The easy thing to do would be to just get a mirror going. We'll need an image of the site including members and their ratings intact.

chigbungus ago

That's the literal hardest thing to do lmao

Its either that or migrate to an untrustworthy venue surrounded by questionable users.

chigbungus ago

That is definitely not the only option.

A better option would be to create a similarly functioning site on a less expensive software stack, but unless I received monero I wouldn't be able to keep it up for very long, because as soon as people know it's a 'voat replacement' I'll have glowniggers and kikes DDOSing my ass all day.

The board doesn't matter, it's keeping the community INTACT for us to TRUST is what matters. Starting over is no different than going to any other board, and signing up along with the shills. After which will require months or years before returning to the same normalcy (if at all).

chigbungus ago

What community was there to trust when voat started up?

This is a complete non-argument, and your months/years claim is completely unsubstantiated.

Crossing an option off the list for the 'reasons' you've stated is complete retard shit.

Nigger, I've been through this so many times; they will always divide us, and then subvert our new home. They only way to stay ahead of them is to keep trust intact.

Trust can be built into the system used on the site - there are plenty of more efficient ways to do what voat tried to do regarding free speech and avoiding the abuse of mod power.

My proposition was to rehost the image of this site. Yours is to CREATE a whole new site.

How is my idea more difficult? I'm open to suggestions for a more free-speech site, but we've four days...

chigbungus ago

It's more difficult UNLESS admins release the database behind the site.

If they put up a torrent of the site code and data, your idea would definitely be feasible.

The idea of starting up a new site isn't necessarily the most labor-intensive option either - I just think it's a good idea so that we can avoid the current pitfalls of the site, namely operating costs and centralization.

"It's more difficult UNLESS admins release the database behind the site."

Well yeah, there is that. If not then we either migrate or start over.

chigbungus ago

On the plus side though - this means a fully decentralized site could take it's place. This would solve both problems of operating costs and potential DDOS attacks

I saw suggestion of a blockchain free-speech social media. Not sure how that works but I'd keep a rig running to help keep the site up.

chigbungus ago

It's definitely a more ambitious project than a simple website run on some russian servers. Doable, but outside of my time budget right now

chigbungus ago

Unfortunately I don't see them doing this, so yeah - looks like a do-over :(
