Let's have a look at the relationship between Hollywood and Las Vegas.

The claim has been made recently that there is no connection between the fabled MGM Studios and the the MGM Resorts Group. Well, let's look at the history:

Billionaire and MGM Resorts board member Kirk Kerkorian -- who through his Tracinda Corp. holds a 30 percent stake in MGM Resorts and is its largest shareholder -- controlled MGM Studios through 2005, when he sold it to investors.

Today's announcement by MGM Resorts distancing itself from MGM Studios highlights MGM Resorts' growing international brand.

The casino resort operator not only attracts international gamblers to its Las Vegas and Macau resorts, but has a branding division called MGM Hospitality that brings MGM Resorts' management expertise and brands to hotels around the world with partnerships that are both gaming and nongaming.

Even during a much-publicized expansion, press releases galore, Hakkasan is struggling to hold on and survive. After a year that started with our investigation into their ownership and investment by Khadem Al Quabaisi, who know sits in prison, the company seems to be crumbling into chaos, even with an impending sale.

The problem still is that Hakkasan is part of an active money laundering investigation, and with a $500 Million investment in the company with funds that clearly have been shown to be illegally obtained, and purchase could mean that the company buying would also have to pay that money back.
