One of them was based on that Abraham/Isaac instance in the bible (another popular reference with these creeps is Cronus eating his offspring) and I think one of the Brussels wall images was based on that painting you linked, or one similar/based on literally that painting.

Agreed. The animal is missing also in the Brussels version. And we know how they love to pervert the Good Word
In the Bible story Abraham is stopped at the last minute by God from sacrificing his son and so, to give thanks, he then substitutes a ram.
