Put real ads on the website while allowing user paid ads as well in there own section.

That comes with it's own issues. Corporate ads are often intrusive, and many corporations are very picky when it comes to the kinds of content and services they want their products even remotely connected with. Going corporate in that way could lead to anti-freedom implementations on Voat.

Shouldn't that be up to the advertiser though? If they don't want any part of Voat then so be it. Why should be change to have their ads on our site? I am sure they're companies out there that would be on Voat. I guess I don't understand advertising that much.

I'm sure there would be some as well, but I think finding the rare sort that would tolerate Voat's content and would not have non-intrusive ads might not be enough to fuel Voat's financially, is all.
