But where did they ask you that? I’ve lived all over, too. I have only encountered that question in NYC because there are enough people who might be affected that they would ask. It’s not much different than them being aware blacks have different issues, but they can’t tell by looking if you are Ashkenazi jew. The question was not asked where I grew up nor where I live now,or manyplaces in between.

There are certain genetic disorders that affect medical treatment and/or may help diagnosis. It’s not just an Ashkenazi jew thing, but in areas where their genetics are significant, it is a legitimate treatment question. I’ve only encountered it in NYC, but it makes sense certain areas of South Florida would do it, too.
