ok dudes
its time
a while back i made a post outlining my new ar project
today im gonna talk about the work on the receiver
so this is an 80 percent lower in the white made by cerro forge out of 7075 t6 aluminum
to mill it i bought the easy jig 2 from 80 percent and
i also bought their tool set for it and the hand drill stabilizers
i used a basic hand drill from harbor freight
and the router was a brand new dewalt dwp611
the first thing i did was put on my sweet engravings
i printed labels and stick them on
then painted over with nail polish
the nail polish prevents electrical contact
then i carve out the design
honestly the label made things harder and eventually i freehanded it
then you take a phone charger and cut the end off
split the wires and label positive and negative
attach little paper clip ends and cover with tape
then attach the positive end to the receiver and the negative end to a cotton swab dipped in salty vinegar
the electricity eats away at whatever is exposed
its slow but steady
clean lines are crucial to a good final product
my end results looked ok
then we mill
i dont have a vice so i used a couple loaded 5.56 ammo cans lol
it worked well
just follow the instructions on the site
they have videos too
a couple things ill add
first
i didnt go full hashmarks
or even half hashmarks
i did like third or quarter hashmarks
this gun will last forever
enjoy the process and take your time
feeling the smooth cutting without any chattering was very rewarding
one other tip
there comes a point where you need to put a screw back into this hole
this screw is supposed to go in there
it was filled with shavings tho so put some painters tape over the hole to save yourself some trouble cleaning
overall it went very well
my block slipped on the cans at one point and i nicked the sides
and altho i was very methodical there was a little roughness on the sides
i sanded a little afterwards with paper and dremel
i also had to do minor fitting to the rear hole where the upper is supposed to drop into
i think the front pin hole was slightly too forward
anyway thats the single hardest part requiring the most work
everything after this is a breeze lol
ive decided to completely forgo any anodizing or dye
im going to paint it so meh to coloring it black
as for strength
the 7075 t6 aluminum im using is stronger than the original 6061
meanwhile nowadays they make these things out of polymer
so im thinking its plenty strong as is and i can save time by skipping it
to assemble the parts i followed the series by imminent threat solutions
the only special tool i used was the castle nut wrench
had zero problems even tho my baby was attacking me throughout lol
well thats enough for today
ill make posts about other parts later

I just finished a V-seven 300BLK 8.5" build. It weighs 4.7 lbs unloaded.
Your post reminded me of the the guy that posted the youtube video of finishing a AR15 lower in his kitchen with a drill.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
ooooh i was meaning to weigh mine
need to find my good scale
300 blk is a great caliber for short barrels
whatcha gonna do with it

Judges, preferably, but I'm not picky.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
something that compact is very easy to take places

Like a courthouse.

except for the metal detectors

Carbon fiber barrel. Polymer everything. Caseless ammo with polymer rounds. Israeli armory has loads of these.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
where can i buy polymer bullets
and do you have links to penetration testing
