It'd almost certainly be a branch of the US government attempting the identification. It would assume:
(1) Either the redditor always uses a VPN to access reddit, or reddit isn't giving out the user's logs (unlikely).
(2) The redditor going to google maps to look up the geocoordinates without using a vpn, or with google maps having some methods for unmasking vpn (likely). I don't know how many other services are up on the net to look up geocoordinates, but google maps is the most likely service to be used.
I guess the main questions are, (1) is this redditor using vpn, and (2) was there some reason for the government to want to identify him?

The coordinates were sent as a PM to some reddit account. I'm wondering if somehow this was an attempt to identify that redditor?
