When I read this article it struck me as very odd that a tip for a child porn bust came from NCMEC. Why would someone call them instead of the authorities? How are they getting their information?

An Elk Grove Village man faces child pornography charges after police received a tip from a national organization dedicated to finding missing children.
Oren Richard Knez III, 19, of the 1300 block of Parker Place, was arrested July 20 after police executed a search warrant of his house, Deputy Chief Nick Olsen said. Knez was charged with possession of child pornography with intent to disseminate -- a Class X felony -- and possession of child pornography.
The investigation started when the police department got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the investigation, detectives determined images of child pornography had been downloaded off the internet at Knez's residence.
This is just one example of the problems with NCMEC which are well documented in the earlier post https://voat.co/v/pizzagate/1723445 by @TamalepantsMD .
Because they are a private organization they are exempt from any government oversight, including FOIA and donors names, even though they were established by congress and receive some taxpayers money.
Here is another good read on NCMEC
