Another oddity is Google Books. A search there for DC's venerable Thai Room had only one true result. Clicking through to read the book excerpt, I got a 404 error, page not found. Google 404's itself!

Clicking on the author yielded all his books at Google. From there Google had enabled a preview of that same book, but only the first couple chapters. The Thai Room was not part of the excerpt.

In reference to Thai Room, here's a foodie post at a blog from someone claiming to be from the neighborhood:

"...the Thai Room isn’t there anymore, but I love that Comet kept its sign up on the back of the building (above the secret neighborhood entrance I took the Bitches through)."

Secret neighborhood entrance is an oddity, no?

Since time immemorial, secret entrances have been employed to enable trysts.

I'll be digging throughout the day, but to start, here is an article from 1999 where Susan Alefantis mentions working on a house in Nantucket: http://docdro.id/bYIO9eM

"Alefantis (Αλεφαντής) is a Greek surname. Media in Greece have also identified him as Greek-American. Please stop with the anagram and French etymology distractions. Common US pronunciation puts the accent on the antepenult (AleFANtis) whereas the original Greek, on penult (AlefanTIS)."

I created a thread on this that was deleted for "concern trolling", lol. Such mod abuse.

Upvoting yours.

Thank you @swampfox! This is what I was hoping for. Question 1 is my biggest curiosity too. I have the same question about how the Podesta brothers rose from such modest beginnings to their positions of influence.

I know I found an Alefantis involved with worldwide vaccines.
