Post-WW2 pretty much every non-US country worth a damn was in the shitter from having been through WW2. The U.S. manufacturing sector was untouched. Those are pretty well undeniable facts. Once those other countries finished rebuilding and we actually had competition again, all the economic rules started coming back into play.

Did you completely miss that part of the post? Lack of competition owing to other competitive at the time (read: European.) countries having been blown to hell owing to the war helped spur U.S. economic growth. Once those countries (and also Japan.) started coming back up, we start seeing competition, which will naturally drive prices down.
