My point is, the man claimed to have built these tunnels alone, which is an impossible feat for one 50 year old man. They were constructed "to code" and were very deep, reaching the bedrock in at least one place.
If this guy was lying, which I'm positive he was, who knows how many people were implicated in this, how much it cost, and how far it truly stretched. They used a "boring" scientist who worked at the Smithsonian as the scapegoat so the story wouldn't attract as much attention.
These people are potentially making hundreds of millions of dollars doing this. They could surely install a simple rail system once a secret entrance is established. I dont have the answers, just ideas to guide others

The tunnels were nearly 30 ft deep though. Very possible to go under the creek

It is super weird! I just am having a hard time imagining it going any further than the park because of the gorge.

also having a hard time imagining someone trying to drag a child through that tunnel if it's 3 + miles long.
