Nice write up. On a side note, what is with England's fascination with bullpups? I'm not a gun expert by any means, but wouldn't it make sense to just have guns suited to close indoor fights?

not just england but the world in general got bullpup crazy for a couple decades

england was just early to the fad

because of their compact nature bullpups can be better than a conventional layout for indoors and troops dismounting from vehicles

but they have other difficulties with fire control

malfunction clearance

and ambidextrous use

so its kind of a toss up

be better than a conventional layout for indoors

This is what I don't get. Why not just design a gun for close quarter combat. I understand there may be situations where you switch between close and long range, but by and large don't you usually know what you're getting into?

bullpups are shorter in overall length for the same barrel length

a conventional layout will always have a shorter barrel for the same overall length
