Hey all, new to pizzagate and doing some investigating. First, i see a lot of posts on this topic are almost 10 months old, is this subject dead? Anyway, if you go to usa.gov and search for carisjames, the first result is king of strange:
Report Child Abuse and Neglect | cfsa
cfsa.dc.gov/service/report-child-abuse-and-neglect
Report Child Abuse and Neglect. CFSA takes reports of child abuse and neglect 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (202) 671-SAFE or (202) 671-7233.

Like I said, I am new to voat and to pizzagate, but I'm having a very hard time trying to navigate this topic. I know I'm a new comer, but we really need to get some organizational procedure here if we want to make any kind of difference. Maybe that exists already and I just don't know what I'm doing, but if someone could fill me in I would greatly appreciate it.
PS - everyone involved in this open source investigation should take necessary means to protect yourself. I've decided to just use one device for this topic and to be on the safe side, I am using IVPN when doing anything related. Last night a very strange thing happened to my computer. I was just sending an email on the topic and all of the sudden my computer froze. CTRL+ALT+DEL had no affect, i was left completely helpless (was not using vpn at this point). All of the sudden, my camera light came on for at least 30 seconds. I could not move my mouse, keyboard, nothing. I even tried holding down the power button which should bypass everything and just shut my computer down, but that didn't work. After about 10 seconds of holding the button, the camera light went off and I regained control. Coincidence, maybe, but I've had this computer for almost 2 years and never had a freeze up. Plus I've been in IT for almost 30 years, never seen anything like it. Moral of story, be careful. Could be nothing, could be something, but I will er on the side of caution. Thanks.

Most of our resources have been wiped from the web.
That was tried, it broke. v/pizzagate isn't even the place where most actual investigators post anymore. You have to find stuff all around the boards.
Not likely, unfortunately with all of the shit that has happened you'll have to gain trust. You know, normal opsec stuff.
VPNs are not as secure as you may think. They obfuscate your IP address, but the fact that you're using a middleman that can inject code is kind of stupid.
Use Linux. You should know it's better hardened then windows.
Hey you have a remote access trojan / remote administrator tool (rat). Looks like you already picked up a friend. http://resources.infosecinstitute.com/remote-access-tool/
Unplug the machine / battery dip shit.
I've been in IT for 7, this shit is normal.
Bit late for that.

Wow, understood and appreciate you taking the time to reply. But now I'm not sure what to do in regards to my anonymity since I've apparently compromised myself. Guess I'll have to do some thinking on it. Is there any kind of "Voat Best Practices" guide for those who want to get involved as far as self protection? Thanks.

Voat Best Practices Guide is the mods just delete your shit and you are SOL. That is why most of the serious researchers have left. Have a nice day and thanks for stopping by.

any idea where they have gone?

No, I do not.

I haven't seen a thread like that for over 7 months. My personal best practice is to disable the microphone and camera at the bios, add a bit of duct tape over the camera if it's a laptop.
Disable geolocation
https://techlogon.com/2013/04/23/how-to-disable-geolocation-in-ie-chrome-or-firefox/
Get used to checking domain names before clicking on links. (example https://voat.co/v/AskVoat/2101425/10360270/10#10360270))
Make sure you don't download anything with macros that can hurt your system (generally avoid .doc/.docx and other microsoft shit) from unknown sources.
Run AV on a regular basis, along with spybot etc.
I'd seriously advice if you're on windows to use https://www.sandboxie.com/ (I pirated an old version of this when on windows, it's beautiful).
If you need to obfuscate your IP address TOR is a better option then VPN (depending on usage). But you should have a look at this, I don't really trust middle systems that much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QT4YJn7oVI
Seriously, I wouldn't worry about being doxxed once or twice unless you have a huge footprint on the web.

I am very careful as far as downloading things and emails. I've never got a virus in all my years. I use a paid vpn service which is costing me $100 a year so I would assume they are pretty good. Thanks for the advice, will look into all of it.
