So one of the attacker's IPs showed up belonging to Voat userA. It could be by coincidence, I do not know the whole story. I was also told that this IP was doxxed by another dangerous Voat userB at some point. There are 3 possibilities that I could think of:
The doxxed IP was used by UserB to spoof and frame userA. But why?
UserA was involved and made a careless mistake, which exposed his IP. But who is dumb enough to use his own local IP, or any IP associated with a Voat account, for such attack?
Both userA and userB somehow coincidentally "shared" the same IP at some point. For example, the attacker randomly spoofed a large collection of IPs that happened to contain userA's IP.
Putt also said the attackers are very professional in his announcement. If there is any reasonable connection between the attackers and userA/userB, I think we are dealing with very bad people here.
