Think the 7.62x54r now officially holds the record for the longest service life of all. The biggest problem with the rim is double stacked magazines. Previously, everyone was making single stacks so it wasn't a big deal. When the SVT Dragunov came around, they apparently spent an entire year prototyping its double stack mag before they got a design that works 100% reliably. And it still holds only 10, while looking like it should be 15. On the flip side, it is considered "inherently" accurate due to repeatable head-spacing off the rim, that results in repeatable rifling engagement.
