Was a huge stink a few years back where a county (possibly texas) had payment for fire protection optional, and the FD declined to put out a guys house fire as one of the non-payers. "Sorry, but you didn't purchase our protection plan."
The FD is needed. Even if my house does not burn down. I always wondered. I heard of the FD charging people for putting some fires out. I always wondered why if they get paid thru the taxes.
