So, A Levels and GCSE exam results were decided by a computer algorithm as students were on lock down for 5 months and could not take exams which would decide their futures. What happened? Students were graded according to the school they were going to and not by individual performance. Teacher assessments were ignored. Instead those in top tier private schools were given excellent grades while those in lower performing public school were downgraded, many losing their places to universities. The public furore over this has caused the government to do a U-turn over the fiasco but not before immense pain and turmoil to students and many universities saying it is too late for some of those students to be given places for the next academic year. The universities are in turmoil too. And the gap continues to widen between the rich and the rest of the population.
