You'll reject it all, feeling like a holy crusader of legend in a world of heretics. You'll feel like a champion of virtue here, probably for quite some time. Your armour, and the steed you ride on, will be worn ragged as they are constantly used as an immune-system for your mind. You'll fight constantly, and win constantly, here on Voat; your beliefs and knowledge will stay intact, to your great satisfaction. Nobody can tell you that you're wrong - of course you're not wrong. You know what's true and what isn't, and no right-wing, hateful nutjobs are going to change your mind.

You start to see things, and hear things that don't quite add up - not on Voat, but on your TV, with your friends, on the radio, in the movies, at family get-togethers, at your job. These things will be things that are just a little bit wrong. Not too bad, really. Maybe the reporter just made a mistake? Maybe your family was misinformed by a chain email, no biggie.

You hear a news anchor speak about an event that you happen to know something about. You'll listen as the anchor proudly claims something about the event you know to be false. Wait, how did you know about the event? Why would you think you know better than the MSM news?

The radio jockey you listen to on your way to work is going to weigh in on a recent happening that you're interested in, so you turn the volume up. As the jockey is explaining the situation, you find yourself having to process some of what he lays out as factual context for his upcoming commentary. Why are you having to process this? Didn't you know all about the event already? Why is some of this news? Wait, it didn't happen that way, you saw the videos people uploaded; they all showed something happening that your jockey is not properly describing. Are you mistaken? Did your eyes deceive you? And what about the comments those posting said, were they all lying?

You'll be shootin' the shit with friends when one of them brings up the latest BLM news, and how the latest poster-child for BLM is a paragon of virtue; you'll wonder why your friend is saying this when the rap sheet for this individual, which includes domestic violence, theft, and armed robbery, is public knowledge. Wait, you never heard anything about that on the radio or news on TV, did you? Should you bring it up in front of your friends, or just let it go? Let it go. If it was from Voat, maybe it's not true.

In a conversation with your brother, he'll talk about how someone in DC is a huge racist, and hates everyone that isn't white. You'll recall that this person received some Rosa Parks award for helping the inner-city and underprivileged; you'll recall that this person fought to allow blacks into places they weren't allowed; there was a list of things you'll recall seeing here, and you even took the time to look some of them up to verify the authenticity, hoping to not make the same mistake you did earlier with your friends - the list of things were all true. You'll wonder if a person could change so much since those things happened. Surely you're just not seeing something your brother sees, right?

You'll casually mention the latest terrorism happening overseas in the break room with your co-workers, with the only reaction being their blank stares in your direction. Do they not know? Wasn't this all over the media? A bomb went off in (insert civilized country), why isn't this news? Is terrorism really part and parcel of living in a civilized country? No, surely not... is there something wrong with your memory? Did terrorism happen all along, or did this event not actually happen?

Going back to your friends, you'll hear about the latest attempted mass-shooting, only to find out that the one they're talking about was 4 mass-shootings ago. Inquiring about the more recent ones, they'll wonder what you're talking about, and ask if you're just making shit up. "Hey man, you've been a little odd lately, everything OK?"

No, everything's fucking not OK, is it?

You turn on the TV and see lies and propaganda, so you turn it off, and log on to Facebook. You see FB news, and you know 3 of the top 5 stories are horseshit - but hey, that's FB, and you want to see what your friends and loved ones have to say.

What. The. Fuck. Are your loved ones saying? Is that... really what they think is going on? It's not! It's a lie! You saw the video! Why are they saying (politician) groped a girl when you saw the video they're referencing and no such thing happened? That image is doctored! They have to know!

You tell them. You lay it out for them in very simple terms. You link the video itself, and tell them what minute and second this event supposedly happened. You take a screenshot and put it side-by-side with the doctored image. You do all this, and they ask you to stop posting on their wall. You're triggering them, and they don't appreciate being attacked.

Despite your confidence in both your intellect and how open-minded you are, you fail to understand why someone would want to continue being wrong. It makes no sense, right? So you try again.

Some friends, and a few family members later, you finally decide to stop. They all told you to piss off. You're not even sure if some of them will ever speak to you again. Do they think you're lying to them?

There's nothing more you can say, nobody seems to want to hear the truth. Why? Why won't they listen, when you're going out of your way to lay out the facts and ensure that even a child could connect the dots?

You don't remember grey hair growing there... when did that happen? Are you eating enough? Are you getting enough sleep? Look at those bags under your eyes. You're reminded of Tyler Durden for some reason.

As you drift through your days, you hear buzzwords you know are just the latest fad in virtue-signalling. You hear buzz-phrases that are so absurd they make your head hurt. You hear the many facets of a narrative you know to be lies, spoken as if undeniably the truth. TV, radio, movies, friends, family, co-workers, strangers you pass by, copy - of a copy - of a copy.

You don't even notice how the world around you has transformed since you first came here. Once bright and vivid colours are now just various shades of grey, all swirled around in a monochromatic hell where nothing makes sense. Up is down, East is West, and the image in your mind of your previous self resembles a bad guy getting turned into Swiss cheese in an 80s action flick.

You have no idea when you crawled out of the husk of your previous self, but realize you've been stuck in a perpetual barbed wire crawl ever since.
