"sodomy is a sin"

The Old Testament considered many things to be sinful. Jesus changed all that. How many Mitzvot or Commandments are there in the Old Testament? (HINT: It's not 10)

Take your time I'll wait.

The Old Testament considered many things to be sinful.

By what authority?

Jesus changed all that.

By what authority?

"By what authority?"

Jesus Christ

(you've heard of Jesus Christ right? if not i can break out the crayons.)

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

What Jesus Christ is saying here is that the entire OT law (including the prophets), which you say were changed by Jesus, is summarily comprehended in these two statements/commandments. In other words, the ten commandments and OT teachings (moral law) remain, by authority of Christ. But this is futile to argue. You know very well what the followers of Christ, the apostolic founders of Christianity, taught about homosexuality.

There aren't 10 Commandments in the Old Testament. Do some research and get back to me.

"OT teachings (moral law) remain"

Really? Why are Christians allowed to eat pork then? The OT is very explicit, pork is forbidden.

HollandDrive ago

Eating pork was not part of the moral law. The better question would have been "Why don't we still stone adulterers?" I'm not the one lagging in research. As I said, stick to math, drop the theology. I'm done now.

"I'm not the one lagging in research. "

You think there are only 10 Commandments in the Old Testament. It's not me who needs to do more research.

OK I'll bite. Please elaborate. But you'll have to unseat thousands of solid theologians over the past several hundred years, and you'll not be able to do that. You can have the last word. Take care.

"unseat thousands of solid theologians over the past several hundred years"

You mean like Martin Luther did when he nailed his 99 thesis on the door of that church?

:-D

HollandDrive ago

Yeah, I mean like that. In so doing he unseated thousands of corrupt ones that went before him.

Possibly you're saying that there are many commandments scattered throughout the OT besides the 10 given in Exodus. That's true. But these are all "summarily comprehended" in the 10. For example "Thou shalt not commit adultery" included also modest dress, chaste behavior, and much more, just as "Thou shalt not steal" meant honest business dealings, fraud, reporting theft of a friend's property to authorities, etc.

You seem to be differentiating commandments and their punishments but this isn't an a la carte menu at the Olive Garden.

Jesus said there are only 2 Commandments that replaced all Commandments in the Old Testament both original AND corrupted AND all their punishments. This was one of the reasons he was crucified. The other being he claimed he was God. The point is the Pharisees and Jews to this day claim Jesus tried to destroy The Law. A better way of saying that would be they think Jesus tried to destroy The Mitzvot.

So implicit in Jeses' two commandments are the revocation of all corrupted Mitzvot and their associated punishments. Remember Jesus storms the Temple and turns over the money changers tables AND drives out all the animals with a whip. He might as well have soaked the Old Testament in a bucket of gasoline and set it on fire. When Jesus says he didn't change even one tiddle of The Law what he is saying is I'm going back to the beginning and getting rid of your corrupt asses. Jesus is saying YOU the Pharisees have changed the word of God not me.

It's very common to mistake to think Jesus didn't change one iota of the Old Testament. It's used often to discredit Christianity. Even some Protestant churches would like very much for the Old Testament Law to still hold true.

But the Truth is there are only 2 Commandments in Christianity.

1) Love God

2) Love One Another

To determine what's a sin you ask whether that thing violates either 1) or 2). If it doesn't then it's not a sin. Case closed.
