Want to be truly disturbed? Go to walmart, go to the baby food, find the nearest gallon of water labeled "infant water." Read the ingredients... I'll save you the trip, its fluorinated.

Toothpaste is really bad too.

Agreed. It's apparently noneffective in strengthening enamel/preventing cavities in newborns, too. Like has been said in other fluoride threads, it's a TOPICAL treatment, not for ingesting or injecting.

This review just aggregated a bunch of studies, and they concluded:

The authors also found only two studies since 1975 that looked at the effectiveness of reducing cavities in baby teeth, and found fluoridation to have no statistically significant impact here, either.

The scientists also found “insufficient evidence” that fluoridation reduces tooth decay in adults (children excluded).

They only found seven worthy studies from prior to 1975. This makes me think that they just decided on a massive multinational scale based on a few studies that somehow showed positive results.

“I had assumed because of everything I’d heard that water fluoridation reduces cavities but I was completely amazed by the lack of evidence,” he says. “My prior view was completely reversed."

-- Trevor Sheldon, dean of Hull York Medical School, which performed a similar review in 2000. s

Thankfully the word seems to be getting out, and people will begin to realize that the risk is far greater than the reward. Although we'll probably never hear an admission that fluoride was added for its neurotoxic effects rather than its supposed cavity preventative effects.

I've always heard the narrative that fluoride was an industrial waste product that a few companies managed to market into some sort of snake oil for peddling to their local governments. Not sure how true the story is, but it seems highly believable to me.

I've read that it was an idea to get rid of excess fly ash. Maybe even sell it, as it would be worthless otherwise.
