This is new to me so I thought I would share:

David Geffen gave $100 million dollars to start a middle and high school for children on the UCLA campus called the Geffen Academy. It opened for the 2017/2018 school year.
He previously donated $300 million to the UCLA medical school. Geffen has some sort of strong interest in UCLA. It's not because he is an alumni, he dropped out of college. Is he just a big hearted guy? Or does finding a school, and giving enormously to the med school provide him some special perks?
Here's the schools website:
https://geffenacademy.ucla.edu/
Note their motto, "Reach in, Reach Out, Reach On"! What????
Here is a good article that breaks down why such a large donation for a school that is really not even needed is a total waste:

The author provides a good rebuttal for Geffens claims for why this school is so important and basically questions why Geffen would throw so much money at something that isn't even needed.

I don't think rich people funding self named jerk off "projects" for the poor is anything new. Anna Karenina was trying to do the same thing to overcome her drug addled guilt
