Are you left stunned by the non-coverage of the biggest human trafficking bust in U.S. history while at the same time inherently understanding the “why”?
I went searching for coverage by a nationally known news outlet and omitted all local coverage such as KTLA, ABC7LA, etc. I was left with only 4 stories:
Reuters http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trafficking-arrests-idUSKBN15G5J6
CBS http://www.cbsnews.com/news/sheriff-474-arrests-in-california-human-trafficking-sting/
NY Daily News http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/california-police-arrest-474-rescue-28-sexually-exploited-kids-article-1.2962303
Washington Times http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/feb/1/sheriff-474-arrested-in-california-human-trafficki/
Many stories cite AP as a source but I was unable to locate the story on the actual AP website:
https://www.ap.org/en-us/search?q=474 Sorry, no results were found for "474"
Here are just some of the nationally known news outlets that to my knowledge have not yet posted a single mention of this huge story:
ABC
Bloomberg
CNBC
CNN
Daily Beast
Huffington Post
MSNBC
NBC
New Republic
New York Times
New Yorker
People
POLITICO
The Guardian
The Hill
VICE
VOX
Washington Post
(Note: to build this list I used the list of “journalists” that were exposed by WikiLeaks for colluding with the Clinton Campaign and left off CBS)
The question everyone should be asking is why none of these major news organizations ran a single story and used Reuters as a source – something they do all day, every day, year after year.
Is it “just a local story”? Well, it probably involves the following Federal agencies, so I would reject that argument:
United States Attorney’s Office
Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Federal Bureau of Investigation
United States Marshals Service
United States Department of Labor
The following agencies and task forces participated:
(Police and Sheriff’s departments omitted)
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Los Angeles
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Fresno
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Monterey
Homeland Security Investigations, Los Angeles
Homeland Security Investigations, Ventura
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office
Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force
Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force
Los Angeles Unified School District Police
Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force
Riverside County Anti-Trafficking Task Force
San Bernardino County Trafficking Task Force
Santa Barbara Human Trafficking Task Force
Ventura County Coalition Against Human Trafficking
