Sumer is a great mystery.Even after Sitchins mistranslations.

a source i read this on wasn't too reliable, but was (probably) quoting someone who was, so something i sort of know on them is:

"because clay tiles survive longer then sandstone buildings and statues, sumer is gone but its writing remains. problem is we don't know cuniform too well, and there's very little physical evidence to link to what we can't translate now. large portions of the language (and its contained information) are lost"

or something like that, paraphrasing

Its our oldest origin story it seems. It is critically important to know where you are coming to be able to know the direction you are headed to. I am sure the basement in the Vatican holds enough evidence to understand it properly.

that's probably the least of the knowledge the crinkly bastards sit on.

The problem is they would rather destroy everything than let you in there.
