It is the upper echelons of the agency, epitomized by the pompous and smug James Comey, where the problem lies. Catching bad guys is no longer enough for them. Today, they view themselves as the self-appointed guardians of the American way. Comey’s title of his book- A Higher Loyalty- says it all: they answer only to God Almighty. They now seem determined to intervene whenever and wherever they see a threat to “democracy” as they define “democracy.” This self-righteousness has led the FBI to pursue the Russiagate and Spygate saga from 2016 that resonates to this day.
What God are they worshiping that would lead them to this non-sense?
My old company was a MSP for IT for tons of wealth management and asset management companies. They would get scammed for hundreds of thousands or in a few cases millions from direct fraud with people getting their cell phones spoofed, or emails hijacked thru social engineering.
We would contact the FBI for these cases, and in the 7-10 or so that we send to them, the FBI NEVER recovered the money and never caught the people doing it. They are useless.

The FBI were originally unarmed Lawyers and Accountants and could not make arrests until the Kansas City "Massacre" happened. FBI agents borrowed guns from the local Kansas City PD to escort the infamous bank robber Frank Nash when a group of armed men outflanked the agents to demand they release Nash. They will just throw a few of the most outrageous and obvious FBI criminals under the bus and then keep the rest and roll it all into an even more secretive branch of DHS.
