I will NEVER forget the trip my father took me and my cousin on, to go see our nations capital. This was during the time in America where people still had patriotism and we had movies being released that certainly influenced kids to grow up and become GI Joes themselves!

I remember walking around D.C and annoyingly to my father, explaining to him how "such and such long dead politician/general/foot soldier, walked or rode a horse along the SAME PATH THAT WE ARE ON NOW!!!!'

My excitement was contagious as eventually my cousin and father began to clearly understand themselves, how much history was here. How much success and valor stood around us. Including standing people, as the number of blacks or non-whites we saw was limited.

But the one spot that truly blew me away (ignoring all the white coloseumisc buildings and incredible monuments, even the giant phallic symbol which I tried explaining to my father thats what it stood for, only to get yelled at in a European tongue, the type which made this kind of yelling twice as effective!) was the Air and Space museum!!!!!

That place was filled floor to ceiling with knowledge, information, peoples experiences, and we were even lucky enough that one of the guests visiting that museum on that day with his own family, had flown in WW2. (Back then, it was a bit easier for jerks to pretend being in the military service, aka, "Lost Valor", but it was clear that some of the older men who asked him questions had a purpose and function behind their inquiries, trying to determine if he spoke the truth and seeing if he would trip up over his own words. All I remember is much like dogs at a dog park, when all the neighborhood local dogs run up on a new visiting canine and sniff his/her ass, this ww2 vet passed the "sniff test"... so to speak.) He was kind and understanding of their approach to him and eagerly answered questions once we learned he truly had been in ww2.

You could hear the excitement and joy in peoples voices back then when they spoke about and asked about Americas history.

One specific item in the museum that had the biggest hold on my eyes and mind, the one I will NEVER forget seeing in person, was the Blackbird... I had read everything I found on this plane for years, even building models with my father of it. But to see in person... and to recall some of the feats it had been made to do by brave and daring pilots, I was in shock.

Even now as I write this comment I am realizing how I can feel that feeling now, as well as the patriotism, behind such incredible buildings representing such an incredible country... and the planes & technology within the museum that changed the course of history... and I truly do my best to NOT compare it to today and the tattered remains, specifically trying to not see all the citizens who are their own worst enemies or are actual turn coats trying to destroy the American dream and the people who built it. Sadly these enemies of America dont even see the hypocracy when using services and technologys that only exist because of the same types of people who made this great nation...

I hate that African museum because itnis ugly as shit as well as because such a thing shouldn't even exist as a government funded, owned and operated thing. But I haven't ever been in it. Possibly it has interesting exhibits.

Contrast that to the Indian Museum down at the opposite end of the Mall. It is actually an attractive building in terms of architecture, but the exhibits suck and it is mostly just empty, wasted space. Of course, it is another museum which shouodn't exist. To the extent any of the materials for those two are legitimate subjects for inclusion in a national museum, they should just be parts of the Musuem of American History and the Natural History Museum.
