Hi Folks!
I just took a look at the Voat-Canary because i came across the announcement of the possible downtime due to maintainance. Here you find the canary: https://voat.co/v/announcements/1330806
In the past this was always edited if an announcement was made - which makes absolutely sense because you see the announcement, click on the Canary and see: Everything is fine.
It really doesn't make sense to change this practice, especially since this was very well established.
So, apparantly Voat got some kind of unwanted contact with the authorities.
Well, thats sad. Although i have really no idea what that means for us, the users.

No, this is a mistake. And kind of funny actually. We switched over to an old redis server and this is data in the cache from a very long time ago.
Purging expired cache now.

IMHO he made a specific mention, so if he pointed out the canary post, and it is 9 months old saying that..then he is saying that he is being approached/ordered/warranted/whatever. And warning us all.

yeah, i was sure about that, too, but i am really concerned now. in the recent announcement he said to pay attention to the number of upvoats of the canary notice, it should be 357. but when i clicked on the canary notice it only were 325. That really caught my attention. He edited the part "pay attention to the upvoats" 1,5hours ago in, so this would mean that in 1,5 hours the upvoats of the canary notice dropped by 32. Note that the decrease of voats only happened by people who HAD upvoated the notice took their "upvoat" back, because we ain't got only 325 upvoats because of downvoats. something about all of this is really strange!

There are comments from only 5 months ago in that thread thanking Putts, etc., so that lends credence to thinking it was updated.
Putts did mention changing some database indexes, maybe something got messed up. Your point is also a good one.
