Just had my own "Eye opening" experience with Deus Ex. There is a bulletin near the beginning of the game talking about a French group starting a "Meme war". This game was made in 2000 (gaming)

I think the term "meme" came into popular usage in about 2006, especially with internet culture.
Were the French onto something, given this games many references to real life conspiracies and real life happenings? Or is this just writing?

Meme is any self replicating idea. It's just become more commonly used because of how quickly and widely things spread via the Internet. It's been a word for a long time.

So because George was a name for a long time it wouldn't be weird to you if a book from 1940 had a George W bush in it? Meme Wars is a peculiar term
