There are certain genetic disorders that affect medical treatment and/or may help diagnosis. It’s not just an Ashkenazi jew thing, but in areas where their genetics are significant, it is a legitimate treatment question. I’ve only encountered it in NYC, but it makes sense certain areas of South Florida would do it, too.

Thats why they ask you if you have any ashkenazi in you when you go to the dr or hospital.
