So I did a quick search online about Rayburn and, from the scant materials I've read, he seems to have been a pretty good guy, after all. But what do I know? I do tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and from what I've read about him, so far, he was a loyal family man (same wife for 56 years, I think, and he died at his only daughter's home out east). I vividly remember when Match Game premiered in 1973. First it was just called "Match Game," if I remember correctly, and then each year they added the years ('74, '75, '76, etc.). The humor seems smarmy but -- don't forget, young ones -- this was the early 70s when almost every major city had an active, vibrant PLAYBOY CLUB in its downtown area, a lot like you'd find a TGIF Friday's in a metropolitan area these days. So the humor was different then, we definitely weren't politically correct, and all of Madison Avenue was living by the "SEX SELLS" credo. So maybe, just maybe, Gene Rayburn was not a creepy abuser behind the scenes. For now, there's no evidence, and that makes me feel good for a change in here.

But for the near future I'll just focus on the jokes and laughs, and look into him, too, at a later time.
Sadly, there aren't too many in Hollywood who weren't a part of the underbelly. I suppose it'll all come out soon enough. We, thank you, @Carmencita. I'm bookmarking this, for sure. The reason I love the old Hollywood Squares us that we were had to walk to school a half mile-plus, walk home for lunch, walk back to school for the afternoon, and then walk home. So every afternoon we'd have lunch at home, and our mothers all played The Hollywood Squares on TV while all the kids ate at home. This was the 60s. We had the coolest group of neighborhood kids because we watched that. Not to brag, but my late mother was a whiz. She not only got about every answer correct but she came up with the funniest gag answers, like the stars had to do, and she did it on the fly, without the benefit of a staff of joke writers. I idolized her for her wit. I miss her a lot and these films will make me smile, I'm sure, when I gather my family together and watch.

Since it was early July my mother went with a "Fourth of July" theme. She used red, white, and blue ribbons, tape, glutrwr, etc.
Then, on the morning of the contest, my mother stopped me from leaving the house to head to the summer program. She said, "Not so fast, I I have one more trick up my sleeve. It's going to be your secret weapon for this contest.
We went into the garage and she pulled out a package of tinsel. Yes, tinsel. She placed tinsel on parts of my bike where it's affect was most pronounced. I rode the bike down to that program with tinsel flying in the Wind. To my great surprise, I won first place. I think the prize was just a couple of inexpensive toys. But it meant the world to me.
