Well folks, it’s done.
The biggest update in Voat’s history has just taken place.
If we did it right you will notice absolutely nothing, and this is actually a good thing.
Some Additional Info
For those that are curious, Voat has just replaced its original runtime engine with a more dynamic and flexible infrastructure that will be necessary for expanding in the future.
Everything at Voat is now organized using Sets (a logical grouping of subverses). Sets, while rather simple in their concept, will allow Voat to introduce unique concepts in the near future, and thus we had to really invest in converting Voat over to this structure. We fully committed to this direction.
You will now notice that your subscriptions are organized into a Set called Front. Your blocked subverses are also organized into a Set, a set called Blocked. You can access your Sets by entering your profile and clicking on the Sets tab.
Please note that because of the size of this update (it touched nearly all code) we have disabled creating user sets until we can spend a bit of time monitoring the set code and are able to determine it is functioning as expected.
Testers
I want to personally thank the many users who reached out and helped test the preview version of this release. No one but people familiar with software can truly understand how intimidating large updates can be. You guys found countless issues that we would have never discovered before going live. I can’t thank you enough for breaking things!

@PuttItOut - I want to say thank you for everything. Voat is such a great community-driven place on the Internet. Hopefully it doesn't end up as its ancestor, rather keeps innovating and cutting the edge.
Something that drives me crazy is that there is no a FLOSS Voat reader for Android. Can you look at the possibility of either asking for developers to get coding one true FLOSS reader for Android or propose the idea within the ToDo list? Out of the two or three Voat readers on Android, I don't like none of them. If we brag about how free and safe our community is, how come we don't have a stable FLOSS reader?

It paves the way for you to have groups of subs that you set up, so you could have a work set that is all safe for viewing at work and a NSFW set for when you get home, one of politics so you can get that fix when you want it without other things in it, and jokes for jokes and dinofacts and funny. Basically the end result allows for far more breakdown for you then just subscribed, other, and blocked.

That would make the DB dish out all records for what you were requesting, no matter how many. Again, and again, and again... and I'm imagining that these requested records are kept on the webserver in memory as a view as well - so then that would chew up server memory as well.
I don't understand why, instead of capping it, you do a rough count, and if the number*20 is too big, then go with the count instead? You could even cache the count so it doesn't have to be done every single time.

Because User defined sets are disabled until the code works as expected. So right now, all you have is the Front List (which is your front page) and your Blocked List (which is your blocked subverses). In the future, when the set code is unlocked for User defined Lists, you'll be able to group subverses into personal Lists (like a Weed List for v/trees and v/stoners) and will be able to see different frontpages based on your currently active List
