I agree he was smug in his coverage of this issue, but I think we should be careful about distinguishing between people willfully/knowingly running cover and those that are experiencing cognitive dissonance as they face something that threatens their entire worldview. I know. Tell that to the kids counting on this story growing legs... But not everyone who is not with us is against us. I have many people in my life who now accept two planes didn't knock down three buildings that were far more smug than Colbert when I first broached the issue. Whenever I was contemptuous of another's inability to see what I saw, it cost me the relationship and an opportunity to bring them over. We are in a war for hearts and minds, and our passion is so powerful we should guard our contempt for others carefully. But I don't know Colbert, he could be shill #1 for all I know... just something to consider.
No...excuse. With a platform as large as what Colbert has he has the DUTY to do due diligence before dismissing something and making fun of it. He's either a pedo himself (most of the LOLers are) or he's a piss poor journalist. I grant him no quarter and zero excuses.
