmmm, beer and a whole day of chores I don't want to do. Is the battle already lost?
I am seemingly on a bad movie kick and I'm watching one with Assassins in the title. So far, it's like five minutes in and particularly horrible. Good.
Anyhow, there's a GTO in it - and it's red with flames on the front fenders.
It is the single-most horrible thing I have so far noticed. It's like a GTO owned by a Hispanic gang that painted it like a low rider. Well, no... It's not that, it's what it looks like. It is painted more like a low-rider than anything else. In the movie, it belongs to a cop.
Movies should have car casting, like actor casting. This is just horrible. Not even a tasteless NYC cop would do that to a GTO. It wasn't done by Hispanics, 'cause the paint is actually pretty shitty. Say what you want, but those folks can paint some cars.
I watch a lot of TCM. I'm not as interested in them as I am with music but I do like that they do a similar thing of prefacing the movies with a small history of the movie and/or he stars. Random interest snippets. I didn't grow up going to the movies all the time and didn't have hero worship of the matinee idols, but I frequently would go for the old monster pictures. The standard Godzilla franchise stuff, the classic Mummy, Wolfman, Dracula stuff but also the oddball ones like The Indestructable Man, The Beast With Five Fingers, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, etc. Tried, unsuccessfully, to be frightened but never really was.
Is the GTO in the movie around the age of your car? I can see where you would take it personally. I would have thought you would have gone for French Connection, Clint Eastwoods Gran Torino, or at the very least a Dukes Of Hazzard episode with bonus Ringo wifey in daisy dukes.
The only good NYC cop I'm aware of was Eddie Mahoney.
She hasn't left the hotel room since they arrived last night. At least not as far as I know. They appear to be in high school. I told her they were here and she scowled and hasn't left.
Indeed, what wicked games they play.
I don't dislike them enough to go pee in the pool. I'm also sure the hotel would kick me out. Do you have any idea how long it'll take me to find another hotel that brings me delicious wine with such consistency? I have seen their wine cellar, and it is surprisingly full. I don't actually know what's what, but it's a lot of wine.
They got enough wine to pretty much ensure a long list of bad decisions and indiscriminate behavior. I'm kinda impressed.
It kinda makes me want to learn more about wine.
Well, and it makes me want to make bad decisions. So far, I'm resisting the temptation. I'm kinda impressed with myself!
If it's any consolation, I am having a delicious glass of wine as I type this. People can't even complain, either. Why can't they complain? 'Cause I'm drinking it out of a glass.
Sadly, I can only have a couple of glasses through the day. I've got dinner plans and then may take the baby.
Hmm... What I should do is put on the suit I brought with me and then take EH down to the pool while wearing my sunglasses and looking particularly serious. I bet I can keep a straight face and tying my hair back should help with the persona.
Also, my dinner and baby plans are only tentative. I might just have 'em bring dinner to the room. I might just not bother. My daughter was saying silly things like they might like a quiet night at home and she would just drop the baby off. I consider that an acceptable substitute, so long as I get the baby. That whole quiet evening thing is nonsense. I'm her father. I know damned well it's a code for sex and a movie.
Yup. I say that sort of stuff to my daughter - and keep a straight face.
Oh, it was quite... Well, what's the word. Memorable. It was memorable. I'm sure other copies exist. I just know he has the most complete archive of my work.
Yeah, I wear fancy earplugs. I always get 'em custom fitted. I like my hearing too much to risk it. I'm really, really old - and can still hear. So, there's that.
Hello, and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread. This is anything but normal. For once, I am actually gonna open the thread. I have not been doing so lately. I offer no apologies. If I were sorry, I would not have done it!
Err... I'm just writing that so I can try to think of how to write this next part. It gives me time to think!
Let me first say that I don't always pick the stuff we share. I absolutely did not pick this.
What's worse, is I have to find a way to make it special. I told COF that I'd try!
This isn't what I want to play. This is what EH wants to play. It's way too easy for her, but it's more modern and she likes the song.
I am so unimpressed. So, very unimpressed. She has developed so much much ability, but she plays this. This does not even remotely challenge her. Even the lead wouldn't challenge her much, though she opted not to play it.
These are the things she makes me do. She's pretty manipulative!
In all seriousness, it's okay. I am not teaching her to paint my picture, I am teaching her to paint her own. She's the next generation. I am the old generation. So, she chooses a lot of the music we play.
But, balls... She has shit taste in music! She does, too.
Meh... I've had to play worse and it makes her happy. I don't get to decide what she likes. She does and she likes this. Like I said, I'm the old generation and music changes.
That's about as interesting as I can make Halestorm, It's Not You. If you're unfamiliar, you might want to also listen to the original.
She says the uploaded version doesn't sound like what she saved. She then said something vulgar and drank some wine. She's not resolving the issue tonight.
And you're the second one to mention the quality of the recording - so it's possibly EH's fault. 'Snot my fault. I haven't edited my own music in a while. That's what understudies are for.
Of course. That's her role as understudy. Nothing is my fault.
She had the damnedest of times getting it to record the right input (and didn't), so we did it by amp to mic to line in. We're still in a hotel. It's the best you're getting.
We did get some neat looking magic box that's supposed to be picked up over USB, but that never showed up. 'Snot my job to learn to use it. I didn't even lift a finger to help - or even offer advice.
As long as she played it with passion. It doesn't always have to be complicated to be enjoyable, I of course am unfamiliar but liked it. Sounds like she may need to get a little more time on the new recorder though.
It's supposed to sound like that, really. That tone is pretty close to the objective. We do have some equipment that isn't here, such as the various pedals we would normally use.
Oh, for sure you both are the experts, it just sounded like a little less overall volume and a little less bright overall. But what the hell do I know (even though I do have the new cans).
And, 'snot really a bright sorta song. I've listened to this song at least once a day for like four weeks. She's quite fond of it. It's catchy, but doesn't offer her any challenges. That's okay. I suppose.
There's also a limit to what we can do in a hotel. That was a single take, amps played into a mic. So, you might have something with the recording quality.
Count your blessings. At least she is learning an instrument. Most kids think that hitting play on a sequencer is some kind of major accomplishment.
The next generation will always have a new sound that is some kind of fusion of various styles they grew up with.. So, with a little patience she'll probably come up with a new/fresh sound.
Some are led down a more technical path; and some are led down a more functional path.. somewhere in between is where the magic is.

Holy fuck. How'd we end up with 352 comments?
crazy_eyes ago
TheBuddha ago
LOL I have already been to sleep, woken up, done PT, and ordered breakfast.
crazy_eyes ago
Well I went to sleep and woke up now
TheBuddha ago
Went to sleep, or passed out?
crazy_eyes ago
LoL Went to sleep actually. I wasn't that drunk, just drunk enough to where I felt great, for some reason I had a lot to say. Man that whiskey made me talk, after Chris and his friend left I went upstairs and talked my sons ear off a few times between playing guitar loud as hell. But man, I tell you what, I am a lucky man, I woke up and theres this super gorgeous sweet woman here greeting me with the warmest smile, god she's so sexy that my mind just automatically goes to damn, I want her.
TheBuddha ago
LOL I woke up as the only one awake. EH was even still sleeping when I got back from the gym. I ordered us some breakfast and she ate it in bed.
crazy_eyes ago
You know how I said I was a lucky man, well right after I wrote that last paragraph to you, she came in here with nothing on but a t-shirt, then she announced that she had nothing on but that t-shirt and headed for the bedroom. LoL That's an invitation I could not refuse
TheBuddha ago
Sweet.
crazy_eyes ago
Hell Yes!
TheBuddha ago
I have seen no females wearing just a shirt, today.
crazy_eyes ago
I have! Even without the shirt! She even made me a sandwich! I am without a doubt a very lucky man
TheBuddha ago
For what it's worth, I did see EH in a t-shirt and panties. She did not make me a sandwich. We have room service and delivery food.
crazy_eyes ago
You're pretty lucky yourself
TheBuddha ago
And, just to sow some confusion for anyone else reading this, I'll remind you that she even got breakfast in bed. She did, too.
That should confuse any readers.
cynicaloldfart ago
(Insert frowning disapproval emoji, not confused).
TheBuddha ago
Pfftt...
I'd like to think that there's so many, much bigger things for you to disapprove of.
cynicaloldfart ago
I have a list and someone needs to be the adult around here. I'll let you know when I find one.
On a completely different subject, I'm thinking about taking on a new project. I pulled G's guitar out and took a look at it. It's a G-series Takamine
https://www.takamine.com/GJ72CE-NAT
TheBuddha ago
There's an adjustable truss rod in the neck. Don't actually adjust it, but it is there if you want to risk it.
With that, you can adjust the bend in the neck and adjust the action. This is, of course, not something I would recommend unless you know what you are doing.
So, you can learn to adjust it, or you can just play it as it is.
Unstring it all see if the bow straightens after a few days. Then, string it with light strings, spending no less than $10 and no more than $20 on new strings.
I am now on mobile. I have a baby. She's going to sleep soon. I can tell.
cynicaloldfart ago
We can talk after baby and mobile.
TheBuddha ago
I suspect that I will be crashing early tonight.
cynicaloldfart ago
Do that, get some rest. I'm in no hurry. But, I'll be watching!
TheBuddha ago
You are gonna wear your apron out.
Baby is officially asleep. She was mostly asleep when she got here. My guess is that she'll sleep and then want to eat and be changed.
However, I am still on mobile. My laptop is a good 10 feet away.
cynicaloldfart ago
You're probably gonna get awoken in a few hours, and you're gonna love it. BNE.
TheBuddha ago
I may cheat and stay awake - and then just wake the baby up for food, amusement, and a changing. Then, she'll hopefully resume sleeping fairly quickly and sleep for a while.
She sleeps better than her mother did at this age.
crazy_eyes ago
LoL Good for her!
TheBuddha ago
We are staying in tonight. I'm gonna babysit while my daughter goes to see a movie and, presumably, shags her husband.
We were going to do dinner, but I don't really feel like going out and I've had just enough wine that driving is not a responsible thing to do - and definitely isn't a responsible thing to do with EH and the baby in the car.
crazy_eyes ago
Around here if there's a minor in the vehicle you will get a drunk driving ticket for having 0.02 blood alcohol
I think we're just going to stay in tonight too, though you never know. She hasn't mentioned doing anything and I don't need to go anywhere
TheBuddha ago
It's okay, I am not going to drive. I value their lives and my freedom too much to risk it.
Besides, I can get wine and food delivered.
crazy_eyes ago
I love delivery, though I order things other than wine and food. LoL
TheBuddha ago
I've been well behaved, mostly.
crazy_eyes ago
Thats shocking, I tell you, shocking!!
TheBuddha ago
I should go on a bender.
crazy_eyes ago
LoL Not while you're babysitting
TheBuddha ago
And not in America.
It should be a good bender, that ends after months of bad decisions and being deported from at least one country.
crazy_eyes ago
What's a good country to be deported from?
TheBuddha ago
Probably none of them, but I am not sure. I have only ever been deported from Canada (many years ago, and now they have to let me in 'cause I'm a citizen).
crazy_eyes ago
You're a Canadian? Thats weird, what a hoser eh?
TheBuddha ago
I am an American, but I was able to use my heritage to secure citizenship in Canada. My tribe is from Canada, so I secured enough points and passed the test to become a naturalized citizen of Canada. I don't reside there, but I do own property there - as it was an easy, available option to get enough points to apply for citizenship.
crazy_eyes ago
That's cool. Your home is only like 50 miles away from Canada isn't it?
TheBuddha ago
As the crow flies, kinda. It's actually quite a drive from my house to a border crossing.
crazy_eyes ago
Yeah, that's what I meant, geographically. There's no highway heading straight to canada from you, didnt you and some drunken Opie get a truck stuck on the border?
TheBuddha ago
Not on the border. On the trail that is also the high tension power lines that goes to Canada.
crazy_eyes ago
Oh ok, I was wrong, man that never happens LoL
This FNGT is going strong here for a Saturday night, here I am talking with you and trasheconomy and cof all in the FNGT 24 hours after you opened it! Thats a first
TheBuddha ago
I am going away soon, so you'll have one less person to talk to.
crazy_eyes ago
Thats quite all right, even if you all leave I still have her here to talk to
TheBuddha ago
On that note, I am gonna go find a movie to stream with EH.
crazy_eyes ago
Tucker and Dale vs Evil if you haven't seen it before
TheBuddha ago
LOL The baby already woke up, ate, got changed, and went back to sleep.
I'm on a bad movie kick. I pick a pirate streaming site and watch whatever looks even remotely interesting - usually with the goal being mindless plots and a bunch of wanton slaughter and destruction. So, I am watching a Van Damme movie next.
I just watched Replicant, which was actually not as terrible as I was expecting. I think I am gonna watch it in the bedroom. I can just hook the laptop to the TV.
crazy_eyes ago
this is the best song of the night Southbound train this should be on the fucking whole thing, this one is awesome
FishBoneFredd ago
Me, trying to learn the git-fiddle.
crazy_eyes ago
I was expecting a fiddle but all I got was guitar, and now I dont remember what you played. Man im fucking drunk
nigger_plz ago
Man that nigger came on after rapping Dolla. Shit I thought it was you.
Freaked me out.
cynicaloldfart ago
Every journey starts with the first steps, good on you. Here's some background on that song if you're interested.
https://voat.co/v/PaddysPub/2312779
FishBoneFredd ago
Great link. Thank you.
For some reason 10 Years After I'd lLove to change the World reminds me of Guns N' Roses in their earlier days (specifically One in a Million).
Both of them was against the Man in their way. I'm always for that, and for me it needs to be tackled from both sides.
crazy_eyes ago
Thats a good start, I thought it was skynyrd
TheBuddha ago
You gonna learn the rest? How long have you been playing?
FishBoneFredd ago
That was a recording from many years ago. I practiced that 100's of times, and that recording was the only one I hit close. Work and life cut my cord from music, and I miss it. I guess now I crave it, and that's why I shared it.
TheBuddha ago
It eats up your time, a lot of your time, if you want to get good.
I can't actually say it's worth it, to most people. I'm glad to have invested the time.
FishBoneFredd ago
Art is always worth the time, but not financially. Those indoctrinated to the workforce, there is no savoir than art.
That is a chain that lays heavy on me, and one I want to break.
crazy_eyes ago
Si, after we were done with the Irish songs, we just jammed, and this came out Impromptu
TheBuddha ago
How much beer was harmed in the making of that song?
crazy_eyes ago
no beer, Brandy
cynicaloldfart ago
I hear she's a fine girl.
crazy_eyes ago
Apperently she makes me talk a whole lot
cynicaloldfart ago
I'm thinking what a good wife she would be, but your love, your life, and your lady is the sea.
TheBuddha ago
Coffee brandy?
crazy_eyes ago
E&J no coffee
TheBuddha ago
I've been thinking 'bout going back to drinking port.
crazy_eyes ago
I think you drink enough win with all the blueberry wine you get, harder
TheBuddha ago
I will have you know, I have no blueberry wine with me.
crazy_eyes ago
Now how the hell could that be
TheBuddha ago
They have lots of delicious wine here already. They got like a giant wine cellar that has stuff across the board, some of it insanely priced.
They have surplus wine. They have more wine and spirits than I could possibly drink. They won't even run out if I try.
crazy_eyes ago
Since we were playing the old, old, oldies, we did another one, Star of the County Down
MrHarryReems ago
This is a cool version of a classic! Sounds like you've got a drum machine and some effects going... Care to sum up? I'd love to hear about what you've got going on here.
crazy_eyes ago
MrHarryReems ago
Sounds good, man!
crazy_eyes ago
The one thing I didn't mention is that song took us probably twenty takes to play as we would fuck up before we got to the end so many times. I played bass sometimes, acoustic guitar some times, I was only playing the electric guitar cause my fingers were getting worn out playing all those notes on the bass or the super high action acoustic guitar. If we hadn't screwed up so many times on this one it would have sounded different
MrHarryReems ago
Haha! I've played that song SO many times.. I actually screwed it up a few weeks ago at a Ceilidh and completely shocked myself. I can usually play this one forwards and backward drunk or sober.
crazy_eyes ago
I don't think I had ever played that one before that day
cynicaloldfart ago
I got a new pair of cans and now I can hear how well your recording is. Nice.
Harry did it back in 8-17-18. Last I heard he was playing on a cruise ship, wish he'd stop by sometime.
crazy_eyes ago
Thanks cof, a little bit of booze and everything sounds good!
TheBuddha ago
Hmm... Does he know Whiskey In The Jar?
MrHarryReems ago
Did someone say Whiskey?!?!?
Ask and you shall receive.
cynicaloldfart ago
Well, there you are. Done with your cruise I see. You've become my favorite artist on the FNGT. Don't you agree @TheBuddha?
MrHarryReems ago
Thank you sir! I need to check and see if we have any decent footage from the cruise. The stage, lighting, and sound crew there were fantastic right up until the last night when I think they were all hungover. I think overall it was the most lucrative gig I've ever played considering that we really only played 13 songs over the course of 5 nights, and they provided our fiddle player!
cynicaloldfart ago
Sounds like so much fun. Love to see some video if you can find it.
TheBuddha ago
I'm so not gonna pick favorites. Hell no...
If forced to do so, I'll just pick EH.
cynicaloldfart ago
Click or not, don't care
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur-yMil88fU
TheBuddha ago
I compromised. I clicked to expand it and didn't click play. I can't really play music right now. EH is practicing.
She will get grumpy if I interrupt her - but not so grumpy that she just goes and plays in another room. We have that option now.
cynicaloldfart ago
(dryly) How very nice for you. Now if you'll excuse me I have some friends to go visit.
TheBuddha ago
If you'd like, I can crank it up and press play - and then when she scowls tell her I did it 'cause you insisted while knowing she was practicing.
I'll do that for you, if you really want!

Wait...
Have I seen you on that stage before? It looks like the same place you've played before, like an outdoor mall type of thing (as memory serves).
Though I don't recall there being barrels there before.
I won't even make unruly comments about your attire!
MrHarryReems ago
Yep! It's an outdoor stage at a resort shopping center. They've been very good to us over the years. This time around, they said, 'You've put together a great St. Patrick's program, and now a great Pirate program.. What else have you got??'
TheBuddha ago
I hope you answered that question with, "Bills to pay."
With the current band, we've covered Metallica's version of the song. We really only get to play it around St. Patrick's Day.
crazy_eyes ago
no, he knows the song but dont know how to play it, im sure we could look up the chords
TheBuddha ago
Listen to the version by the Irish Rovers, if he's unfamiliar with it.
crazy_eyes ago
he thinks he's heard thatj
TheBuddha ago
I prefer it to the more modern interpretations by like Tin Lizzy or Metallica. The Grateful Dead do a pretty interesting version, as well.
crazy_eyes ago
i'll make him learn it
TheBuddha ago
Someone's slacking tonight. Only one downvote. I'm disappointed.
crazy_eyes ago
I was busy with guests
TheBuddha ago
It's okay - it ended up with seven downvotes.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Well I got nothing this week, I made the mistake of changing the strings on my guitar and now I don't even want to touch it, it sounds and feels disgusting. Hopefully by next week its back to sounding and feeling good again.
TheBuddha ago
I love me some brand new strings.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
On an electric they don't bother me, but on an acoustic they always sound really tinny and it just doesn't feel right until you get some finger oils all over it and stretch them out real good.
I think they are good strings too just not ready to use yet, they are some some ernie ball earthwood 80/20's, the only strings I've ever used that don't require a long break in on an acoustic are DR's coated strings like the black beauties.(I should have just got black beauties)
TheBuddha ago
I love me some bright strings.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
TheBuddha ago
LOL Pretty much nothing I own has strings with two weeks of playing on them. I can change strings in an insanely quick manner. I love me my string winder.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
TheBuddha ago
I am an unabashed Martin fan.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
The acoustic I currently play is a really nice Martin clone made by Cortez(now Cort) in the 70's in Japan. It's a damn fine guitar but it's got issues so I think I'm due for a new one, I'll always have and use this one too,.but one of the machineheads is bent a bit, and the bridge is cracked and glued back together right in the center where the string holes are.
TheBuddha ago
If you get a chance, play one - they're worth the money. Even if you don't buy one, they're a treat to play. The D-28 is my favorite model.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Mines a clone of a D-28 and I think it's a pretty good clone I know it's not the original but it's a damn nice guitar. but the exact specs of the D-28 like exact everything except the martin name. Even the headstock is the same size and shape
TheBuddha ago
I can't say I've ever played one.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
I got this guitar like I got paul only many years earlier, it was a yard sale find and it's hard to find info on them, apparently they were a japanese company that made clones of popular american guitars in the 60's and 70's and everywhere I've seen gives them great reviews and then over the years they moved to korea and changed their name to Cort[sounds gross Cortez was cool] and now I guess they sell entry level mass produced guitars.
TheBuddha ago
I'm surprised they weren't sued out of existence. Quite a few of the class known as the lawsuit guitars were pretty good bang for the buck.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Mine's lasted at least 2 owners almost 50 years, that's gotta mean something.
TheBuddha ago
Most should do that, unless you're really rough on 'em.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Ya but someone was rough with it, the tuners all bent up, I could easily buy new tuners but these ones are really really good, they hold tune forever, I never tune my guitar, I might tune a string every couple weeks if something bugs me and maybe tune the whole thing every 3 months. With the new strings I've been tuning daily and abusing the hell out of them, but normally I'm big on tuning.
m_1 ago
I wrote a song a while back. Its called 'Nigger Doorbell" and plays on the fact niggers wont get out of the car to ring a doirbell, choosing to just honk instead.
Wondering if someone would be interested in putting it to music.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
I'm good with music but have trouble with lyrics I can probably do it for next week, it'd have an acoustic punk feel to it.
m_1 ago
I'll clean.up the lyrics a bit and make some notes. Will send it your way when done. Thx.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
no problem man we'll see what I can make of it.
crazy_eyes ago
Hell yeah, fucking make that shit ring the doorbell without even getting out of the car
crazy_eyes ago
Hey everybody! Last Saturday my friend Chris came over and we jammed a sea shanty. MrHarryReems should enjoy this, as well as the rest of you. Way Hey Up She Rises
MrHarryReems ago
Crazy! I just did this tune with the band for our Pirate fest last weekend! I'll see if I can clip out the video and post it!
crazy_eyes ago
Awesome!!
MrHarryReems ago
Here it is! This was during our Pirate production with Hawaii Irish Dance last week. I finally have little bit of time off!
crazy_eyes ago
That was tremendous. I loved the dancing girls. We didnt have dancing girls. All we had was alcohol.
MrHarryReems ago
Thanks man... I would have to say that alcohol counts for quite a bit!
crazy_eyes ago
You're welcome! I don't drink real often, but when I do I sure enjoy it
Trasheconomy ago
That bass! I love it!
crazy_eyes ago
Thanks!
crazy_eyes ago
@Mrharryreems
nigger_plz ago
Man alive I was trying to find the chords while you guys played so I could play along and these lyrics popped into my head: "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip. That started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship. The mate was a mighty sailor's man, the skipper brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day on a fateful island tour."
Fits like a glove.
crazy_eyes ago
Awesome, I thought a talking about the other song, now I'm thinking that sherwood shwartz may have used the melody for insipiration
SandHog ago
Oh damn, that's great! I love me a good sea shanty. I couldn't help but think, as I listened along, that Verle would have made a terrible sailor. Or, quite possibly, the best sailor of all time. I couldn't quite decide either way, lol.
crazy_eyes ago
Verle was not involved LoL
SandHog ago
Lol, yeah, I know. I just couldn't help thinking of Verle upon hearing that based on the Verle I have constructed in my mind based on what I know of him. Plus, I'm pretty stoned. Chris sung that really fucking well.
crazy_eyes ago
thats awesome!

Ha! I love it. That guy who sings the "Wosop" song does a little bit of it.
crazy_eyes ago
I don't know what the Wosop song is
CheeseboogerHimself ago
This Florida dude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrc-AMjhrkY
crazy_eyes ago
LoL
cynicaloldfart ago
crazy_eyes ago
Thank you sir
cynicaloldfart ago
It does make you realize how music connects us through centuries of time.
crazy_eyes ago
It is amazing to think of it that way, those feelings can be transported far into the future and be felt by people who were not even alive when they were originally felt by the artist who shared their feelings, it's amazing to me
cynicaloldfart ago
I have a page of sheet music for piano that I have tried to have somebody play. It is from my great, great, great grandfather. He was a composer in Austria and reportedly could play every instrument in the orchestra. Several people said they would try it but so far no one has done so. I had people say it is rather difficult to play. I just would like to hear what it sounds like for that same connection with blood through the centuries.
crazy_eyes ago
Have you asked Nadeshda?
cynicaloldfart ago
Yes I have. I hate to bug her again, she's so busy with all she does.
crazy_eyes ago
yeah I understand, she's way, way better at piano than I am
TheBuddha ago
LOL I just mentioned drinking rum and singing this song as something I'd thought about.
LegalPERSON ago
https://clyp.it/yyezvhkb
Alright in true punk rock fashion. Super quick, a little sloppy, but fun as hell. The song is called 13 Stitches by Nofx
MrHarryReems ago
You managed to make punk sound good... Impressive, as always!
LegalPERSON ago
Thanks Reems, glad you made it haha!
crazy_eyes ago
Fuck yeah man, excellent!
SandHog ago
Never heard that one before but it sounded real good. It's not punk if there isn't at least a little slop, anyway. It's pretty much a requirement, I think. Nice job!
LegalPERSON ago
It’s an awesome little tune. The original is a bit more lo-fi (on purpose) than my rendition, but its overall pretty close. Thanks for listening
xobodox ago
nice.. song writing, performance, and production.. A+
LegalPERSON ago
I can’t take credit for the song writing on this one, but I can for everything else haha! Thanks for checking it out
cynicaloldfart ago
Is that recorded by someone? I don't know punk at all.
LegalPERSON ago
Yeah the band is called NOFX, from San Fransisco. They’ve been around since the early ‘80’s.
Here is the original:
https://youtu.be/xLNrCerCk0c
cynicaloldfart ago
Yeah, that rawks. You're so good that I'd never call this "a little sloppy" listening to it.
LegalPERSON ago
Thanks! A little sloppy works for punk anyways. Plus there’s maybe 5 chords and 2 changes in this song so there wasn’t much to screw up lol
TheBuddha ago
It sounds vaguely familiar.
LegalPERSON ago
It’s a song I’ve always loved. I’m sure the chord progression is similar to 100 other tunes
TheBuddha ago
That's probably true. I don't think I've ever covered any of their stuff. If I have, I have managed to forget.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
MrHarryReems ago
Love this! This is the sort of thing I was listening to back in the 80's. The guitars feel really Van Halen-ish.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
haha Thanks. I recorded this right after coming out of the 80's
SandHog ago
Sounded good. Not sure what I expected to hear when I clicked on it but it got me to thinking. Do people actually have masturbation songs? I mean, everyone has go-to songs for when they are getting busy with a lady but...is the same true for a sub-section of poor, lonely fuckers who have resigned themselves to the fact that they will always be poor, lonely fuckers?
crazy_eyes ago
God I hope not
crazy_eyes ago
woooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooo
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I'll take that as a compliment haha
crazy_eyes ago
Hell yeah its a compliment!
cynicaloldfart ago
Noted but sad. I like the production, just got some new cans and it's done really great.
TheBuddha ago
Dude... That's the most eighties thing I have heard in this thread in a while.
Man, it needs keytar.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
haha Don't make me do it, mane. You know I will!
TheBuddha ago
Dude... I did Wham! not too long ago.
I 'member the 80s.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I heard it. It was awesome. I still listen to WHAM! I live in the past.
TheBuddha ago
Did Michael Jackson, too.
I have still been refusing to cover Bon Jovi. We almost did some Motley Crue a while back.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I never cared for Bon Jovi. When they came out it was 12 year old girl bubblegum music. I like me some Crue, though.
TheBuddha ago
If Motley Crue didn't say it, it don't need sayin'!
And, I have covered so much Bon Jovi. So much... I stoutly refuse to cover any of it, ever again.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
We used to do Living on welfare, you give love a bad name and never say goodbye. meh
I'd rather do Warrant and Winger. Good shit.
TheBuddha ago
Man... You just called Warrant good - presumably with a straight face.
I need to dig out the quintessential 80s song again, just to remind you... Don't I? I have a copy of it here, but not uploaded.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I love Heaven, Down Boys and Uncle Toms Cabin. Good shit.
TheBuddha ago
How many pairs of spandex pants do you own for the stage?
CheeseboogerHimself ago
heh heh I never wore spandex or make-up. Ima ripped jeans and cool shirt kind of guy.
TheBuddha ago
I have some in florescent colors, multiple pairs. I'm sure they are still in my possession.
The 80s were horrible.
And, I can not only do my own makeup, I can do someone else's.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I never understood the whole "trying to look like a woman" thing of the 80's. I had some long damn hair and all that but never tried to go full tranny. I was more about the music. Now on the other hand, singers that I've had...and my main drummer went all out, too lol I miss that fucker
TheBuddha ago
It was my job to look the role. 'Snot like I had standards. I was already covering shit like Bon Jovi, so you know I have no standards.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
LOL I've played a lot of shit that I will probably never admit to.
TheBuddha ago
I've fucking covered Cindi Lauper and Madonna.
I sold my pride for ramen noodles.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I had to play Plush by STP. Nothing is as bad as that!
TheBuddha ago
Ha! Interstate Love Song.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I'd rather get punched in the balls than play that.
TheBuddha ago
Worse, I got paid.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I did too but still...GROSS
TheBuddha ago
I've covered Extreme and Poison - on the same night, show after show after show.
Oh, and Soul Asylum.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
I didn't really mind playing those. We used to do Extreme's 'Mutha don't wanna go to school' and 'Am I ever gonna change'. We did NOT do that gay ass 'More Than Words' song. I liked playing Poison. People loved that shit.
TheBuddha ago
People loved Bon Jovi.
That's why I played it.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
They did, for sure. If I ever start an 80's band, which Ive thought about, I'd probably have to play a couple songs by them.
TheBuddha ago
I did top 40, for years. It was terrible. People like some awful shit. I've played disco. I've covered the Bee Gees.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
We played a few disco songs. One was by KC & The Sunshine Band
TheBuddha ago
Musicianship isn't for people who have shame.
No, it is not.
LegalPERSON ago
I have a busy night but I’m going to try and super quick record a NOFX song. I’ll see if I can get it all done in 30 mins. Probably gonna suck haha!
Mustard_of_puppets ago
If you can't pop off a NOFX tune in 30 mins you gotta be drunk or something, I'm sure it'll be good though, I'm anxious to see which tune, don't tell me beforehand though.
LegalPERSON ago
https://clyp.it/yyezvhkb the title is on the page so it’ll give it away haha
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Fuck man you do it so accurate and so damn good, When do a song I have to simplify it and maybe change it up a bit to fit my playing or my voice, but fuck you just nail it, even fat mikes nasaly snarly tone.
Maybe next week I'll do Bob, I never tried to learn it yet but it's always seemed like a fun song.
You should try we're back we're pissed by RKL
LegalPERSON ago
Thanks mustard. You’ve come leaps and bounds in the last year or so dude. For real. I’ve been doing this stuff for a long time, and I know you’ll continue to get better and better if you keep at it.
Mustard_of_puppets ago
Man your stuff is so tight to the original though, even threw in the backing vocals, my goal is to be able to show up anytime anywhere and see a guitar and be able to pick it up and sing and play a handfull of song. That's all I want to do.
nigger_plz ago
That's about right.
TheBuddha ago
If it wasn't for low standards, we'd have no standards at all!
crazy_eyes ago
We have standards?
Saturday405 ago
I wish I could play a guitar. I can barely play with myself without fucking it up.
crazy_eyes ago
So do I, you should hear what comes out, its insane
TheBuddha ago
We all started out not knowing how to play - and we'll take any instrument. We ain't picky.
Trasheconomy ago

Hi everyone. Here's a song I've had kicking around in my head for a few years now but finally got around to recording. Its a breakup song and it's kinda like my ode to Green Day. Just busted it out in an afternoon but I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks for the listen!
MrHarryReems ago
I really like the guitars on this one. The dissonance and resolutions are nice. Also cool to hear harmonies in this type of music.
Trasheconomy ago
Thanks, I have a phone recording app that lets me do multiple tracks and play them back while I’m recording. It’s really cool and it lets me do some really nice harmonies!
crazy_eyes ago
I didnt get a chance to comment last night as I had company over here, but i did play your song for everybody as well as all the other songs shared here last night, and I must say, great song. I love the energy of it.
Trasheconomy ago
Wow man, that kinda actually really makes me happy to hear! Thank you! That’s really cool you shared everyone’s songs. It’s why I like posting here, everyone here’s really creative and it’s super motivating.
crazy_eyes ago
Yeah this FNGT thing is an awesome thing. And you're welcome! but the thanks go to you too, for sharing your music with us. I enjoy listening to everybodys music just as much as I enjoy making the music that I do
SandHog ago
You definitely captured the Green Day vibe. I liked it.
cynicaloldfart ago
I like it, snappy. Does it have a name?
And would you consider posting to clyp, soundcloud, or another site that doesn't auto-delete your stuff. It would save me so much work.
Trasheconomy ago
I don't wanna do soundcloud but whats that other one? I just want something I don't have to make an account for or info for posting on Voat.
cynicaloldfart ago
You can try https://clyp.it/ or https://help.mega.nz/webclient/cloud-drive.html#how-do-i-upload-files-to-mega. I don't have a lot of info on either but they both have info pages. Good luck.
Trasheconomy ago
I tell ya what, I’ll make a soundcloud and upload all the songs I’ve put in FNGT. I’ve been kicking around the idea of making them all an album of some kind anyway, this sub just gives me motivation to actually record them.
cynicaloldfart ago
That would be great. Could you somehow include a date of the thread you posted them in the title so I can link them back? I'm having to go back to the beginning (2 years worth) and relink all the vocaroo and instaudio links. It's a big job to say the least. Thanks for doing this.
Trasheconomy ago
What all are you putting together? This seems quite extensive
cynicaloldfart ago
Oh, we've had the archives active for a long time and go back to the beginning of the FNGT. They have a link to every track shared, but many were on instaudio which recently ceased operations so I'm having to recreate all those links. Vocaroo has always been a problem as they auto-delete after a few days.
You can view the archives at https://fngt.gq in the Forums. If you wish to join the site and be able to interact you will need an invitation code, which you can get from myself, thebuddha, or crazy_eyes, just ask.
Trasheconomy ago
Oh yeah, thebuddha sent me an invite a bit ago. Cool, thanks!
TheBuddha ago
It definitely does remind me of Green Day, even the vocals.
Trasheconomy ago
Thank you sir. They were big enough when I was growing up, I feel like they're just stuck in my psyche
TheBuddha ago
I can mimic 'em fairly well. The secret is to try to sound a little bit like Bob Dylan, by singing a bit through your nose - but not so far that I sound like Dylan.
cynicaloldfart ago
What was the name of that other upload site?
TheBuddha ago
Mega? The interface kinda sucks and nobody uses it.
cynicaloldfart ago
Yeah, that's it. But does have a few advantages over Vocaroo. I realize I'm on the other end though, down not up usually.
TheBuddha ago
There's bound to be a good site out there.
cynicaloldfart ago
Well, I can keep a handle on anything just this side of deranged.
TheBuddha ago
I haven't really had time/motivation to check 'em all. I was kinda busy when instaud.io decided to shut down. I've been kinda busy since. Kinda...
I mean, sitting around right now and drinking wine is kinda busy.
cynicaloldfart ago
It's all good. Wish I could help but you know better what works for uploads.
TheBuddha ago
I'll find something...
Maybe...
I have been pretty busy, and lazy when I am not busy. 'Snot my fault that my daughter went and had an adorable daughter. I can't be blamed for this!

That was fucking glorious LMAO!
YoHomie ago
I love you for posting that... no homo.
Merlynn ago
ALL OF THE HOMO!!!
YoHomie ago
Well... okay, but just this once.
TheBuddha ago
LOL That song was a song 'fore Lion King, if you're curious.
And, that's horrible. I like it. You know any Janis Joplin - and how do you feel about drinking heavily?
Merlynn ago
No and no.
TheBuddha ago
We need to get you drunk and teach you Janis Joplin songs.
This should be done.
Merlynn ago
Oh dear god,why?
TheBuddha ago
Getting drunk and singing Janis Joplin tunes is a whole lot more fun than it appears from the outside.
Merlynn ago
I don't need to be drunk to sing like shit.
TheBuddha ago
No, it's about the spirit. Drinking and belting out Janis tunes is way more fun than you might imagine.
Merlynn ago
I'll take your word for it.
TheBuddha ago
LOL I've actually done it and recorded it for Voat. Contrary to popular opinion, it was awesome. At least one of us was having fun!
Merlynn ago
Sauce?
TheBuddha ago
I don't have it here to re-upload.
@cynicaloldfart may have a copy.
Merlynn ago
Well, til he speaks up,I'll have to take your word for it.

TheBuddha ago
I am getting off the computer soon.
I think crazy is taking the night off.
Meh... At least it's not a busy thread you've gotta babysit. ;-)
Or just say screw it and I'll check in tomorrow. It's not been very busy tonight.
cynicaloldfart ago
Rest well. I have about another hour in me then I'm hitting it too. Tell EH Sweet Dreams for me.
TheBuddha ago
I slept pretty well, thanks. I suspect you did too.
cynicaloldfart ago
Not as much as I'd like. Have any plans for the day?
TheBuddha ago
Not until very late afternoon. Just dinner plans. You?
cynicaloldfart ago
Have some boring chores I need to get to. I do have an alma mater football game to watch. Just a thought, take a couple acoustics over to the park and entertain the masses.
TheBuddha ago
I kinda like my current plan of doing as little as possible today. The entertainment plan is a good idea, but I am pretty sore today. Yesterday was a lot of walking. After dinner, I'll probably keep the baby for the night.
cynicaloldfart ago
Oh yeah, you have the weekend gym rats today. Seems like despite all you have and can do you may have pain from now on, that sucks. I guess it's no consolation that you are a ghost. I showed K the pic of the car the other day and still can't believe you survived. At least you get to see "a" but she needs a lot more years to get to know you.
TheBuddha ago
At this point, it seems pretty likely that I am gonna hurt until I die. But, I'll do my PT regardless - just to know I have done what I can.
I did do some PT this morning. It was horrible. There were like five people in there grunting and making a racket.
cynicaloldfart ago
TheBuddha ago
Well, at least it's a large venue.
cynicaloldfart ago
I know your business is replication but I've told you before how much you really shine the few times I've heard you just do your own interpretation of songs, adding your own frills.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo7uve5NTWg
Also saw a studio segments of the Hollies doing Carousel. I've always enjoyed Graham Nash a lot, what a great voice. He and Crosby did the On An Island tour with Gilmour and that is pretty sweet. There's clips of "Remember That Night" of the concerts and has the last concerts of Richard Wright playing with him. Also has Bowie doing a couple songs. Worth some time if you're so inclined.
TheBuddha ago
LOL I am pretty sure EH can learn to play Lola in just a short time. 'Snot actually a difficult song to play.
cynicaloldfart ago
I'm sure she could. Complexity has it's place and brillance but simplicity can rely on emotion for it's impact. Sometimes less is more.
TheBuddha ago
If you learn just four chords, you can play a surprising amount of material.
cynicaloldfart ago
Originally written by Bob Dylan, it was made famous by Jimi Hendrix and later covered by everyone from U2 to Elton John and the Grateful Dead.
“All I’ve got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth”.
I remember the Ramones saying they only knew 3 chords when they started and look what they influenced. But then BB said he doesn't even play chords, just notes. It's all part of the RocknRoll stew.
TheBuddha ago
All Along the Watchtower is B A G. Three chords.
cynicaloldfart ago
But all that doesn't deny that complexity and intensive skill having it's place. Where would we be without the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Beach Boys,et al and the studio environment? Different strokes for different folks. Music is the language of emotion and that gets pretty complex to express.
TheBuddha ago
Oh, that was just a statement of fact that I thought you might find interesting. Music needn't be complex to be good. Sometimes, it's seemingly just complex for the purpose of being complex.
cynicaloldfart ago
Oh, I agree. I know I've heard some acoustic covers of some songs that are so much more 'approachable' that the original versions. I suspect the record companies often change the results because it sounds more profitable to the marketing depts.
TheBuddha ago
It's needlessly complex.
cynicaloldfart ago
I totally agree. I said that before in my 'assesment' of people like Yngwie, Bonamassa, and somebody else I don't remember. As technicians they are well skilled but I just don't feel as much emotional investment from them as much as trying to impress. They have their place and definitely contribute to the art, but leave me personally cold. But that's just me and my tastes.
I'm glad you mentioned Rush. Peart is obviously mesmerizing, as well as Geddy and Lief, but I don't listen to much outside their popular hits. I'm sure being a drummer influences that.
TheBuddha ago
Maids and room service are pretty awesome.
cynicaloldfart ago
TheBuddha ago
I'll just get in a lot of trouble.
cynicaloldfart ago
TheBuddha ago
Say what you want, but those folks can paint some cars.
cynicaloldfart ago
TheBuddha ago
Similar years, yes. It's abysmal. It's a horrible movie - which is exactly what I was after.
The best movie ever made was sorta about a NYC cop and he was kinda good. "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins."
I'm telling you, that's the best movie ever made. Ever.

Merlynn ago
Or the tone deaf.
cynicaloldfart ago
Lol.
TheBuddha ago
See? I told ya!
TheBuddha ago
Oh, it was quite... Well, what's the word. Memorable. It was memorable. I'm sure other copies exist. I just know he has the most complete archive of my work.
(I'm not home.)
Merlynn ago
No one's home to Mr. Cockup.
TheBuddha ago
Oh, he has uploaded and linked it for you. You'll see why I enjoyed your song so much.
Merlynn ago
Yup. You're probably almost deaf. I'm sorry for you.
TheBuddha ago
Amazingly, no... No, I have really good hearing. I've been pretty keen on protecting my hearing as much as a performing musician can.
Merlynn ago
So you sing with hearing mufflers on then.
TheBuddha ago
Yeah, I wear fancy earplugs. I always get 'em custom fitted. I like my hearing too much to risk it. I'm really, really old - and can still hear. So, there's that.
Merlynn ago
Unfortunately, the rest of us can still hear it. :p
TheBuddha ago
Yup. Drunk singing Joplin. At least one of us is having a good time.
Merlynn ago
To be fair,it's about as well as she ever did it.
cynicaloldfart ago
HEY! Buddha can take care of himself but leave my Janis alone. She was awesome.
Merlynn ago
It does take a lot of talent to be that high and still able to carry a basic tune.
cynicaloldfart ago
At least he gave it a Token effort.
nigger_plz ago
Good one.
TheBuddha ago
2/3rds of PUN is P-U.
Still, I enjoyed it. I did, too. I listened to all of it.
TheAmerican ago
Ha ha ha ha ha ha (that's my alt)
Merlynn ago
What's your alt?
TheAmerican ago
Many many many many of them ghost, sold, gish, . . . On and on

This is great. Sounds fantastic.
crazy_eyes ago
it reminds me of amazing grace
MrHarryReems ago
Because it is!
crazy_eyes ago
Yeah Chris brought a bottle of whiskey over Friday night
cynicaloldfart ago
Very nice, has a slight Clapton tone and style to it.
TheBuddha ago
Sounds like fun. There's a classical guitar arrangement, but I do not have the tab to hand or I'd share it.
TheBuddha ago

This is my guitar student, in whom I am well pleased. Sorta...

EH is a guitar God
TheBuddha ago
She says the uploaded version doesn't sound like what she saved. She then said something vulgar and drank some wine. She's not resolving the issue tonight.
SandHog ago
Haha, having a Joplin moment. I liked it.
TheBuddha ago
Me too! Hell, as I recall, I didn't even belt it out. I wasn't even all that drunk. I think...
Don't really know, as the memory is kinda fuzzy.
SandHog ago
Eh, fuck it. It's all rock'n'roll. That's what's great about it.
TheBuddha ago
Hmm... I should do a Billy Joel song some night.
SandHog ago
That would be fun. He had some pretty cool songs. I never went out of my way to listen to him but he did some cool shit.
TheBuddha ago
I will have to figure out which one will be a good one to cover with just the guitar.
I am headed offline shortly. I'd stay longer, but I am tired and easily manipulated.
SandHog ago
I think it'd be cool.
Such is the price of wisdom!
CheeseboogerHimself ago
She's killing it but it sounds muffles and low volume or I have something fucked up on my 'puter.
TheBuddha ago
The volume is low. She says it was pinging off the limits, so she reduced it.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
It must be on my end. Have you two done an ACDC song yet-sharing guitar parts?
TheBuddha ago
We did Whole Lot of Rosie.
And you're the second one to mention the quality of the recording - so it's possibly EH's fault. 'Snot my fault. I haven't edited my own music in a while. That's what understudies are for.
CheeseboogerHimself ago
Don't tell her I said this BUT always blame HER!
TheBuddha ago
I didn't even lift a finger to help - or even offer advice.
m_1 ago
I like it. But that's my taste in music. Always thought at some point I'd stop banging my head...but I guess not.
TheBuddha ago
"Me too!"
cynicaloldfart ago
As long as she played it with passion. It doesn't always have to be complicated to be enjoyable, I of course am unfamiliar but liked it. Sounds like she may need to get a little more time on the new recorder though.
TheBuddha ago
It's supposed to sound like that, really. That tone is pretty close to the objective. We do have some equipment that isn't here, such as the various pedals we would normally use.
LOL You should hear the original.
cynicaloldfart ago
Oh, for sure you both are the experts, it just sounded like a little less overall volume and a little less bright overall. But what the hell do I know (even though I do have the new cans).
TheBuddha ago
"Tell him to use his volume knob."
So, you might have something with the recording quality.
cynicaloldfart ago
I always have everything at 11, sweetie. It was fine. You have set your own high bar.
I did go listen to the original. Is that sorta a glimpse into the future? I could imagine that.
TheBuddha ago
She says maybe, in that it's a song she likes and so she may do similar in the future, but other than that it has no deeper meaning.
She used more words, but that sums it up.
cynicaloldfart ago
I meant more the video. A hot chick getting crunky, fronting her own band. The difference might be she would be playing lead.
And yeah, I'm sure she'll have to sing that tune not too far in the future. So many broken hearts to come.
TheBuddha ago
I haven't actually seen the video. I suppose I probably should do it someday.
xobodox ago
lol.. you have to let kids make their own way.. But, just being around you will bring her to a better path.
Have faith (and patience).
TheBuddha ago
She can play much, much more complicated stuff. Meh... She gets to pick 'em, most of the time.
xobodox ago
Count your blessings. At least she is learning an instrument. Most kids think that hitting play on a sequencer is some kind of major accomplishment.
The next generation will always have a new sound that is some kind of fusion of various styles they grew up with.. So, with a little patience she'll probably come up with a new/fresh sound.
Some are led down a more technical path; and some are led down a more functional path.. somewhere in between is where the magic is.
“You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you, Peter Pan. That's where I'll be waiting.” - James Hart (Peter Pan)
TheBuddha ago
She's getting rather adept at it. She puts her hours in.
