The site also plans a new initiative to disable all comments on any videos featuring children in exploitative situations.

They will remove the comments, but won't take down the vids?!

pizzawithgreenchile ago

That bothered me, too. The only way I can make it not stupid is if they meant to say this: "inappropriate videos will be taken down; videos that follow the new rules but still attract inappropriate comments will have the comments disabled." But they didn't actually say this.

I have no answer to explain that inconsistency, but, disabling comments is a start, I suppose.

No, it's to avoid outing the pedos who make the comments, whom investigators can then research, troll and dox.

Exactly.

Ohhhh. That’s sinister, disguised as righteous. 😶

Bingo. Youtube just entered a new league of complicity in child trafficking.

argosciv ago

ah... well that sucks :/

Thoughts on what can be done?

What about complaining to the FCC (fuck those bastards) ... If a nipple during the Superbowl can be penalized, then why not visual media by what I'm assuming is an American company? Campaign the shit out of it with magical memes with screenshots of the shit and ask why baker's nightmare and daycare decor asshole Disney is okay with Elsa assplay being geared toward kids on YouTube. Big spotlight on those two fucking monstrosities and hold them publicly accountable.

Don't know if FCC will do shit considering it's online media, but it's worth a shot, especially if Disney and YouTube aren't doing shit. I think that's worth mentioning in the complaint. And all those memes on Twitter should tag the Pres and Don Jr. If they retweeted just one meme... That's a hole in the dam that'd be hard to hold back. The tidal wave of info crashing down upon the normies...

It'd be beautiful.

That's a great idea. Add Ivanka (suppose she's on Twitter too?). She might actually be the one who's the most likely to be supportive.

Turn them into public utility?

argosciv ago

Elaborate? Sorry, I'm pressed for time, heading out for some r&r soon.

There is talk that companies like google/you tube and fakebook etc are so important to our economy and the control of information etc that they should not be in private hands anymore. Some believe they have become like a utility such as electricity and water and should be regulated if not government owned.

think- ago

Well...I think they should take the vids down - this would remove the comments, too.... :-)

argosciv ago

True, can't argue with that logic lol

Weightstone ago

apparently ...youtube is without logic. oh a video with children being 'insert disgusting thing' ...better disable the comments... not delete the vid...or the account if multiple vids exist.... just the comments... wtf

thats like ..oh no theres a fox eating the chickens .. ill fix the holes in the fence... but ill keep leaving the gate wide open.

Yup! Well put, @Weightstone
